Week Six Picks.

Written Wednesday October 21st at 10:20 AM

We are getting close to the postseason so here are the picks for Week Six.

Sammy Taormina is SANDY DUNES, Ian Locke is LOCKE, Keith Dunlap is DUNLAP, Scott Burnstein is BURNEY, Dan Stickradt is STICK, and Sean Cotter is COTTER. Here are our picks for Week Six.

SANDY DUNES: 42-13

LOCKE: 33-22

DUNLAP: 40-15

BURNEY: 42-13

STICK: 40-15

COTTER: 47-8

6. Groves at 1. Stoney Creek: The Cougars have never been 5-0 in school history but they pulled that feet last week when they beat Southfield Arts and Tech 36-7. Stoney Creek remembers that botched handoff in Beverly Hills that went for a touchdown the other way. That play cost them the game falling 28-23 last season giving them their third loss that season. The Falcons have been up and down but picked up a huge 38-20 victory at Oak Park. Groves has won three straight over Stoney Creek but this is a different Cougars team than in past years. Playoff seeding is also on the line in this game especially for Stoney Creek. It should be a very good game on Tienken and Sheldon Road.

SANDY DUNES PICK: STONEY CREEK 35, GROVES 14.

LOCKE PICK: STONEY CREEK over GROVES.

DUNLAP PICK: STONEY CREEK 31, GROVES 21.

BURNEY PICK: STONEY CREEK 31, GROVES 29.

STICK PICK: STONEY CREEK 35, GROVES 21.

COTTER PICK: STONEY CREEK 42, GROVES 14.

Oak Park at 2. Clarkston: With playoff seeding likely set for both teams there is going to be a ton of motivation for the Wolves after letting up 64 points in a 64-41 Knights victory at Clarkston. Now both teams are different than they were from last season. Oak Park has really struggled but they did find some promise despite falling 38-20 to Groves last week. The Knights are likely going to see Wyandotte Roosevelt in the postseason. The Wolves had a very strong second half behind two touchdowns each from Davis York and Mike Hein beating Seaholm 35-7 last week. It looks like a mismatch on paper, it could get very ugly at Clarkston

SANDY DUNES PICK: CLARKSTON 52, OAK PARK 6.

LOCKE PICK: CLARKSTON 56, OAK PARK 14.

DUNLAP PICK: CLARKSTON 35, OAK PARK 7.

BURNEY PICK: CLARKSTON 35, OAK PARK 25.

STICK PICK: CLARKSTON 31, OAK PARK 7.

COTTER PICK: CLARKSTON 45, OAK PARK 6.

5. Lake Orion at 3. West Bloomfield: Last season this game went four overtimes but the Lakers escaped with a 59-52 win over the Dragons. This season not so much despite the combined 7-2 record between the two teams with both of their losses to Clarkston. West Bloomfield has been rolling since their 24-21 heartbreaking overtime loss to Clarkston by outscoring their opponents by a combined 92-0 including a 37-0 blowout of Adams last week. Lake Orion whom lost 31-7 to Clarkston two weeks ago has had their fair share of issues offensively but they managed to figure some things out after blowing out Farmington 35-7. It will be interesting to see how both teams play this game out knowing where they are at when it comes to the playoff seeding in their district but the Lakers could be playing for a number one seed especially with what happened with Sterling Heights Stevenson’s 35-28 win over Grosse Pointe South. The Dragons look like they are on a collision course with Grand Blanc in the postseason. I just hope both teams can stay healthy before the playoffs start next week.

SANDY DUNES PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 27, LAKE ORION 17.

LOCKE PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 24, LAKE ORION 7.

DUNLAP PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 28, LAKE ORION 14.

BURNEY PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 27, LAKE ORION 20.

STICK PICK:  WEST BLOOMFIELD 35, LAKE ORION 7.

COTTER PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 35, LAKE ORION 0.

