Well that didn’t take long, Shay Lewis is back in the game.
Lewis was rehired as the Girls Varsity Basketball Coach at
Rochester Adams succeeding Jackie Steinacker. She is Adams fourth coach in six seasons.
Steinacker was Lewis’s assistant led Adams to a district
crown last season.
Lewis was at Oakland University as the Director of
Operations for the Women’s Basketball team. She then stepped down after the
season making a return to Adams a real possibility.
She also worked for a group called Detroit Pal as well.
Lewis played under legendary coach Fran Scislowicz and when Scislowicz
stepped down from coaching, Lewis took over the team in 2013.
Lewis takes over a team that finished 8-15 and was last
place in the Red but she has two key players returning in MaKayla Smith and
Grace Van Pelt. Lewis has had the luxury to have players like Amber Jamison,
Raiven Owusu, Taylor Smith, Ryian Owusu, Maggie Rogers, and Hannah Simard that
she coached in the past.
Thoughts
This is an interesting that Lewis is back in the game but
this is a different Highlanders team than she is accustomed too. She will have
talent back with Smith and Van Pelt but her team will be a bit inexperienced this
upcoming season.
It is unknown if Steinacker returns to Adams as an assistant, she and Lewis are close friends.
The schedule is difficult as well when you have to play
Farmington Hills Mercy to open up the season along with Utica Eisenhower and
that’s not league play yet in which they are in the Red in which they will have
to deal with Bloomfield Hills, Stoney Creek, Southfield Arts and Tech, North
Farmington, Clarkston, and Orion. Adams is in a tough district at Stoney
Creek with the Cougars, Utica Eisenhower, Rochester, and Romeo.
Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing
story.
