The Highlanders will have a new Girls Basketball Coach next winter.
Adams Coach Shay Lewis has stepped down this past weekend according to two accurate sources and confirmed by a main source.
Lewis also coaches College Basketball at Schoolcraft College.
Lewis had two successful stints at Adams starting in 2014. She returned in 2017 to coach the Highlanders. Lewis led Adams to the district championship game on multiple occasions including the last two years where they lost to Clarkston and once to Waterford Kettering.
The Highlanders lose Maddie Dolenga, Elizabeth Blaine, and Lauren Petersmark to graduation.
Adams was 57-39 under Lewis. They went 5-5 and 1-3 in the White this season.
Whomever the new coach is will have Maddie Kessman, Anaiya Howard, Elizabeth Blaine, and Abbey Drahnak coming back. Program strength is a huge concern for the Highlanders. They did not field a freshman team this season.
Thoughts.
There were hints that Lewis could step down at the end of the season which according to sources it has happened. On the future of the Highlanders, program strength really concerns me surrounding Adams because they normally have three programs but they only had two this season.
Lewis leaves behind a great legacy at Adams. She was a proven winner and turned the Highlanders into a contender year in and year out.
New Adams Athletic Director, Brian Hassler will have his hands full trying to find a new coach to take over the program. Could he go within or could he go outside for his new hire???
It is very possible that the Highlanders could have a culture change. Whomever that new coach is will have a ton of work to do especially from program strength.
Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.
