Possible District Thoughts and Ideas.

We know the MHSAA will release their Volleyball districts later this month and they also include the Basketball districts as well. Now these aren't the official districts they will be released later this month as mentioned. Once the districts come out I will write a different column on how the districts will go and also watch OAA Now for a District Preview once they come out. Anyway here are my thoughts of how the districts could look like.

Class A.

District One

ORION
OXFORD
CLARKSTON
Waterford Kettering
Waterford Mott

Projected Location: Volleyball/Girls Basketball @ Clarkston: Boys Basketball @ Orion

WHY I SEE THIS DISTRICT POSSIBLE: There are no changes in this district with the exception that Pontiac would be heading into Class B. I thought hard about Lapeer coming into this district but with them close to Davison, I left it as is. Romeo was another team that I thought about bringing in but if they were to do that then Clarkston would have to go northwest toward the Genesee County area.

District Two

STONEY CREEK
ADAMS
ROCHESTER
Utica
Utica Eisenhower
Romeo

Projected Location: Volleyball/Girls Basketball @ Stoney Creek: Boys Basketball @ Utica

WHY I SEE THIS DISTRICT POSSIBLE: There is no change with the exception of bringing in Romeo into this district. I thought about leaving this district at five teams but Romeo with their geographic location makes sense here. Romeo is in a district that has Macomb Dakota, Port Huron, and Port Huron Northern in there, makes no sense.

District Three

BLOOMFIELD HILLS
GROVES
SEAHOLM
Birmingham Marian/Birmingham Brother Rice
AVONDALE

Projected Location: Volleyball/Girls Basketball @ Bloomfield Hills: Boys Basketball @ Avondale

WHY I SEE THIS DISTRICT POSSIBLE: Avondale looks like they are the outlier in this district but with only five teams, it would make sense to leave them in this district. These teams are close to each other and could make for a great district if the MHSAA goes this route.

District Four

TROY
TROY ATHENS
ROYAL OAK
Warren Cousino
Warren Mott
Warren De LaSalle/Warren Regina

Projected Location: Volleyball/Girls Basketball @ Warren Cousino: @ Boys Basketball @ Troy Athens

WHY I SEE THIS DISTRICT POSSIBLE: I thought about this district long and hard and thought you got to bring Troy and Troy Athens back together in a district. I took Sterling Heights out and put them with Chippewa Valley, Utica Ford, and Sterling Heights Stevenson. The Colts would be favored in Volleyball if they were put in this district setup.

District Five

FARMINGTON
HARRISON
NORTH FARMINGTON
WEST BLOOMFIELD
Farmington Hills Mercy/Orchard Lake St. Marys

Projected Location: Volleyball/Girls Basketball @ West Bloomfield: Boys Basketball @ North Farmington

WHY I SEE THIS DISTRICT POSSIBLE: I don’t see really any changes in this district now the league could send West Bloomfield back west to Milford, Lakeland, and the Walled Lake’s but I don’t see that happening. It will be interesting to see what happens with this district.

District Six

SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH
OAK PARK
HAZEL PARK
BERKLEY
Warren Fitzgerald
Detroit Renaissance

Projected Location: Volleyball/Girls Basketball @ Southfield Arts and Tech: Boys Basketball @ Detroit Renaissance

WHY I SEE THIS DISTRICT POSSIBLE: Hazel Park reenters Class A from Class B so this district pretty much makes sense now wondering if the MHSAA would take Detroit Renaissance out of this district but likely they won’t do that. I can see this being a district once the parings come out.

Class B.

District Seven

FERNDALE
Ferndale University
Detroit Mumford
Detroit Henry Ford for Creative Studies
Detroit University Prep
Detroit Collegiate Prep of Northwestern

Projected Location: Volleyball/Girls Basketball @ Detroit Mumford: Boys Basketball @ Ferndale

With Hazel Park moving to Class A I thought about moving a team up here to make it a six-team district and needed a team to add so it would be Detroit Collegiate Prep of Northwestern. It would be interesting if the MHSAA went this route and they very well could with this route.

District Eight

PONTIAC
Pontiac Notre Dame Prep
Birmingham Detroit Country Day
Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood
Clinton Township Clintondale
Clawson
Madison Heights Lamphere
Madison Heights Madison

Projected Location: Volleyball/Girls Basketball @ Clawson: Boys Basketball @ Birmingham Detroit Country Day

With Pontiac moving into Class B, the Phoenix need a district, too bad it will be with Pontiac Notre Dame Prep and Birmingham Detroit Country Day. It will be a tough go for Pontiac in this district if the MHSAA puts them here.

I have highest function of autism (Asperger Syndrome.) I'm a huge Dallas Stars fan. I like to play and watch football, especially when the Dragons play on Friday nights. I am a 2006 alum and used to play football for the Dragons. I ran track, I ran the 100, 200, 400 meter dashes along with shot-put and discus. During my time in Orion I was a manager for Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team. I'm the volleyball, girls basketball, and football announcer for the team and do the book on the road for girls basketball. I do the clock for volleyball in the fall along with girls basketball in the winter and announce some boys basketball games as well. In the spring I coach shot-put at Scripps Middle School, in my fifth season coaching. I run the shot-put for high school meets. I played Special Olympics Basketball, I've won three gold medals for them. I host "Between Taorminas" which is on ONTV along with a podcast called "OAA Now". In other various things outside of Lake Orion, I love to jet ski over Saginaw Bay. Saginaw Bay is basically my life. I'm a trained weather spotter for the National Weather Service for Oakland and Huron counties.
