The Eagles will have a new girls basketball coach this upcoming winter.

According to C&G Sports, Ferndale named Keith Paris as the team's new coach replacing Laura Hofner who stepped down last season.

Paris is the Eagles fifth coach in five seasons.

Paris was an assistant last season under Hofner. He brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to Ferndale. The Eagles have been a program that has struggled in the past. Last season, they went 4-5 in the Blue. Ferndale will compete in the Blue this season.

The Eagles will have Kenisha Williams back along with a good core along with a not so strong district that has Detroit Communication Media Arts, Detroit Old Redford, Detroit Cornerstone, and Detroit Cody.

They need to create some stability to a program that needs it. Ferndale has only one team (varsity) and no sub-varsity teams. If Paris can get a lot of girls to come out and play basketball then he could have the ability to get the varsity program better but also create the sub varsity program as well which brings stability to the Eagles.

Thoughts

This is an interesting hire with Paris at Ferndale for Athletic Director Shawn Butler. In the Blue, I don't think the Eagles are better than Berkley or Rochester but Paris has a long way to go to get this program relevant.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

Here is the article confirming the Paris hire.
