OAA Picks Week Eight.

Written Tuesday October 11th at 2:30 PM

SAMMY 71-34
ANT 73-32
KEITH 74-31
SEAN 72-33
DAN 71-34
BURNEY 76-29

1. Groves @ Farmington:

The Falcons have already clinched a share of the White title with their 15-8 win over Adams last week. Farmington got themselves a 40-9 win over North Farmington. This looks to be a mismatch on paper as Groves has the offense, defense, and special teams to make Farmington’s homecoming miserable. The Falcons will blowout another pair of Falcons as they get ready to take on unbeaten Saline next week.

SAMMY PICK: GROVES 63, FARMINGTON 0.
ANT PICK: GROVES 42, FARMINGTON 7.
KEITH PICK: GROVES 42, FARMINGTON 0.
DAN PICK: GROVES 35, FARMINGTON 14.
SEAN PICK: GROVES 42, FARMINGTON 0.
BURNEY PICK: GROVES 32, FARMINGTON 18.

2. Oak Park @ Seaholm:

The Knights have been rolling as of late including beating some powerhouse programs Clarkston, Harrison, and Adams. The Maples might be the best 2-5 team in the State after having Orion on the ropes only to let them out in a 21-14 defeat last week on their homecoming. The pistol veer option of Seaholm will give Oak Park problems. Last year’s game was proof that the Maples could compete and beat the Knights. Oak Park had to score on a hail marry to beat Seaholm 19-14 in Birmingham. The Maples want to make a statement, if I’m the Knights, I’d better be careful.

SAMMY PICK: OAK PARK 20, SEAHOLM 17.
ANT PICK: OAK PARK 28, SEAHOLM 27.
KEITH PICK: OAK PARK 35, SEAHOLM 14.
DAN PICK: OAK PARK 28, SEAHOLM 14.
SEAN PICK: OAK PARK 35, SEAHOLM 7.
BURNEY PICK: OAK PARK 34, SEAHOLM 24.

3. Clarkston @ 6. Orion:

It’s no secret that the Wolves have owned the rivalry as of late with the Dragons going 5-0 since Orion won in 2010. This might be the biggest game since the 2012 season when Clarkston escaped with a 21-14 victory at Orion. The Wolves are leaning on Michael Fleugel, JT King, and Josh Cantu. The Dragons are leaning on a total team effort. Orion comes in with a four-game winning streak while Clarkston bounced back from a 21-0 deficit to beat West Bloomfield 42-21 last week. This is Orion’s homecoming as well but it’s likely the Dragons aren’t paying attention to the homecoming hype but if they are then they will lose. Orion also hasn’t forgotten last season to in which they trailed 35-0 and had a running clock against them, it ended up being 35-14 in that game. Both teams are different this season and this will be interesting to watch.

SAMMY PICK: ORION 21, CLARKSTON 14.
ANT PICK: ORION 24, CLARKSTON 21.
KEITH PICK: CLARKSTON 21, ORION 17.
DAN PICK: CLARKSTON 28, ORION 27.
SEAN PICK: CLARKSTON 35, ORION 21.
BURNEY PICK: ORION 24, CLARKSTON 23.

4. Ferndale @ Royal Oak:

This is perhaps my feel-good stories is the Eagles from Ferndale. The Eagles could clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 2008 if they win this game at Royal Oak. Ferndale put up 51 points, which was the most since 2014 when they put up 58 points, oddly both of them were against Hazel Park. The Eagles defense is the reason why they are in this position as they have only allowed 112 points which is the fewest in the league and offensively they have scored 232 points which is the most in the league as well. The Ravens meanwhile have been one of my major disappointments. They have not played consistent football and it has shown. Royal Oak has not put together any form of consistency and if you want to build a winner, you got to create a culture of winning and they haven’t done that. Ferndale is favored in this game, we’ll see if the Ravens will put up a fight or not.

