Oak Park has their new Girls Basketball Coach.

Written Wednesday August 4th at 12:00 AM

Oak Park named a new girls basketball coach this past week.

The Knights named Crystal Fulton as their new coach. She replaces legendary coach Peggy Evans Carr whom lead Oak Park to two successful seasons where they were a combined 21-12. Carr went 43-62 in her six years coaching the Knights.

Fulton played for Carr at Inkster where they went 26-2 in her senior season. She was Inkster's defensive player of the year. Fulton played college basketball at Eastern Michigan and also at Adrian College.

Fulton was an assistant under Carr last season at Oak Park. She brings a ton of experience as a player to a program that has had a ton of success recently.

She will have a huge challenge ahead of her. Oak Park went to the district finals last season and held tough against a very good Detroit Renaissance team. The Knights are in the Blue with Harper Woods, Avondale, Farmington, Seaholm, Ferndale, Ferndale University, and Pontiac. They are in a really tough district at Detroit Renaissance which has Detroit Renaissance, Detroit Mumford, Berkley, and Royal Oak.

Thoughts

I really like this hire of Fulton. She played and coached under Carr and is ready to lead the program. Program strength is a concern coming into the season. Fulton has a ton of playing experience which should help in what should a pretty young basketball program this season. If she can continue with what Carr left off then Oak Park could be in the mix for the Blue this season.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.
