OAA Picks Feb 15, 16, 17.

Written Sunday February 14th at 4:40 PM

Girls.

Bloomfield Hills at Clarkston: No Amanda Sape in this game means that Kayla Luchenbach and Molly Nicholson will have their way with the Blackhawks in the paint. The Wolves have won two straight games while Bloomfield Hills have lost two of three games since Sape went down with a concussion. They could meet again in a week. PICK: CLARKSTON BY 14.

Lathrup at Troy: The Chargers and Colts are in two different planets right now. This won’t end well for Troy. PICK: LATHRUP BY 50.

Rochester Lutheran Northwest at Adams: If the Crusaders can’t beat Stoney Creek, what makes me think that they can beat the Highlanders??? PICK: ADAMS BY 10.

Oxford at Lapeer: The Wildcats are improved and better but the Lightning are solid, a lot of experience on that Lapeer squad will be too much for Oxford to handle. PICK: LAPEER BY 6.

Seaholm at Ferndale: Not sure how many players will be available for the Eagles after the in court fight with Groves. The Maples will come into Ferndale in a foul mood after losing to Southfield on Friday and it will show badly. PICK: SEAHOLM BY 34.

Berkley at Southfield: The Blue Jays will be riding high after winning an emotional game over Seaholm. Southfield is rolling right now. Berkley is rolling as well but the Blue Jays are in another orbit right now. PICK: SOUTHFIELD BY 12.

Hazel Park at Harper Woods: The Vikings picked up a huge win over Pontiac on Friday. Harper Woods is a good team though and will test Hazel Park. Going into Wayne County won’t favor the Vikings. PICK: HARPER WOODS BY 5.

Linden at Troy Athens: The Red Hawks suffered a tough loss to Berkley on Friday and we don’t know where the mental mindset of Troy Athens is right now. The Eagles will provide a stiff test and the last time the Red Hawks played a Flint Metro League team they lost to Brandon but Linden played an OAA team in Orion earlier in the season and lost. PICK: LINDEN BY 3.

Boys.

Red.

Adams at Clarkston: The Highlanders looked really disappointing against Southfield on Friday night. The Wolves aren’t in a good mood after losing to North Farmington on Friday night. The team with more talent will win on Tuesday and that team will be Clarkston. PICK: CLARKSTON BY 10.

Troy Athens at Southfield: The Blue Jays are coming off a monstrous win at Adams on Friday night while the Red Hawks suffered a loss to Lathrup on Thursday night. Southfield has been an up and down team with the lowest of lows suffered last week to Oak Park. Troy Athens has had a long season but the last time these two played the Red Hawks lost 73-70 in January however this matchup is set being a 5:30 game, it will hurt Troy Athens in this game. PICK: SOUTHFIELD BY 4.

Lathrup at North Farmington: The Raiders are in much better shape now until they go to Southfield and to Adams at the end of February and the beginning of March. The Chargers got a huge win over Troy Athens on Thursday night but North Farmington will be a different animal. PICK: NORTH FARMINGTON BY 32.

White.

Bloomfield Hills at Troy: The Colts are red hot with the way they are playing winning four straight games including wins over Oak Park and Avondale while the Blackhawks are struggling, losers of two straight games to North Farmington and Pontiac. Bloomfield Hills beat Troy 50-48 the last time they met so this will be a heck of a game between these two teams. The Blackhawks are tied with Pontiac in the standings but after this game they will be a game behind. PICK: TROY BY 4.

West Bloomfield at Oak Park: The Lakers have won two straight games since losing to Pontiac by three points. The Knights still have not had their full team back as there are still questions about Kevon Fuller and his academics at Oak Park. The last meeting was 51-39 West Bloomfield. If Fuller is back, he gives the Knights a great chance to win but the Lakers will be too much for the Knights in Knight Valley. PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD BY 9.

Avondale at Pontiac: The Phoenix have been rolling through the league including a huge win over Bloomfield Hills on Tuesday while the Yellow Jackets have been struggling after getting blown out by West Bloomfield. The last meeting was 47-35 Pontiac over Avondale. The Phoenix right now are tied with Bloomfield Hills after splitting with them. If Pontiac keeps on winning games, then they would win the division. The Yellow Jackets won’t be easy but with the way the Phoenix plays it could be a long night for Avondale. PICK: PONTIAC BY 14.

Blue.

Stoney Creek at Orion: The key stat was 35-6 the last time the Dragons and Cougars met in January and that was the free throw differential. Stoney Creek won 76-71 in that meeting. Orion is red hot winning five straight games since losing to Stoney Creek. The Cougars are getting back on track a bit since losing to Avondale at the Palace. This game will be interesting because the Dragons are the only team standing in the way of a Blue title for Stoney Creek but if the three-point shot isn’t falling for the Cougars then they could be in some trouble and Orion’s gym has a history of not being kind to three point shooters. PICK: ORION BY 3.

Oxford at Seaholm: The Maples were making progress after upsetting Royal Oak last Friday night but they were blown out at Stoney Creek on Thursday. Seaholm finally returns home to the Maple Forest after a three game road trip. The Wildcats currently on a three game road trip was humiliated by Ferndale last Friday but bounced back to beat Farmington on Thursday which was the first road win of the season for Oxford. The Maples are a much better home team and would like to get some revenge after a 72-64 defeat in January. Seaholm could very well get that revenge in this game. PICK: SEAHOLM BY 2.

Farmington at Rochester: The Falcons are still upset after blowing an eight-point fourth quarter lead to Orion on Thursday night. The other Falcons are struggling mightily since the Jordan Graham incident. This is Farmington’s last road game in the league until districts start when they go to Orchard Lake St. Mary’s. Also what will motivate Rochester is that they gave away the game at Farmington in a 48-45 loss when Graham got an And-One to win that game. The Falcons are motivated to get some revenge on the other Falcons and they will badly. PICK: ROCHESTER BY 15.

Gold.

Royal Oak at Groves: In a battle for second place in the division the Ravens have already played Hazel Park twice and lost both times. The Falcons will get another crack at Hazel Park on March 1st but they need to win this game if they have any chance to catch the Vikings. Groves lost 79-71 to Royal Oak the last time these two met. It will be a different outcome this time around. PICK: GROVES BY 6.

Hazel Park at Ferndale: The Vikings are in the driver’s seat in the Gold now after beating Royal Oak on Thursday. Hazel Park controls its own destiny and will head into Ferndale where the Eagles and the last time Ferndale was at home, they upset Oxford by 10. Do I see another miracle here??? Nope. PICK: HAZEL PARK BY 10.

Harrison at Berkley: The Hawks are 2-2 in their last four games but is only a game back of Hazel Park for the Gold. The Bears are 2-8 in their last 10 games, that’s not a good thing heading toward March for Berkley. PICK: HARRISON BY 8.
