Clarkston and Macomb Dakota is Almost Here.
Clarkston won their fourth straight district title in blowout fashion. The Wolves destroyed Waterford Kettering 65-7 in the district final on Friday
night at Orion. The Captains advanced to the district final thanks to Pontiac's forfeit. Clarkston held Waterford Kettering to just two points in the second
half behind 22 points from Foster Loyer and 16 from Dylan Alderson. The Wolves
are on a collision course with Macomb Dakota which they should
have no problem with Macomb L’Anse Creuse North in the district final on
Saturday. It will be a star-studded matchup on Monday at Grand Blanc.
Stoney Creek wins first district title.
The battle inside was the difference in a district final
that took place at two different venues because Utica had a power outage thanks
to Wednesday’s windstorm. It was Stoney Creek on its home floor taking home
their first district title ever by beating Rochester 42-28 on Friday night. The
Cougars were led by Evan Becker. Becker scored 14 points while Nate Davis added 11
points. Rochester is a Junior heavy squad that will return the balk of their
team next season. Stoney Creek will head to Grand Blanc and will meet Linden that is 1-1 against the Blue this season. The Eagles won the Grand Blanc
district that had every team in it's district that had a losing record. The Cougars match up well
with Linden, so expect Stoney Creek to make a run to the regional final.
West Bloomfield beats Orchard Lake St. Mary’s for the
first time since 1956.
The Lakers beat Orchard Lake St. Mary’s for the first time
in 61 years and got their first district title since 2003 by winning 57-43 at
Farmington. West Bloomfield lost a heartbreaker to the Eaglets in double
overtime at Orchard Lake last season. Kevin McAdoo had 23 points to lead the
Lakers who advanced to meet Howell in the regional on Monday at Walled Lake
Northern. West Bloomfield has a great shot to win that regional, they match up
well with the Highlanders and also on the other side of the bracket with Novi
or Walled Lake Western. This could be a special year for the Lakers.
Oak Park bows out.
The Knights were no match for Detroit University-Detroit
Jesuit in the district final on Friday night at Detroit Renaissance. The Cubs destroyed Oak Park
77-47. The Knights are a very young basketball team will have a ton of
experience back next season. I like where coach Bobby Thompson has his program
going, and that is heading in the right direction.
Troy ousts Seaholm, has great shot at regionals.
The Troy Colts won their first district title since 2009 by
outlasting a gutsy Seaholm team 54-43 on Friday night at Bloomfield Hills.
Jason Dietz had 24 points, Leon Ayers had 12 points, and Danny Sully had 10
points for the Colts. The Maples return their two top starters in Brady Flynn
and Cooper Mixon next season so Seaholm will be in good shape. Troy returns to
their arch rival school Troy Athens to play a very good Lakeshore team that is
led by Caleb Bates and Jaylen Dixon. It will also be an interesting coaching match up as well between the Colts Gary Fralick and the Shorians Derrick Walton
Sr. On the other side of the regional is Warren De LaSalle and Chippewa Valley.
I think this regional will be a fun one to keep an eye on.
Hazel Park Rides Bow to regionals.
The Vikings won their first district title since 1965 by
beating Detroit Mumford 80-59 in the district final. Carl Bow had 40 points, eight assists, and 10
rebounds in their victory over the Mustangs on their home floor. David Hearns
and Kristen Layfette combined for 32 points for Hazel Park. The Vikings will
get a very tough test when they take on Detroit Collegiate Prep at Livonia Claranceville
on Monday.
