Baseball/Softball Quarterfinal Previews.

Written Saturday June 10th at 6:10 PM

The last week of the 2016-2017 school year is here and Baseball and Softball are left to play around the league. Here are my projections and early insight heading into Tuesday's State Quarterfinal matchups.

Softball.

The Clarkston Wolves are back in the State Quarterfinals.

The Wolves won their regional by a combined score of 18-3 and will now face Walled Lake Northern at Wayne State on Tuesday.

Clarkston took out Birmingham Seaholm 14-0 in the regional semifinal and Utica Eisenhower 4-3 in the regional final.

Walled Lake Northern beat Lakeland 7-0 in the regional final at Novi. The Knights bring a solid offense that was dominant against the Eagles and Northville beating both teams by a combined 18-0.

Both teams bring strong offenses into this game as mentioned but they have good pitching staffs as well. This one will be a good one to watch.

PREDICTION:  It’s the OAA vs the KLAA and these two teams are solid teams. Both teams have strong offenses and solid pitching. I like Clarkston to win this matchup, closer than the experts think. PICK: CLARKSTON.

Baseball.

The Rochester Falcons are back in the State Quarterfinals but it won’t be the rematch with Hartland with whom they lost to last season.

Instead it will be the Falcons that will play Northville at Wayne State in the State Quarterfinal on Tuesday.

The Mustangs eliminated the Eagles from the regional final 6-3. In the regional semifinal, Northville ousted Orchard Lake St. Marys 12-2.

Rochester took out Royal Oak 8-1 in the regional semifinal and then took out Birmingham Brother Rice whom was ranked fifth in the State 10-2 in the regional final behind an eight run seventh inning.

PREDICTION: This is another matchup between the OAA and the KLAA, both teams are very solid. Rochester has a boatload of experience. Northville brings experience as well. In this matchup, I think the Falcons Senior experience gets them to East Lansing. PICK: ROCHESTER.
