BIG WIN: Southfield Arts and Tech. For a team that
needed a win in the worst way it was the Warriors from Southfield Arts and Tech. The Warriors were destroyed 39-0 by Detroit Martin Luther King two weeks ago. Southfield Arts and Tech
battled neck and neck with Clarkston for four tough quarters. The Warriors thought they would win being
up 18-10 late but the Wolves scored and got the two-point conversion late to
force overtime. It would go to double overtime where Southfield Arts and Tech
survived Clarkston 24-18, giving the Warriors their first win as a school and an early edge in the Red.
TOUGH LOSS: Oak Park. The Knights suffered another
tough loss to Groves on Friday night 13-12 but they did have their chances to
win the game but the Falcons managed to shut Oak Park down sending themselves
to 2-0 on the season. The Knights must find a way to turn it around quickly as
they have Farmington next.
TEAM THAT NEEDS A HUG: Oxford. The Wildcats whom beat Romeo two weeks ago in the slimmest of games, hung
tough with the Lakers of West Bloomfield only to lose 27-21. Oxford had their
chances to win but some costly turnovers doomed the Wildcats chances to pull off a second straight upset against
West Bloomfield. Oxford managed to score two touchdowns against the Lakers
special teams but give West Bloomfield credit for not letting Ethan Williams
get into the end zone. The Wildcats go on the road and play Clarkston next.
WHAT HAPPENED: Troy Athens. The Red Hawks did manage
to win over North Farmington as expected but the score was a little surprising, 14-7. Yep 14-7. The Red Hawks offense only scored 14 points, it's very alarming. The Raiders aren’t a good football team but for an
experienced quarterback with a big offensive line to only score 14 points, that’s
not a good thing. They go to Stoney Creek next.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME: Hazel Park AGAIN? For the second
straight week the Vikings gave up more than 40 points, only this time it was to
Royal Oak Shrine in which they allowed 42 points. Hazel Park did manage to
score 24 points, a far cry from the six points they scored against Warren
Fitzgerald. The last two games the Vikings have allowed 107 points and it might
not get any better next week against the Berkley Bears.
IN STATE NEWS:
Utica Eisenhower went into Macomb Dakota and shocked the
Cougars 26-13. At one point in the game the Eagles went up 20-0 in the third
quarter and never looked back. Macomb Dakota has won the last four MAC Red
titles, only in 2014 they shared it with Utica Eisenhower. It’s odd that both
Cougars couch Greg Barr and Eagles coach Chris Smith are defensive minded
coaches but both teams have playmakers on the offensive side of the football.
