Week Four Thoughts.

Written Friday September 17th at 11:50 PM

Berkley: The Bears saw their game with Ferndale get cancelled on Friday night due to COVID-19 concerns. It is unknown that if Berkley found an opponent for week four and if they did this will be updated for sure. The Bears have been rolling as of late but this was something that they could not control. They have a big one looming at Hurley Field with Troy Athens next week.

Ferndale: The Eagles cancelled their game with Berkley on Friday night due to COVID-19 concerns within the football program. It is unknown if Ferndale can play next week against Avondale but they are dealing with an outbreak within the program which is not a good sign going forward.

Farmington: The Falcons are struggling right now which it showed in their 17-7 home loss to Troy on Friday night. It looks like the offense is an issue for Coach Jason Albrecht and the Falcons right now. It might be time to change something up and quick. They have Bloomfield Hills looming next week.

Troy Athens: The Red Hawks are 4-0 for the first time since 1996. Troy Athens is clicking on all cylinders after winning two tough road games including a 43-35 win over Royal Oak on Friday night. The Red Hawks have a big one looming next week when Coach Billy Keenest makes his return to Berkley to play the Bears.

Troy: The Colts are 4-0 for the first time since 1999 after a 17-7 victory over Farmington on Friday night. Troy is winning in different ways which is a good sign for a good football team. They have Dearborn Edsel Ford looming next week.

Avondale: The Yellow Jackets took a huge step back on Friday night falling 38-6 at Dick Bye Field to Bloomfield Hills. They are still trying to find an identity offensively despite not having Jake Herzog whom is out with a knee injury. Avondale has Ferndale looming next week.

Bloomfield Hills: The Blackhawks are rolling as we speak. They beat Avondale 38-6 on Friday night at Dick Bye Field. Bloomfield Hills is getting a ton of different contributions which is a good sign. They have Farmington looming next week.

Pontiac: The Phoenix are impressing me offensively each week. They fell 68-40 to Stockbridge on Friday night but they are competing at a high level and getting better each day. Daveon Hall was very impressive for Pontiac in his first start at quarterback. He was 12 for 25 for 325 yards and five touchdowns and had 150 rushing yards in the loss. The Phoenix are getting better as mentioned which is a great sign going forward. The wins will come for sure for this program. They have Royal Oak next week.

Royal Oak: The Ravens competed in their homecoming matchup with Troy Athens but it wasn’t meant to be in their 43-35 loss to the Red Hawks on Friday night. Royal Oak is getting better especially with the play of Mekhi Jenkins and Hudson Siddle. The defense is still an issue though which they need to address. They have Pontiac looming next week.

Adams: The Highlanders mastery of Rochester continues. They beat Rochester 49-10 on Friday night. Adams has beaten Rochester 26 straight times dating back to 1996. They have Seaholm looming next week.

North Farmington: The Raiders picked up a really tough loss on Friday night to Oak Park 30-24. I was shocked that North Farmington’s defense had trouble with the Knights speed all night. They led 17-0 at one point. The Raiders should be fine though so if I’m Coach Jon Herstein they will be fine. They have Rochester next week.

Groves: The Falcons picked up their first win of the season on Friday night by beating their arch rival Seaholm 21-14 in the Maple Forest. Jaden Magnum came back in this game and played well. Groves will return home next week when they play Oak Park.

Oak Park: The Knights picked up a huge statement by getting their first win of the season. They came back from 17-0 down to beat North Farmington 30-24 on Friday night in Knight Valley. It’s a huge confidence booster for Coach Greg Carter and company. They have Groves looming next week.

Rochester: The Falcons can’t seem to figure out their city rivals as of late. Their last three losses including Friday night’s 49-10 loss to Adams was to city schools. They fell to Stoney Creek and Adams in the last two years. Rochester has a tough matchup looming next week with North Farmington.

Seaholm: The Maples had a heartbreaking loss in the Maple Forest to arch rival Groves 21-14 on Friday night. Seaholm is getting better which is a good sign going forward. They have a really tough matchup looming with Adams next week.

West Bloomfield: The Lakers are putting things together after a 24-10 win over Stoney Creek in the Swamp on Friday night. Dillion Tatum had 17 carries for 254 yards and two scores against a solid Cougars defense. West Bloomfield is starting to put things together which is a good sign going forward. They have Lake Orion looming next week.

Clarkston: The Wolves are clicking on all cylinders. It showed in their 56-27 win over Southfield Arts and Tech on Friday night. Clarkston should be fine going forward. They have Oxford looming next week.

Lake Orion: I was sick to my stomach watching this game unfold on Friday night. The Dragons have some soul searching to do after allowing 51 points to your arch rival and 135 in three straight weeks. Lake Orion is in a ton of trouble and they are running out of time to turn this thing around. They have West Bloomfield looming next week.

Southfield Arts and Tech: The Warriors went back to earth after having two straight wins with a 56-27 loss to Clarkston on Friday night. I think Southfield Arts and Tech will be fine going forward. They have Stoney Creek looming next week.

Oxford: The Wildcats are clearly getting better. It showed in a stunning 51-27 victory at Lake Orion on Friday night. Brady Carpenter had four touchdown passes in the game while Sal Valcaro was also dominant as well. Oxford has Clarkston for their homecoming next week.

Stoney Creek: The Cougars suffered their second straight loss falling 24-10 to West Bloomfield on Friday night in the Swamp. Stoney Creek is learning what life is in the Red. I think they will be fine despite the struggles. They have Southfield Arts and Tech looming next week.

Harper Woods: The Pioneers earned a huge 38-30 win over Pontiac Notre Dame Prep on Friday night. Harper Woods is now 3-1 on the season which is a great sign when they enter the OAA next season. They have Birmingham Detroit Country Day next week.
