Troy has a new Softball Coach.

Written Tuesday August 10th at 8:10 PM

This is a very interesting move.

The Colts named Farmington Girls Basketball Coach Laura Guzman to coach at Troy for their softball program.

She replaces Tom Calnen as he is the new coach at Rochester University. Calnen coached the softball program at Troy for 26 years before stepping down this summer.

Guzman will still coach Girls Basketball at Farmington.

She coached softball at Rochester for nine years. She led the Falcons to three coach of the year awards and three league titles.

"I'm extremely excited to have Coach Guzman lead our program. Her dedication to the sport, the student athletes, and the development of the student-athlete on and off the diamond is what she is all about. She is going to be a great role model for our girls and ambassador of our community" said Troy Athletic Director Shane Hynes.

Thoughts.

This is a very interesting hire. Guzman has been around the OAA a lot whether it was at Rochester, Farmington, and now Troy. She is still coaching girls basketball at Farmington so there is no changes there.

Troy has really struggled as of late in softball. Hynes is trying to get the Colts back to their magic of the early 2000's when they were a powerhouse. He believes that Guzman will be the answer to Troy's fortunes.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

Press Release from Hynes.
