Written Saturday May 15th at 11:00 AM

Here is the track regional previews for next week's competitions surrounding the OAA. My co-host Ian Locke and myself will break down the regionals on the podcast on Monday the 17th. Anyway here are the previews and projections.

Region 7 @ Farmington

FARMINGTON

BERKLEY

GROVES

SEAHOLM

NORTH FARMINGTON

OAK PARK

SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH

WEST BLOOMFIELD

ROYAL OAK

Birmingham Brother Rice

Farmington Hills Mercy

Detroit Renaissance

Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit

Livonia Stevenson

Novi

Redford Thurston

BOYS INSIGHT/PROJECTION: This will be the regional to cover my co-host Ian Locke and I on the podcast broke down this regional a little bit last week but we will go more in depth this week. There are a ton of very good teams in this regional. Oak Park should be the favorite based on their balance in the sprints, distance, and the relays. The Knights should have plenty of challengers with Farmington, Detroit Renaissance, West Bloomfield, Birmingham Brother Rice, Seaholm, Novi and Royal Oak. The Knights and Falcons shared the Blue/Gold meet which makes this regional really interesting. This regional will be close as mentioned but I think the Wildcats sneak up and win this regional with their distance and relays. PICK: NOVI.

GIRLS INSIGHT/PROJECTION: The girls regional is very interesting at Farmington. There are a ton of good teams that are also here in this regional. Oak Park is the favorite especially with their relays and sprints. They looked very impressive in the Blue/Gold meet last week at Berkley winning in blowout fashion. I expect Detroit Renaissance, Seaholm, Royal Oak, Novi, and Farmington to score in bunches as well. I think this is going to be very close between the Phoenix, Maples, Ravens, Falcons, Wildcats, and Knights but end of the day too much Oak Park. PICK: OAK PARK.

Region 9 at Lake Orion

LAKE ORION

AVONDALE

BLOOMFIELD HILLS

CLARKSTON

OXFORD

ROCHESTER

ADAMS

STONEY CREEK

Fenton

Holly

Lapeer

Romeo

Walled Lake Northern

Waterford Kettering

Waterford Mott

Lakeland

BOYS INSIGHT/PROJECTION: This is shaping up to be a very interesting regional at Lake Orion which features some powerhouse programs. Fenton is the early favorite based on their times during the season. They had a very strong showing at the Flint Metro League meet. The Tigers should get plenty of competition in this regional from Lake Orion, Romeo, and Adams. The Dragons and Highlanders shared the Red with Adams in the regular season and Lake Orion in the Red/White meet. I expect this will be a very close meet but the edge has to go to Fenton but don’t be surprised if Adams, Lake Orion, or Romeo wins this regional. PICK: ADAMS.

GIRLS INSIGHT/PROJECTION: This is shaping up to be a very interesting regional at Lake Orion. The favorite has to be Adams because of their balance and depth. The Highlanders should have plenty of competition in this regional with Oxford, Bloomfield Hills, Romeo, Fenton, and maybe Lake Orion. The Blackhawks had a very strong showing at the Red/White Meet. Fenton had a strong showing in the Flint Metro League meet. This is shaping up to be a very close regional between the six teams mentioned above in this regional but I think this is the year of the Highlanders. PICK: ADAMS.

Region 10 at Chippewa Valley

Chippewa Valley

TROY

TROY ATHENS

Fraser

Macomb L’Anse Creuse

Macomb Dakota

Macomb L’Anse Creuse North

New Baltimore Anchor Bay

Port Huron

Port Huron Northern

Sterling Heights

Sterling Heights Stevenson

Utica

Utica Eisenhower

Utica Ford II

BOYS INSIGHT/PROJECTION: This is shaping up to be an interesting regional at Chippewa Valley. The Big Reds has the sprinters. Macomb Dakota has a ton of balance. I expect Troy will also score well in this regional along with Chippewa Valley. I think too much balance the Cougars have will win them this regional. PICK: MACOMB DAKOTA.

