OAA Picks Week Three.

Written Tuesday August 6th at 2:30 PM

SAMMY 19-14
ANT 20-13
KEITH 22-11
SEAN 20-13
DAN 19-14
BURNEY 25-8

7. Southfield A&T @ 1. Groves:

The Falcons are riding high at 2-0 but their wins haven’t been the prettiest of victories either but they have managed to get the job done. Groves got a huge league win on Oak Park 13-12 last week after some questionable play calling late in that game. Now they get yet another tough opponent on their insanely tough schedule in Southfield Arts and Tech. The Warriors played much better last week than against Detroit Martin Luther King 39-0 as they stunned Clarkston 24-18 in double overtime. This could be a classic yet again.

SAMMY PICK: GROVES 31, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 18
ANT PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 28, GROVES 24.
KEITH PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 28, GROVES 21.
DAN PICK:  SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 28, GROVES 21.
SEAN PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 20, GROVES 14.
BURNEY PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 27, GROVES 24.

Hazel Park @ 2. Berkley

I don’t know what to say about the Vikings than they have allowed 107 points which is the most in the league so far this year. They looked awful against Warren Fitzgerald two weeks ago losing 65-6 and were outmatched against Royal Oak Shrine losing 42-24 last week. The Bears have been rolling especially getting two wins on the road over Holly 29-26 two weeks ago and Ferndale 34-20 last week. This is the first game at Hurley Field, someone is getting blown out.

SAMMY PICK: BERKLEY 91, HAZEL PARK 0.
ANT PICK: BERKLEY 36, HAZEL PARK 10.
KEITH PICK: BERKLEY 35, HAZEL PARK 0.
DAN PICK: BERKLEY 35, HAZEL PARK 7.
SEAN PICK: BERKLEY 49, HAZEL PARK 6.
BURNEY PICK: BERKLEY 30, HAZEL PARK 15

3. Bloomfield Hills @ Troy:

The Blackhawks have steamrolled through both Rochester 40-13 and Stoney Creek 35-16 the past two weeks. It will be interesting when they get to October though with that record because they have to play Orion, Berkley, and Pontiac Notre Dame Prep. The Colts got their first win in two and a half years when they beat Avondale 21-0 last week. This could be a good game but I think that Bloomfield Hills is a little bit more athletic than Troy is.

SAMMY PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 28, TROY 14.
ANT PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 17, TROY 10.
KEITH PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 24, TROY 20.
DAN PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 28, TROY 14.
SEAN PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 28, TROY 14.
BURNEY PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 26, TROY 18.

North Farmington @ 4. Adams:

7-0, why is 7-0 important??? Well that was the score of the game last season between the Raiders and the Highlanders. It was the score that North Farmington won with on their homecoming but this year the game is in Rochester. Adams though is the more superior team in this matchup and the results will show why.

SAMMY PICK: ADAMS 63, NORTH FARMINGTON 0.
ANT PICK: ADAMS 21, NORTH FARMINGTON 0.
KEITH PICK: ADAMS 21, NORTH FARMINGTON 14.
DAN PICK: ADAMS 21, NORTH FARMINGTON 0.
SEAN PICK: ADAMS 42, NORTH FARMINGTON 7.
BURNEY PICK: ADAMS 25, NORTH FARMINGTON 12.

5. Harrison @ Seaholm:

The Hawks bounced back in a big way by pounding Farmington 40-0 last week after losing a tough one two weeks ago to East Kentwood. The Maples have only scored three points in their last two games and were shutout last week by Adams. This one looks like it’s a mismatch on paper and it could very well be that way.

SAMMY PICK: HARRISON 42, SEAHOLM 3.
ANT PICK: HARRISON 45, SEAHOLM 0.
KEITH PICK: HARRISON 34, SEAHOLM 17.
DAN PICK: HARRISON 31, SEAHOLM 14.
SEAN PICK: HARRISON 35, SEAHOLM 0.
BURNEY PICK: HARRISON 30, SEAHOLM 7.

Orion @ 6. West Bloomfield:

The Lakers have outscored the Dragons 62-0 in the last two meetings. This is a different West Bloomfield team in years past but don’t tell that to this season’s team. The Lakers had to overcome some adversity after learning they had to forfeit the Groves game two weeks ago. West Bloomfield pulled off a tough 27-21 win over Oxford last week. Orion is a different team than the last two years has had to overcome some adversity themselves after a poor showing two weeks ago against Chippewa Valley. The Dragons might have found an offense and a defense in a 30-10 victory last week over Stoney Creek. Whoever’s style of play shows up will win this game, the Lakers skill players or the Dragons grit will win this game.

SAMMY PICK: ORION 28, WEST BLOOMFIELD 21.
ANT PICK: ORION 28, WEST BLOOMFIELD 27.
KEITH PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 35, ORION 24.
DAN PICK: ORION 21, WEST BLOOMFIELD 20.
SEAN PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 34, ORION 14.
BURNEY PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 31, ORION 16.