4. Rochester at 8. Berkley: The Blue is on the line in this game at Hurley Field along with playoff seeding come next week but the spice and hype of this game might have been taking a bit out with the Bears losing 35-34 in overtime to Bloomfield Hills. Berkley still controls their destiny and could clinch a share if they win this game. The Falcons are 5-0 for the first time since 1993 and have clinched a share of the Blue with Berkley’s loss to Bloomfield Hills last week. They have scored over 40 points in each game this season including a 40-16 over Ferndale last week. The skill player matchup will be very interesting to watch especially with the Bears. It will be very interesting to see who starts at quarterback for them in this game. Berkley has Jake Domzalski, his brother Ian Domzalski, Zach Marrice, and Liam Sarris going up against Alex Bueno, Bobby Kroner, and Preston Schroyer. The offensive and defensive line matchup I would have to give a slight edge to Rochester based on the experience. The coaching matchup should be very intense between Sean Shields and Eric Vernon. This is shaping up to be a very good game at Hurley Field.

SANDY DUNES PICK: ROCHESTER 40, BERKLEY 33.

LOCKE PICK: ROCHESTER 42, BERKLEY 14.

DUNLAP PICK: ROCHESTER 42, BERKLEY 17.

BURNEY PICK: ROCHESTER 28, BERKLEY 23.

STICK PICK: ROCHESTER 34, BERKLEY 20.

COTTER PICK: ROCHESTER 40, BERKLEY 21.

7. Seaholm at 9. North Farmington: This is going to be the first meeting between the schools since 2018 when Seaholm beat North Farmington 47-6 but the Raiders have a whole new regime that is there now and things are different there as well. North Farmington won 14-3 at Oxford last week. They have a very good quarterback in Jacob Bousamara along with standouts Aaron Rice and Jasper Beeler. The Maples had a very rough time with Clarkston falling 35-7 on the road. They have several standouts as well in quarterback Caleb Knoer and standout Will McBride. The Raiders have had a ton of trouble against teams that run the veer this season so this should be an interesting game at North Farmington.

SANDY DUNES PICK: SEAHOLM 24, NORTH FARMINGTON 21.

LOCKE PICK: SEAHOLM over NORTH FARMINGTON.

DUNLAP PICK: SEAHOLM 24, NORTH FARMINGTON 16.

BURNEY PICK: SEAHOLM 34, NORTH FARMINGTON 33.

STICK PICK: SEAHOLM 21, NORTH FARMINGTON 14.

COTTER PICK: SEAHOLM 35, NORTH FARMINGTON 21.

Avondale at 10. Bloomfield Hills: The Blackhawks had a really emotional victory last week behind the arm of quarterback Tanner Slazinski and the foot of kicker Sara Huston when they went into Hurley Field and stunned Berkley 35-34 in overtime. Bloomfield Hills despite losing two straight prior to last week is still in the conversation for the Blue. They need a win and help from the Bears in their game with Rochester to clinch a share of the Blue. This is the first meeting between the Yellow Jackets and Blackhawks since 2016. Avondale has won two straight by a combined 92-12 including last week’s 26-10 win over Royal Oak. Athleticism favors Avondale but scheme favors Bloomfield Hills. This is shaping up to be a very interesting game.

SANDY DUNES PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 31, AVONDALE 17.

LOCKE PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS over AVONDALE.

DUNLAP PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 24, AVONDALE 17.

BURNEY PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 27, AVONDALE 17.

STICK PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 24, AVONDALE 21.

COTTER PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 34, AVONDALE 14.

Southfield Arts and Tech at Oxford: This is shaping up to be a very interesting game heading into the playoffs. The Wildcats have had some problems offensively only scoring three points in two weeks. Oxford lost 14-3 to North Farmington last week at home. The Warriors are coming off a 36-7 loss to Stoney Creek on their home field. The quarterback matchup is going to be very interesting between Brady Carpenter and Isiah Marshall along with the running back matchup between RaeQuan Lee and Tate Muir. It is a clash of styles which makes this game more interesting at Wildcat Stadium.

SANDY DUNES PICK: OXFORD 35, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 14.

LOCKE PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 20, OXFORD 17.

DUNLAP PICK: OXFORD 21, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 20.

BURNEY PICK: OXFORD 26, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 17.

STICK PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 22, OXFORD 21.

COTTER PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 32, OXFORD 7.

