BIG WIN: Groves: The Falcons are proving doubters
wrong once again this season after winning the Blue last season. There were people including me saying that this team
won’t win the White because of their tough schedule but they very well could win the division outright with a win over Farmington next week. Groves picked up
a big 15-8 win over Adams in Beverly Hills on Friday night clinching a share of the White crown. The Falcons needed
a winning 28 yard touchdown on a reverse to win the game with three minutes
left. Groves will have a tough task in two weeks when they go to Saline to take
on the Hornets but this is a huge win for the Falcons. The Highlanders will
regroup from this loss, they'll be fine.
TOUGH LOSS: Harrison: The Hawks might have saw their
playoff hopes dashed by Oak Park as Harrison fell 14-9 in Knight Valley because
of their offensive troubles. The Hawks sit at 3-4 on the season needing to win
out to maybe get a shot at 5-4 and a playoff berth. This one is a tough one for
Harrison to take because it is likely that the Hawks could miss out altogether.
TEAM THAT NEEDS A HUG: Seaholm: The Maples played their best football of the season on their homecoming on Friday night
against Orion. They had the Dragons on the ropes but a blocked field goal attempt
by Orion forced overtime. In the overtime session, the Dragons offense scored
and got a defensive stop securing a 21-14 escape in Birmingham. Seaholm may be the best
2-5 team in the State and the pistol veer offense can give anyone trouble.
WHAT HAPPENED: Troy: This game is what I called would
be an absolute fashion disaster when looking at both teams’ uniforms, Berkley
was in their road all white look while Troy had new black uniforms as both of
them are on my list for the worst jerseys. The Colts were in control early
against the Bears but Berkley put on a strong second half
comeback that got them a big 28-23 win in Troy on Friday night to spoil the
Colts homecoming. The Bears trailed 17-7 at the half and scored three of it’s
four touchdowns in the second half while limiting Troy to six points. The win
keeps the league hopes alive for the Bears as they go to Bloomfield Hills next
week.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME: West Bloomfield: How can you
explain this? You’re up 21-0 against Clarkston at Clarkston, a team that has not lost at home since 2012 when they lost in the regional final to Rockford. You sit at 3-3 with your playoff hopes on the line and then all of a sudden you allow 42
unanswered points against the Wolves and lose 42-21. The loss by the Lakers sends them to 3-4 on the season and a playoff appearance appears to be out of the cards right now. The win by the Wolves sets up a huge showdown at
Orion next Friday night.
OTHER STATE NEWS:
Well it looks like Waterford Mott’s playoff hopes took a
major hit as the Corsairs were shocked by Walled Lake Central 36-35 on Friday
night in Walled Lake. All the hype of Keith Fields and Daylen Baldwin coming over from Orion and Farmington respectively and the controversy surrounding the program this summer with the illegal gatherings along with the two game regular suspension of coach Chris Fahr has affected this
team and now it has likely cost them a trip to the postseason. Waterford Mott
will play their arch rival Waterford Kettering next week.
Lakeland looked like a playoff team just three weeks ago,
now they are in trouble after a 18-16 loss to Waterford Kettering. The problem
for the Eagles has been consistency and they do not have that. Lakeland has to
play Walled Lake Western next just to keep alive for a playoff spot.
Grand Blanc has had its fair shares of ups and downs. This
week for the Bobcats was a down week as they lost 22-12 to Pinckney. The
Pirates forced four turnovers in the game. To make things better for Pinckney, Grand
Blanc was leading at halftime 12-0 on homecoming and the Bobcats have lost
three straight games since a 4-0 start. Yep coaching remains a hot topic in
Genesee County for Grand Blanc.
Chippewa Valley got a huge win over Macomb Dakota 40-38 taking home the Superintendent trophy for the first time in 13 years. The Big Reds are a very young team that now sits at 4-3 on the season and they could make the playoffs in what was suppose to be a down year for coach Scott Merchant's team. The
Cougars sit at 4-3 on the season and needs to beat Romeo just to get into the
playoffs at Dan Barnabo Field next week. I know it's coach Greg Barr's first season as a head coach but three losses at Macomb Dakota is unacceptable and not normal.
I was surprised that Warren De LaSalle lost 49-35 to University of Detroit Jesuit at Hazel Park on Friday night. It is very odd for a coach Mike Gionnenne team to give up 49 points in a game. I think there was one time that I remember a Gionnenne team giving up more than 49 points. It was when he was at Macomb Dakota that his 2012 team gave up 52 points to Orion. It's surprising that both Gionnenne's current and former team lost on Friday night.

Warren Mott was destroyed at home on Friday by Romeo 31-6.
The Bulldogs sit at 5-2 on the season and have a big one next week with Macomb
Dakota. For the Marauders, they play Utica Eisenhower for a chance to clinch at
least a share of the MAC Red crown.
