Girls Soccer Regional Preview.

Written Sunday June 6th at 12:45 AM

This is insight and projections heading into the regionals for girls soccer.

Region 4 @ Troy Athens

TROY ATHENS vs Romeo

TROY vs New Baltimore Anchor Bay

INSIGHT/PREDICTION: This is an interesting regional shaping up at Troy Athens. The Red Hawks are rolling and is the top team in Division One heading into their matchup with Romeo on their home field. The Bulldogs upset Adams in the district semifinals and Stoney Creek in the district finals to get to the regional. The Colts beat Berkley in the pre-district, Groves in the district semifinals, and needed penalty kicks to beat Bloomfield Hills in the district finals to get to the regional against New Baltimore Anchor Bay. The Tars were very impressive in their district and knocked off host Macomb L’Anse Cruse North in the district finals to get to the regional. I think this will be a battle of the black and gray vs the red and gold. A city battle to say the least in the regional final. Give me the hosts please. PICK: TROY ATHENS.

Region 2 @ Livonia Stevenson

LAKE ORION vs Walled Lake Northern

Hartland vs Novi

INSIGHT/PREDICTION: This is shaping up to be an interesting regional at Livonia Stevenson that involves three Oakland County schools and a Livingston County school. Currently there are two teams that are ranked in Division One and they will play each other in the first regional semifinal matchup. Walled Lake Northern has been riding high heading into the regionals. The Knights are ranked 16th in Division One. They haven’t given up a goal in the postseason and recently upset fellow Lakes Valley Conference and arch rival Walled Lake Central in the district finals ala some controversy which gave them a 1-0 win over the Vikings. Lake Orion has been playing very well as of late earning the 13th ranking in Division One. The Dragons upset Grand Blanc in overtime in the district finals along with beating Davison and Clarkston in the pre-district and district semifinals to get to the regional. On the other side of the regional there is the defending Division One State Champs in Novi. The Wildcats will play fellow Kensington Lakes Activities Association member Hartland in the other regional semifinal. Novi has lived up to their state ranking. The Eagles have two 8-0 postseason wins over East Lansing and Flushing to go along with a 1-0 victory in between over Brighton in the district semifinals. Neither team hasn't given up a goal heading into this matchup. I think the two green teams will meet in the regional finals which might require penalty kicks. I see Novi moving onto the quarterfinals because of field experience with the regional being at Livonia Stevenson and Livonia Stevenson is in the KLAA. PICK NOVI.