Ferndale at Pontiac: It has been a trying week for both teams. The Eagles had been in the conversation for the Blue title but took a huge hit with a 40-16 loss to Rochester last week. Ferndale has scored only 24 points in their two losses this season but over 28 points in their wins however the Eagles still control their own destiny in the Blue pending if Berkley beats Rochester. It’s been a challenging season for the Phoenix but they have been hanging in there. Pontiac lost 49-0 to Troy last week. Ferndale has won six straight over the Phoenix by blowout margins. It could get very ugly again this week at Wisner Stadium.

SANDY DUNES PICK: FERNDALE 52, PONTIAC 6.

LOCKE PICK: FERNDALE 56, PONTIAC 6.

DUNLAP PICK: FERNDALE 35, PONTIAC 6.

BURNEY PICK: FERNDALE 30, PONTIAC 15.

STICK PICK: FERNDALE 28, PONTIAC 14.

COTTER PICK: FERNDALE 56, PONTIAC 6.

Fraser at Royal Oak: This is the first meeting between the Ravens and the Ramblers. Royal Oak is going to have their hands full against a Fraser squad that is having a good season coming in at 3-2 after going 10-25 since 2015. The only two losses were a 51-12 blowout to Port Huron and a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to L’Anse Creuse. The Ramblers three wins were over playoff teams from last season in St. Clair Shores Lakeshore (42-28), Sterling Heights (22-14), and last week over Port Huron Northern (24-21.) Fraser has a very good one/two punch in quarterback Brady Berezowsky and running back Darrick Price. The Ravens have really struggled lately going 3-11 in two years including losing 26-10 to Avondale last week. It could be a long night for Royal Oak on Friday night if the Ramblers are clicking on all cylinders.

SANDY DUNES PICK: FRASER 28, ROYAL OAK 7.

LOCKE PICK: FRASER over ROYAL OAK

DUNLAP PICK: FRASER 24, ROYAL OAK 14.

BURNEY PICK: ROYAL OAK 25, FRASER 22.

STICK PICK: ROYAL OAK 21, FRASER 20.

COTTER PICK: FRASER 28, ROYAL OAK 10.

Troy Athens at Troy: This rivalry is always very important in the city of Troy. Troy calls Troy Athens “That School Down the Road.” I’m not sure what the Red Hawks call Troy but that “The School from Long Lake” could work. Troy Athens has won the last two straight meetings by a combined 73-0. They have won five of the last nine meetings over the Colts. The Red Hawks did not play last week while Troy won 49-0 over Pontiac behind David Lennon’s three rushing touchdowns. The running back and quarterback matchups are going to be very interesting between Lennon and Waides Ashmon and Nate Hazen vs Max Stromberg and Lennon. Troy Athens is healthier right now so they have an advantage right there but you never know with Troy. It should be very interesting at Don Hill Stadium this week.

SANDY DUNES PICK: TROY ATHENS 31, TROY 7.

LOCKE PICK: TROY ATHENS over TROY.

DUNLAP PICK: TROY ATHENS 28, TROY 10.

BURNEY PICK: TROY 26, TROY ATHENS 24.

STICK PICK:  TROY 28, TROY ATHENS 27.

COTTER PICK: TROY ATHENS 28, TROY 7.

Adams at Farmington: These are two teams that were very young this season but with a combined 1-9 record it’s really hard to watch. Adams has The Highlanders were shutout by West Bloomfield 37-0 in the Swamp while the Falcons lost at Lake Orion 35-7 last week. The running back matchup should be very interesting between Nick Trafacante and Jacob Sanders. Whoever wins the battle in the trenches should win this game. Playoff seeding is also on the line especially for Adams. There are a ton of postseason possibilities surrounding the Highlanders in that brutal district. Farmington is likely heading to Runkel Field to play Sterling Heights Stevenson.

SANDY DUNES PICK: ADAMS 24, FARMINGTON 14.

LOCKE PICK: ADAMS over FARMINGTON.

DUNLAP PICK: ADAMS 20, FARMINGTON 17.

BURNEY PICK: ADAMS 28, FARMINGTON 18.

STICK PICK: ADAMS 24, FARMINGTON 21.

COTTER PICK: ADAMS 38, FARMINGTON 7.
