Novak Leaves Orion.

Well a superstar player is on the way out at Orion.

Maddie Novak has left the Dragons and Orion High School. She will enroll at Birmingham Detroit Country Day for the remainder of the season. Novak will be eligible to play next season for the Yellow Jackets.

The Dragons are in the midst of a 3-7 season so far under first year coach Kevin Kopec. Orion will have ten games left to turn things around this season.

Novak has struggled this season point wise but had 23 points against Pontiac Notre Dame Prep in a 52-51 win and 17 points against Harrison in a 50-49 loss for her now former team.

Novak next season will join a Birmingham Detroit Country Day team loaded with talent.

Thoughts.

This is a big loss for the Dragons with Novak’s departure. They will miss her scoring and playmaking ability but this has the potential to be a win-win for both sides.

Orion still has players whom can play in Lauryn Van Loon, Cameron Coltrin, Delaney Bryce, Sophie Wyborski, Tessa Nuss, Sophie Canine, Paytin Shadaia, and Shannon Falter. Many of them have had the experience playing with Kopec at the Junior Varsity level.

For Novak, this is a fresh start in Birmingham and to continue her career as a Yellow Jacket.

    I don't claim to know the individual situation, but it's disappointing to see all of the transferring from school to school, for the purpose of being in a winning situation. Sports teaches us many life lessons, and develops leadership skills. Part of which is learning how to handle adversity, and work thru challenges. I wish the young lady all the best, but would've been fun to see her in the OAA White a little longer.

I have highest function of autism (Asperger Syndrome.) I'm a huge Dallas Stars fan. I like to play and watch football, especially when the Dragons play on Friday nights. I am a 2006 alum and used to play football for the Dragons. I ran track, I ran the 100, 200, 400 meter dashes along with shot-put and discus. During my time in Orion I was a manager for Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team. I'm the volleyball, girls basketball, and football announcer for the team and do the book on the road for girls basketball. I do the clock for volleyball in the fall along with girls basketball in the winter and announce some boys basketball games as well. In the spring I coach shot-put at Scripps Middle School, in my fifth season coaching. I run the shot-put for high school meets. I played Special Olympics Basketball, I've won three gold medals for them. I host "Between Taorminas" which is on ONTV along with a podcast called "OAA Now". In other various things outside of Lake Orion, I love to jet ski over Saginaw Bay. Saginaw Bay is basically my life. I'm a trained weather spotter for the National Weather Service for Oakland and Huron counties.