SAMMY PICK: FERNDALE 42, ROYAL OAK 0.
ANT PICK: FERNDALE 24, ROYAL OAK 21.
KEITH PICK: FERNDALE 35, ROYAL OAK 28.
DAN PICK: FERNDALE 28, ROYAL OAK 20.
SEAN PICK: FERNDALE 28, ROYAL OAK 21.
BURNEY PICK: FERNDALE 25, ROYAL OAK 24.

Stoney Creek @ 5. Adams:

This rivalry is called the Battle of Tienken Road, the Highlanders will look to get back into the playoffs for the first time since 2013. Adams lost a tough one to Groves 15-8 last week thus preventing them to clinch a playoff spot for now. Stoney Creek has struggled this season under first year coach Bob Lantzy as his Cougars were pounded 41-7 last week by Southfield Arts and Tech. Stoney Creek has nothing to lose in this matchup while Adams has everything to lose, if they lose to the Cougars then they would have to go to Clarkston next week for the right to get into the playoffs, I don’t think the Highlanders would want to do that.

SAMMY PICK: ADAMS 28, STONEY CREEK 14.
ANT PICK: ADAMS 27, STONEY CREEK 21.
KEITH PICK: ADAMS 24, STONEY CREEK 10.
DAN PICK: ADAMS 35, STONEY CREEK 14.
SEAN PICK: ADAMS 49, STONEY CREEK 7.
BURNEY PICK: ADAMS 38, STONEY CREEK 22.

8. Berkley @ 7. Bloomfield Hills:

The Blackhawks were tested last week against Pontiac Notre Dame Prep winning 35-31 but I haven’t been impressed with them lately even though they are undefeated. When looking at why they are ranked seven there are several factors, the schedule is the biggest reason, the teams ahead of them have played tougher schedules than Bloomfield Hills. Now you can’t fault the schedule makers here but they haven’t had the greatest of league schedules or non-league schedules until last week at Pontiac. The Blackhawks will get a serious test when the Bears come to town. Berkley though has been shaky lately but have found ways to get big time wins. Bloomfield Hills will be motivated in this game to try to not only win the league title outright but also try to stay undefeated in this game while the Bears want to ruin the Blackhawks perfect season.

SAMMY PICK: BERKLEY 35, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 21.
ANT PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 42, BERKLEY 21.
KEITH PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 28, BERKLEY 17.
DAN PICK: BERKLEY 34, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 28.
SEAN PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 35, BERKLEY 14.
BURNEY PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 31, BERKLEY 27.

9. Southfield Arts and Tech @ T-10. Oxford:

This one is virtually an elimination game between the Wildcats and the Warriors. Oxford has quietly won three straight since the Orion 52-35 disaster three weeks ago by outscoring their three opponents 95-34. Southfield Arts and Tech has won two straight since losing the Orion game 21-14 by outscoring their last two opponents by a combined 74-21 in that stretch. The Warriors have to travel from 10 Mile and Lahser up to Ray Road and the Blue Turf, that’s never easy for a southern Oakland County school to travel up north to the northern most past of Oakland County in Oxford especially with the construction in Orion on M-24 and also I-75. The Wildcats though must control the clock and make sure they keep the Southfield Arts and Tech offense on the sidelines, if not Oxford will be in deep trouble.

SAMMY PICK: OXFORD 28, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 22.
ANT PICK: OXFORD 24, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 20.
KEITH PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 24, OXFORD 20.
DAN PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 21, OXFORD 20.
SEAN PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 28, OXFORD 14.
BURNEY PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 29, OXFORD 28.

T-10. Rochester @ Hazel Park:

The Vikings have been dreading this match up for some strange reason. They even asked to leave the OAA. Hazel Park has been struggling on the football field lately going 3-35 since 2012. The Vikings gave up 51 points last week to Ferndale whom is a smaller school than Hazel Park. Rochester has also been struggling going 2-16 before the season started but since going down to the Blue the Falcons have a chance to make the playoffs but they need this game and also the game at Stoney Creek next week against the Cougars. This matchup against a bigger school has had Hazel Park fearing this matchup but what if they beat Rochester, is it possible??? Nah.