9. Oxford @ 8. Clarkston:

The Wildcats have been battled tested in their last two games, beating Romeo 27-26 two weeks ago and losing a heartbreaker to West Bloomfield 27-21 last week. The Wolves have also been battle tested, beating Lapeer 28-7 and losing a heartbreaker to Southfield Arts and Tech 24-18 in double overtime last week. This will be Oxford’s first road game while Clarkston will host their first home game. Whoever’s passing game shows up will win this game here.

SAMMY PICK: CLARKSTON 28, OXFORD 14.
ANT PICK: CLARKSTON 28, OXFORD 14.
KEITH PICK: CLARKSTON 17, OXFORD 14.
DAN PICK: CLARKSTON 24, OXFORD 21.
SEAN PICK: CLARKSTON 35, OXFORD 21.
BURNEY PICK: CLARKSTON 35, OXFORD 33.

Avondale @ 10. Ferndale:

The Yellow Jackets have struggled with consistency as of late but they are still adapting to the transition of coach Ed Coutrier after going through a very tough offseason. Avondale lost a heartbreaker to New Boston Huron 22-18 two weeks ago and then lost to Troy 21-0 at home last week. Ferndale has that big win over Madison Heights Lamphere 42-7 two weeks ago and were very competitive with Berkley despite losing 34-20 last week. There is some fire in coach Eric Royal’s Eagles.

SAMMY PICK: FERNDALE 24, AVONDALE 21.
ANT PICK: FERNDALE 27, AVONDALE 14.
KEITH PICK: FERNDALE 27, AVONDALE 13.
DAN PICK: FERNDALE 20, AVONDALE 17.
SEAN PICK: FERNDALE 28, AVONDALE 12.
BURNEY PICK: FERNDALE 22, AVONDALE 17.

Troy Athens @ Stoney Creek:

This will be coach Bob Lantzy’s first TRUE home game in 41 years. He had to take a bus for home games when he was at Utica Eisenhower to Sweinhart Field but now he doesn’t have to anymore since he is the head coach of the Cougars and Stoney Creek has their own home field. Stoney Creek has lost two tough games to Orion 30-10 last week and to Bloomfield Hills 35-16. The Red Hawks have been struggling as of late offensively, one was expected against Warren Mott in a 28-7 loss but the other game against North Farmington was just as shocking despite the fact that Troy Athens won 14-7, it wasn’t crisp or smooth. This one could have upset in the making here and fireworks could be exploding through the sky which has become a tradition at Stoney Creek.

SAMMY PICK: STONEY CREEK 21, TROY ATHENS 14.
ANT PICK: TROY ATHENS 14, STONEY CREEK 10.
KEITH PICK: TROY ATHENS 14, STONEY CREEK 10.
DAN PICK: TROY ATHENS 17, STONEY CREEK 10.
SEAN PICK: TROY ATHENS 14, STONEY CREEK 10.
BURNEY PICK: TROY ATHENS 21, STONEY CREEK 20.

Royal Oak @ Pontiac:

There is one squad I’m very disappointed with and there is another that was expected to be here. If you think about it both the Ravens and Phoenix have had their fair share of issues. Pontiac shouldn’t have played Detroit Country Day last week in which they were crushed 56-6. Royal Oak was very competitive in a 48-36 loss to Stockbridge after a poor showing against Lakeview where they lost 21-0 two weeks ago. Somebody has to win this one.

SAMMY PICK: ROYAL OAK 22, PONTIAC 18.
ANT PICK: ROYAL OAK 14, PONTIAC 10.
KEITH PICK: ROYAL OAK 42, PONTIAC 6.
DAN PICK: ROYAL OAK 28, PONTIAC 6.
SEAN PICK: ROYAL OAK 35, PONTIAC 6.
BURNEY PICK: ROYAL OAK 35, PONTIAC 10.

Rochester @ Pontiac Notre Dame Prep:

The Falcons go out of league for their next game against a very good Fighting Irish team who comes in at 2-0. Rochester has lost their last two games to two very good teams in Adams 33-14 two weeks ago and Bloomfield Hills 40-13 last week. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep won’t make things any easier for coach Erik Vernon and his crew.

SAMMY PICK: PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 28, ROCHESTER 7.
ANT PICK: PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 17, ROCHESTER 7.
KEITH PICK: PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 21, ROCHESTER 20.
DAN PICK:  PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 20, ROCHESTER 17.
SEAN PICK: PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 42, ROCHESTER 14.
BURNEY PICK: PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 28, ROCHESTER 24.

Farmington @ Oak Park:

This is very unusual to see a Greg Carter led Knights team at 0-2. The last time Oak Park started 0-2 was 2011 and they didn’t make the playoffs. The Knights would also love to get revenge on a Farmington team it lost too last season 20-19 on the road. The Falcons have played a murders row type of schedule getting outscored 81-14 in their last two games. Oak Park needs this one badly and are about to get one in Knight Valley.

SAMMY PICK: OAK PARK 65, FARMINGTON 0.
ANT PICK: OAK PARK 46, FARMINGTON 0.
KEITH PICK: OAK PARK 23, FARMINGTON 7.
DAN PICK:  OAK PARK 28, FARMINGTON 7.
SEAN PICK: OAK PARK 40, FARMINGTON 0.
BURNEY PICK: OAK PARK 34, FARMINGTON 20.
