BIG WIN: Ferndale: The Eagles had to score a touchdown with 30 seconds left to win in Dearborn over the Thunderbirds 28-24 on Friday night. Ferndale is now 15-3 in the last two seasons. Eagles coach Eric Royal has done a great job turning around the program and getting it to where they need to be. Ferndale will likely be back in Division Two likely seeing Oak Park, Port Huron Northern, or Detroit Martin Luther King again.

TOUGH LOSS: Harrison: The Hawks fresh off a big win for coach John Herrington took a step back after losing 23-12 to Clarkston on Friday night. Harrison got off to a strong start but the Wolves picked up their game and wore down the Hawks. Both Harrison and Clarkston will await their playoff opponents with the Hawks being in Division Three while the Wolves being in Division One.

TEAM ON THE RISE: Royal Oak: Welcome to the playoffs coach Ray McMann and the Ravens after winning 17-0 over Monroe Jefferson to get into the playoffs for the first time since 2006. Royal Oak will likely be in Division Two for the playoffs and could very well get a tough matchup but for McMann it’s a good feeling to not put away the pads this week.

TEAM THAT’S IN TROUBLE: Groves: The Falcons defense has been a subject of major concern heading into the playoffs in the last two weeks. Groves allowed 33 points against their arch rivals Seaholm but allowed 49 points to West Bloomfield this previous week. Falcons coach Brendan Flaherty needs to get things addressed especially if they have to play either Walled Lake Western or Pinckney in the playoffs.

WHAT HAPPENED: Bloomfield Hills: The Blackhawks defense was nonexistent on Friday night at home against Oak Park. The Knights overcame John Paddock and destroyed Bloomfield Hills in a shootout 58-39. The 58 points allowed is the most points allowed in school history. Both teams will await their future playoffs matchups coming up on Sunday.

TEAM THAT NEEDS A HUG: North Farmington: It’s been a rough season in the first year for coach Bob Chiesa but patience is needed for the Raiders. North Farmington needs to change everything including the uniforms. The Raiders lost 19-9 to Garden City sending their record to 1-8 and 1-17 since 2015. North Farmington has a lot of work to do but they have right coach in place to get this program back on track.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME: Troy Athens: How a failed extra point decided the fate of two teams. It decided the battle of Troy in which the Colts scored on an extra point late in the game to get into the playoffs for the first time since 2009 with a 20-19 win over the Red Hawks at Troy Athens. It was a back and forth affair with both teams wearing special jerseys to honor cancer research. Troy is looking at going to West Bloomfield or going to Sweinhart Field next week.
