Week Three Thoughts.

Written Saturday September 11th at 12:00 AM

Berkley: The Bears looked dominant on Friday night beating Royal Oak 49-9 in the Ravens nest. Berkley put up 42 points in the first half. They have found an identity since the loss to Bloomfield Hills two weeks ago. The Bears will travel to Ferndale next week.

Ferndale: The Eagles are in trouble after losing 35-12 on Friday night falling to 0-3 on the season. Ferndale has some serious concerns defensively which is affecting them as we speak. The Eagles host Berkley next week.

Farmington: The Falcons are getting better despite falling to 0-3. They had a heartbreaking 36-35 overtime loss to Troy Athens on their home field on Friday night. Farmington has to address their defense but they are slowly putting things together a little bit.

Troy Athens: The Red Hawks pulled off a stunner in Farmington on Friday night by beating the Falcons 36-35 in overtime. They are 3-0 for the first time since 2000. Troy Athens has Royal Oak next week.

Troy: The Colts are rolling right now. They beat Ferndale 35-12 on Friday night at home to go to 3-0. Troy will be tested when they head to Farmington next week.

Avondale: The Yellow Jackets put up 52 points on Friday night at Dick Bye field against Pontiac in a 52-20 win. Avondale needed an offensive performance like this against the Phoenix. The Yellow Jackets will be tested next week when they play Bloomfield Hills.

Bloomfield Hills: The Blackhawks are rolling right now. They beat Waterford Kettering 42-20 on Friday night. Bloomfield Hills has a big test looming when they play Avondale next week.

Pontiac: The Phoenix are getting better despite falling to 0-3 but they scored 20 points which was the most points since 2018 when they beat Detroit Consortium 28-8. Pontiac even though lost 52-20 on Friday night to Avondale. I really feel they are getting better. They have something going forward and they have Stockbridge next week.

Royal Oak: The honeymoon is really over for the Ravens after giving up 42 first half points in a stunning 49-9 blowout over Berkley. Royal Oak has Troy Athens looming next week.

Adams: The Highlanders had to survive on Friday night against a very good Oak Park team despite their record. Adams won 10-6 on Friday night but their defense was solid all night. The Highlanders have balance. They have a huge game with Rochester looming next week.

North Farmington: The Raiders made a statement on Friday night at home against Groves shutting them out 49-0 at Ron Holland Field. North Farmington keeps moving a long and they have a tough game looming at Knight Valley next week against Oak Park.

Groves: The Falcons struggles continue after falling 49-0 to North Farmington on Friday night at Ron Holland Field. Groves is in a ton of trouble right now. They have Seaholm on the road next week.

Oak Park: The Knights have played much better despite falling 10-6 to Adams and falling to 0-3. Oak Park and Oxford are probably the best 0-3 teams in the state right now. They will be tested against North Farmington next week.

Rochester: The Falcons picked up a much needed victory on Friday night in their USA uniforms by beating Seaholm 41-13. Rochester has a monster game looming with Adams next week.

Seaholm: The Maples had a ton of struggles with Rochester on Friday night. They fell 41-13 to Rochester sending their record to 0-3 on the season. Seaholm hosts Groves next week in a battle of winless teams.

West Bloomfield: The Lakers had to earn it on Friday night by beating a very good Oxford team 41-31 on Friday night. West Bloomfield is very young defensively. They need to address this and fast. They have Stoney Creek next week.

Clarkston: Clarkston just keeps on rolling and the Wolves keep getting better each week. The Wolves earned a 34-13 win over Stoney Creek on Friday night. They are rolling and got Southfield Arts and Tech next week.

Lake Orion: The Dragons have allowed 84 points in two weeks which is not a good sign including allowing 40 points in a 40-21 loss to Southfield Arts and Tech. Lake Orion needs to figure things out and fast. They have Oxford looming next week.

Southfield Arts and Tech: The Warriors are improving each week which included a 40-21 win over Lake Orion on Friday night. The defense is still a question mark though for them. Southfield Arts and Tech has Clarkston looming next week.

Oxford: It was a morale victory for the Wildcats on Friday night despite falling 41-31 to West Bloomfield. Oxford is starting to learn some things which is a good sign going forward. They have Lake Orion looming next week.

Stoney Creek: The Cougars had a tough loss to Clarkston 34-13 on Friday night. I think Stoney Creek will be fine though going forward. They have West Bloomfield next week.

Harper Woods: It was a struggle for the Pioneers on Friday night as Harper Woods fell 28-14 to Orchard Lake St. Marys. They have Pontiac Notre Dame Prep looming next week.

I do the clock for volleyball in the fall along with girls basketball in the winter and announce some boys basketball games as well. In the spring I coach shot-put at Scripps Middle School, in my fifth season coaching. I run the shot-put for high school meets. I played Special Olympics Basketball, I've won three gold medals for them. I host "Between Taorminas" which is on ONTV along with a podcast called "OAA Now". In other various things outside of Lake Orion, I love to jet ski over Saginaw Bay. Saginaw Bay is basically my life.
