OAA Recap: Week Three.

Written Saturday September 12th at 1:20 AM

INSIDE THE OAA TOP 10:

1.  West Bloomfield

2.  Southfield

3. Harrison

4. Adams

5. Troy Athens

6. Groves

7. Avondale

8. Clarkston

9. Orion

10. Berkley

BIG WIN: Hazel Park: The Vikings snapped a 24 game streak and in dominating fashion with a 38-0 win over Pontiac. It is the first win for Coach Kyle Rowley at Hazel Park. The Phoenix have still not scored a point at all this season and it could be a long season for Pontiac. The Vikings won their first game since 2012 can hang their heads high as they get to play Berkley next.

TOUGH LOSS: Clarkston: Any doubt now who is the best team in the OAA right now? It’s got to be the Lakers. West Bloomfield beat Clarkston 35-21 at home and Swamp stormed the field. It might have been the best win in Lakers history. The Wolves are now 1-2 on the season. The Lakers still have Orion, Oxford, Stoney Creek, and the crossover coming to West Bloomfield. Clarkston still has Orion, the crossover, and Troy Athens on the slate but both teams will be at home.

TEAM THAT NEEDS A HUG: Royal Oak: The Ravens were in the game late with Avondale only to see the Yellow Jackets score a 24 yard touchdown pass with 25 seconds remaining in the game giving them a 15-12 win over Royal Oak. The Ravens have played much better and being in the Blue will sure help them a lot as we get deep into the season. Avondale was lucky tonight to hang on and win.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Oxford: The Wildcats might have been looking ahead to Orion next week but playing the team that beat the Dragons last week in Troy Athens might have not been the best idea not to overlook a team like that. The Red Hawks beat Oxford 28-0 on their home field. It’s the second time the Wildcats have been shutout this season (lost 47-0 to Romeo.) Troy Athens will now have their own home opener as they play West Bloomfield next week. Oxford will have a tough road ahead and no margin for error if they want to return to the playoffs as they have road games at Orion, Clarkston, and West Bloomfield.

There were a lot of upsets throughout the State of Michigan on Friday night out of league. One of those games was in Macomb County as Warren Mott upset Macomb Dakota 32-27 in Warren. The Marauders were up 26-0 after picking off the Cougars four times, recovered a muffed punt, and had a fake punt but Macomb Dakota didn’t quit and would answer. The Cougars outscored them 27-6 late in the second half and was poised to have a game winning drive but was intercepted at the Warren Mott 20 yard line sealing the win and sole possession of first place in the MAC Red. Plymouth Salem is another team that pulled off an upset. The Rocks upset South Lyon 17-8. The Lions led 8-0 at halftime only to see Salem come back and win that game.

We’ll see what happens this week in these games.