GIRLS INSIGHT/PROJECTION: This is shaping up to be an interesting regional but looking at the stats. Macomb Dakota has to be the favorite. The Cougars are loaded everywhere and could score in bunches in this regional. Troy has the distance and some sprinting to match up with Macomb Dakota but I don’t think they have enough to beat the Cougars whom is loaded everywhere as mentioned. PICK: MACOMB DAKOTA.

Region 18 at Madison Heights Lamphere

Madison Heights Lamphere

FERNDALE

Birmingham Marian

Birmingham Detroit Country Day

Center Line

Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood

Detroit Denby

Detroit East English Village Prep

Detroit Osborn

Eastpointe

Harper Woods

Hazel Park

Orchard Lake St. Marys

St. Clair Shores South Lake

Warren Fitzgerald

Warren Lincoln

Warren Regina

BOYS INSIGHT/PROJECTION: This is shaping up to be a very interesting regional. Birmingham Detroit Country Day and Orchard Lake St. Marys are the favorites coming into this regional. Both of them are within the top of the ranks in each event and have secondary scoring to cover if things go bad. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood and maybe Ferndale could be darkhorses in this regional. I think the Eaglets have just enough to edge the Yellow Jackets. Everyone else will score points but not enough against the top two teams. PICK: ORCHARD LAKE ST. MARYS.

GIRLS INSIGHT/PROJECTION: This is shaping up to be a very interesting four team regional with Birmingham Marian, Birmingham Detroit Country Day, Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood, and Warren Regina. Each team has different strengths. The Yellow Jackets are the slight favorite because they are at least in the top ten in each event. This should be a close meet but end of the day give me Birmingham Detroit Country Day. PICK: BIRMINGHAM DETROIT COUNTRY DAY.

Region 19 at Corunna

Corunna

PONTIAC

Flint Kearsley

Flint

Flint Powers

Fowlerville

Goodrich

Haslett

Lake Fenton

Lansing Catholic

Lansing Eastern

Lansing Sexton

Linden

Brandon

Owosso

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

St. Johns

Williamston

BOYS INSIGHT/PROJECTION: This is shaping up to be a very interesting regional in Shiawassee County. I’m seeing a two team race for now between Flint Powers and St. Johns. The Chargers are very strong in the sprints and in the throws while the Red Wings are strong in the distance and balance each other out in sprints. I think this is going to be a close meet between the two but watch out for Corunna. The Cavaliers are a darkhorse candidate and they won the Flint Metro League in blowout fashion. I like Flint Powers because of the sprints, relays, and throws. In a regional like this secondary scoring will be very important. PICK FLINT POWERS.

GIRLS INSIGHT/PROJECTION: This should be a very interesting regional in Shiawassee County. Each team brings something different to the fold. The Cavaliers won the Flint Metro League meet has the distance and field events to score a ton. Fowlerville and Flint Powers both bring hurdle threats. Linden has the sprint relays to do very well. I think the difference will be home field and Corunna's balance will be too much. PICK CORUNNA.

Region 27 at Madison Heights Bishop Foley

Madison Heights Bishop Foley

FERNDALE UNIVERSITY

Clawson

Clintondale

Detroit College Prep

Detroit Central

Detroit Edison

Detroit Jalen Rose Academy

Detroit Loyola

Detroit Pershing

Detroit University Science and Math

Grosse Pointe University Liggett

Madison Heights Madison

Rochester Lutheran Northwest

Royal Oak Shrine

Southfield Bradford Academy

Warren Michigan Collegiate

BOYS INSIGHT/PROJECTION: This regional looks to be a mismatch on paper. Madison Heights Bishop Foley is the overwhelming favorite as they have the sprints and relays. Also they have the top three times heading into this event on several races. Detroit Loyola should keep it close though but end of the day I think the Ventures will win this regional on their home track with flying colors. PICK: MADISON HEIGHTS BISHOP FOLEY.

GIRLS INSIGHT/PROJECTION: The girls could be very interesting in this regional. Ferndale University, Royal Oak Shrine, Detroit Edison, Clawson, and Madison Heights Bishop Foley all have shots to win this regional. I think the key will be whom supporting cast shows up because there are a ton of talent with proven times. I’m giving a slight edge to Royal Oak Shrine. I think they have a little bit more balance. PICK: ROYAL OAK SHRINE.
