There will be a new coach and a new culture at Stoney Creek come this winter.
Brad Crighton, the Cougars only known coach since 2002 has resigned from coaching girls basketball at the school.
The reason he left was for family reasons according to MIPrepzone's Scott Burnstein.
Crighton has led Stoney Creek to six straight district titles and has coached the Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team from 2002 until 2007. He has also coached top notch players such as Gabby Yurik, Maria Zandi, and Brittney Nelson.
The Cougars will be a very small team size wise heading into the winter but they do return a lot of experience and three point shooting, led by small forward/guard Ally Voss, power forward Courtney Elkhart, forward Emma Sobyczyncki, and guards Emily Solek, and Morgan Porter.
I think Crighton's top assistant should take over the team. It would bring stability to a solid group and program. Also remember Stoney Creek is changing Athletic Director's as Shane Redshaw left for Fraser in June.
Stoney Creek plays in a very tough Red division with Lathrup, Harrison, Adams, and Clarkston. Also the district won't be easy at the Cougars are with Utica, Utica Eisenhower, Adams, and Rochester. The district will be at Utica High School in which the school has a small gym.
The Cougars will open up the season on December 2nd against Rochester. Their road opener is December 8th at Utica.
We'll keep an eye on whom will be the new head coach for the Cougars girls program on OAA Now and also on the blog.
