Week Ten Scores
WEST BLOOMFIELD 52, Romeo 14.
OAK PARK 30, Livonia Churchill 23.
Traverse City Central 50, NORTH FARMINGTON 22.
West Bloomfield played a complete game on Saturday afternoon in the Swamp. They were dominant on both sides of the football in a 52-14 blowout over Romeo. Donovan Edwards had four touchdowns in the game for the Lakers. West Bloomfield was impressive on all fronts against a very good Bulldogs defense. The question for the Lakers is will Donovan Edwards and Maxwell Hairston play next week at Belleville but according to the Detroit Free Press writer Mick McCabe it looks like Edwards will play against the Tigers but it's unknown what will happen with Hairston. Belleville won 43-16 over Detroit Cass Tech on their home field on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers have won two straight postseason games against West Bloomfield on their home field. They feature one of the best quarterbacks in the state in Christian Dhue-Reid. It’s going to be very interesting how this game plays out next week.
Oak Park did it again against incredible odds. They escaped with a shocking 30-23 victory over Livonia Churchill on Saturday afternoon going to 500 on the season at 5-5 earning their first regional title in school history. There was some questionable play calling on the Chargers part especially letting them get a safety and not just punting the football up 23-20. James Burnley was absolutely incredible for the Knights including the winning 40 yard passing score to Amari Harris and a defensive stand. Burnley was responsible for four touchdowns including three from the air and one on the ground. The Oak Park defense was very good despite allowing 23 points. The Knights road tour continues next week when they head to Wayne State to battle Warren DeLaSalle whom were impressive in blowing out Warren Mott 45-3. The question for Oak Park will be is will they have Davion Primm and Jaylen Mines for that game. It should be a very interesting game next week.
It was going to be tough for North Farmington on Saturday afternoon in Traverse City with the travel and going up against a very good football team in the Trojans. Turnovers were the story as they had five turnovers in a 50-22 loss to Traverse City Central earning them their first regional title since 1988. The Trojans also wore down North Farmington’s depth as the Raiders dressed 28 players. Austin Bills, Josh Burnham, and Carson Bourdo were the difference makers especially on the defensive side of the football. They pressured Jacob Bousamra into throwing four interceptions and a fumble for a score which changed the whole game giving Traverse City Central an 18-16 lead in the middle of the third quarter. The Raiders led 10-6 at halftime behind the play of running back Justin Whitehorn however after that the Trojans outscored North Farmington 44-12 in the second half. Whitehorn was dominant in the first half for the Raiders (finished with 26 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown) but with North Farmington trailing they had to throw the football. He had 16 yards in the second half. Bousamra was 17 for 30 for 234 yards with two passing touchdowns, one to Aaron Rice for 15 yards and the other to Dez Blanch from 32 yards. Justin Bryant had two interceptions. It’s going to be a very interesting offseason for Coach Jon Herstein and the Raiders going forward next season.