SAMMY PICK: ROCHESTER 49, HAZEL PARK 0.
ANT PICK: ROCHESTER 35, HAZEL PARK 21.
KEITH PICK: ROCHESTER 34, HAZEL PARK 7.
DAN PICK: ROCHESTER 42, HAZEL PARK 14.
SEAN PICK: ROCHESTER 42, HAZEL PARK 13.
BURNEY PICK: ROCHESTER 28, HAZEL PARK 17.

West Bloomfield @ Troy Athens:

The Lakers needed to pass their major hurdle last week if they wanted to get to six wins and qualify for a playoff spot. They were up 21-0 at one point but they allowed 42 points on route to a 42-21 loss to Clarkston likely costing them their trip to the playoffs. West Bloomfield will have to play a Troy Athens squad that is banged up. The Red Hawks did get Joey Stark back but it wasn’t enough last week as they fell 41-13 to Oxford. This looks like it is a mismatch on paper but what will the Lakers mindset be after losing their fourth game?

SAMMY PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 42, TROY ATHENS 0.
ANT PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 37, TROY ATHENS 7.
KEITH PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 34, TROY ATHENS 20.
DAN PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 28, TROY ATHENS 21.
SEAN PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 35, TROY ATHENS 13.
BURNEY PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 30, TROY ATHENS 21.

Harrison @ North Farmington:

The Hawks have suffered three heartbreaking losses to Adams, Oak Park, and Groves by a combined 49-25 score. Harrison’s offense has been a huge problem lately and it has shown in their three losses. It is a long shot that the Hawks could make the playoffs at 5-4 but they can win the Farmington Cup if they get by North Farmington. The Raiders are just awful, undisciplined also as they lost 40-9 to Farmington last week. This one looks like it has rout city all over it.

SAMMY PICK: HARRISON 77, NORTH FARMINGTON 0.
ANT PICK: HARRISON 49, NORTH FARMINGTON 7.
KEITH PICK: HARRISON 35, NORTH FARMINGTON 0.
DAN PICK: HARRISON 35, NORTH FARMINGTON 7.
SEAN PICK: HARRISON 49, NORTH FARMINGTON 0.
BURNEY PICK: HARRISON 27, NORTH FARMINGTON 17,

Pontiac @ Troy:

The Colts suffered a heartbreaking loss losing to Berkley 28-23 last week. Troy has not won a game at home since the 2013 season when they beat Lathrup 27-0. This will be the first meeting since 2013 between the Phoenix and Colts with Troy winning 20-13 in that one. Pontiac and Troy though are in two different worlds. Could this be the breakout game that the Colts could overcome their home demons? It could be.

SAMMY PICK: TROY 21, PONTIAC 14.
ANT PICK: TROY 27, PONTIAC 7.
KEITH PICK: TROY 27, PONTIAC 3.
DAN PICK:  TROY 28, PONTIAC 13.
SEAN PICK: TROY 45, PONTIAC 0.
BURNEY PICK: TROY 26, PONTIAC 16.

Madison Heights Lamphere @ Avondale:

It appears that the Yellow Jackets have seem to turn the corner just a bit but it could be too late with their playoff hopes though. Avondale has outscored its last two opponents 59-6 and will look to score more points in their triple option offense against a Rams team that has only scored 59 points this season and allowed 203 points. Madison Heights Lamphere could be in for a long night against an improving Yellow Jackets team building for the future.

SAMMY PICK: AVONDALE 42, MADISON HEIGHTS LAMPHERE 7.
ANT PICK:  AVONDALE 17, MADISON HEIGHTS LAMPHERE 7.
KEITH PICK: AVONDALE 31, MADISON HEIGHTS LAMPHERE 7.
DAN PICK: AVONDALE 21, MADISON HEIGHTS LAMPHERE 14.
SEAN PICK: AVONDALE 21, MADISON HEIGHTS LAMPHERE 12.
BURNEY PICK: AVONDALE 23, MADISON HEIGHTS LAMPHERE 20.
