Boys Soccer District Matchups.

Written Sunday October 3rd at 11:40 AM

Here are the matchups that feature OAA teams for districts.

Region 3, District 9 at West Bloomfield

1. Livonia Stevenson

2. GROVES

A. SEAHOLM

B. BLOOMFIELD HILLS

C. FARMINGTON

D. NORTH FARMINGTON

E. WEST BLOOMFIELD

GROVES vs. FARMINGTON

BLOOMFIELD HILLS vs. NORTH FARMINGTON

SEAHOLM vs. WEST BLOOMFIELD

SEAHOLM/WEST BLOOMFIELD vs. Livonia Stevenson

FAVORITE: Livonia Stevenson

NEXT: North Farmington

DARKHORSE: Groves

TEAM THAT NEEDS TO BE ON UPSET ALERT: North Farmington

THOUGHTS: This really doesn’t look as strong of a district as it is on paper. Livonia Stevenson is the early favorite to come out of this district. Seaholm and West Bloomfield should be a very interesting matchup. On the other side Groves and North Farmington could meet in the district semifinals pending if they get by their respective first round matchups. The Raiders might be the best of the OAA to give the Spartans problems. They could meet in the district finals but right now Livonia Stevenson is the favorite as mentioned in the Swamp.

Region 3, District 12 at Lake Orion

1. CLARKSTON

2. OXFORD

A. Davison

B. Flushing

C. Grand Blanc

D. LAKE ORION

E. Lapeer

OXFORD vs. Grand Blanc

Flushing vs. LAKE ORION

Davison vs. Lapeer

Davison/Lapeer vs. CLARKSTON

FAVORITE: Clarkston

NEXT: Grand Blanc

DARKHORSE: Oxford, Lake Orion

TEAM THAT NEEDS TO BE ON UPSET ALERT: Oxford

THOUGHTS: This is shaping up to be a very interesting district at Lake Orion with the proven programs that are in this district. Clarkston is the early favorite and for good reason. There will however be some challengers with Grand Blanc, Lake Orion, and Oxford. The Bobcats/Wildcats matchup is very interesting. The Wolves have a great path to get to the district finals. The winner of Grand Blanc and Oxford will likely see Lake Orion on their home field. It should be a very interesting district as mentioned.

Region 4, District 13 at Sterling Heights Stevenson

1. STONEY CREEK

2. ROCHESTER

A. ADAMS

B. Romeo

C. Sterling Heights Stevenson

D. Utica

E. Utica Eisenhower

F. Utica Ford II

ROCHESTER vs. Romeo

ADAMS vs. Utica Eisenhower

Utica Ford II vs. Utica

STONEY CREEK vs. Sterling Heights Stevenson

FAVORITE: Stoney Creek

NEXT: Rochester

DARKHORSE: Utica Eisenhower

TEAM THAT NEEDS TO BE ON UPSET ALERT: Utica Eisenhower

THOUGHTS: This is a tough district to figure out at Runkel Field. It’s a virtual home game for Sterling Heights Stevenson and Utica Ford II (both play at Runkel Field.) Stoney Creek looks to be the early favorite but there are some worthy challengers in Rochester, Adams, Utica Eisenhower, Romeo, and Utica. The Falcons/Bulldogs matchup is very interesting to watch as is the Highlanders and Eagles. The Cougars don’t have an easy matchup with the Titans or does the Chieftains with the Falcons being road games for Stoney Creek and Utica. This should be shaping up to be a very interesting district to watch.

Region 4, District 14 at Troy

1. BERKLEY

2. TROY

A. Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit

B. OAK PARK

C. ROYAL OAK

D. TROY ATHENS

E. Warren Mott

TROY vs. ROYAL OAK

OAK PARK vs. TROY ATHENS

Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit vs. Warren Mott

Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit/Warren Mott vs. BERKLEY

FAVORITE: Berkley

NEXT: Troy

DARKHORSE: Troy Athens, Royal Oak

TEAM THAT NEEDS TO BE ON UPSET ALERT: Troy

THOUGHTS: This is the most intriguing district in the State when it comes to soccer. You have four State ranked teams in this district in Berkley, Troy, Troy Athens, and Royal Oak. The Bears have the best odds to get to the district finals but could see a solid Cubs team in the district semifinals while the Colts, Red Hawks, and Ravens have to go through each other. Troy and Royal Oak is going to be a very interesting game to say the least. That winner will likely see Troy Athens. There will be a lot of great soccer being played in this district. It stinks that only one of these teams will come out of this district and move onto the regionals.

Region 6, District 24 at Brandon

1. Fenton

2. Lake Fenton

A. Goodrich

B. Holly

C. Linden

D. Brandon

E. PONTIAC

Lake Fenton vs. Linden

Holly vs. Brandon

Goodrich vs. PONTIAC

Goodrich/PONTIAC vs. Fenton

FAVORITE: Fenton

NEXT: Lake Fenton

DARKHORSE: Pontiac

TEAM THAT NEEDS TO BE ON UPSET ALERT: Fenton

THOUGHTS: This is shaping up to be a very interesting district in Ortonville. Fenton looks like the early favorite in the district while Lake Fenton has had a strong season on the other side of the draw. If it were to hold true Brandon should beat Holly and play Lake Fenton which could be an upset trap for Lake Fenton in the district semifinals. Goodrich and Pontiac should be a very interesting matchup with the winner seeing the Tigers. The district finals looks to be a battle of Fenton between Lake Fenton and Fenton but there are proven challengers in Goodrich, Brandon, and Pontiac. They could spoil some team’s seasons.

Region 7, District 25 at Ferndale

1. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood

2. Birmingham Brother Rice

A. AVONDALE

B. FERNDALE

C. Madison Heights Lamphere

D. Orchard Lake St. Marys

E. Warren Fitzgerald

Birmingham Brother Rice vs. Madison Heights Lamphere

FERNDALE vs. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s

AVONDALE vs. Warren Fitzgerald

AVONDALE/Warren Fitzgearld vs. Cranbrook Kingswood

FAVORITE: Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood

NEXT: Orchard Lake St. Marys

DARKHORSE: Ferndale

TEAM THAT NEEDS TO BE ON UPSET ALERT: Birmingham Brother Rice

THOUGHTS: This is shaping up to be a very interesting district at Ferndale with the teams that are in here. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood looks to be the favorite in the district and should get into the district finals with ease. The other side of the bracket is very intriguing with Birmingham Brother Rice, Ferndale, and Orchard Lake St. Marys. The Eagles vs Eaglets matchup should be very interesting. Don’t be surprised if Madison Heights Lamphere upsets Birmingham Brother Rice. They are a team that needs to be on upset alert. It should be very interesting who comes out of that district and plays the Cranes in the next round.
