SANDY DUNES: 34-11
LOCKE: 24-21
DUNLAP: 32-13
BURNEY: 34-11
STICK: 33-12
COTTER: 38-7
1. Stoney Creek at Southfield Arts and Tech: This should be the Cougars biggest test to date when they travel to Southfield to play the Warriors. Stoney Creek has made a ton of statements this season but they haven’t beaten a Red opponent. The Cougars earned their first win at Adams with a 23-10 victory over Adams. It's the second ever win over the Highlanders in school history. Southfield Arts and Tech beat Oak Park 33-6 earning their first win of the season. There are a ton of storylines and great individual and coaching matchups heading into this game.
SANDY DUNES PICK: STONEY CREEK 42, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 30.
LOCKE PICK: STONEY CREEK 28, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 21.
DUNLAP PICK: STONEY CREEK 24, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 17.
BURNEY PICK: STONEY CREEK 28, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 24.
STICK PICK: STONEY CREEK 24, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 14.
COTTER PICK: STONEY CREEK 26, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 21.
6. Seaholm at 2. Clarkston: Both of these teams are coming off statement wins on the road. The Wolves hammered Lake Orion 31-7 while the Maples needed a defensive stand forcing a touchback. That play changed momentum of the game. That play helped them to stun Groves for the second straight year 35-28. Seaholm threw the football only once in that win but they will need to throw more against a Clarkston defense that is very stout against the run. I don’t know how the Maples will handle all the pressure that will likely be up against them heading to Clarkston.
SANDY DUNES PICK: CLARKSTON 38, SEAHOLM 7.
LOCKE PICK: CLARKSTON over SEAHOLM.
DUNLAP PICK: CLARKSTON 27, SEAHOLM 10.
BURNEY PICK: CLARKSTON 30, SEAHOLM 20.
STICK PICK: CLARKSTON 28, SEAHOLM 14.
COTTER PICK: CLARKSTON 38, SEAHOLM 21.
Adams at 3. West Bloomfield: This looks like a complete mismatch on paper as the Highlanders head back to the Swamp to play the Lakers. West Bloomfield beat Oxford 45-0 last week while Adams has lost four of their last five games including last season’s first round playoff loss to Utica Eisenhower. The Highlanders lost 23-10 to Stoney Creek last week. As mentioned this could get very ugly between a very young team and a team that is starting to click on all cylinders.
SANDY DUNES PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 35, ADAMS 14.
LOCKE PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD over ADAMS.
DUNLAP PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD over ADAMS.
BURNEY PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 32, ADAMS 22.
STICK PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 28, ADAMS 14.
COTTER PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 34, ADAMS 14.
Bloomfield Hills at 4. Berkley: This might be the biggest game at Hurley Field since the regional final in 2015. The Bears survived by beating Troy Athens 22-20 on the road last week. They are 4-0 for the first time since 2014. Berkley is going to be tested by Tanner Slazinski. Slazinski could be the best quarterback that they have seen this season. The Blackhawks have lost two straight games including a 43-7 loss to Birmingham Brother Rice last week. This is shaping up to be a very interesting game.
SANDY DUNES PICK: BERKLEY 20, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 17.
LOCKE PICK: BERKLEY over BLOOMFIELD HILLS.
DUNLAP PICK: BERKLEY 24, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 23.
BURNEY PICK: BERKLEY 27, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 20.
STICK PICK: BERKLEY 28, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 27.
COTTER PICK: BERKLEY 24, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 21.
7. Ferndale at 5. Rochester: The Falcons are 4-0 for the first time since 1993 but being in the Blue helps this group. This game even though at home could be their biggest test of the season. The Eagles have done very well against in division foes but they haven’t done well against out of league foes. Rochester won 54-0 over Royal Oak last week. Ferndale won 28-7 over Troy. The Eagles have a lot to prove in this game but the Falcons control their own destiny in the Blue.
SANDY DUNES PICK: ROCHESTER 30, FERNDALE 23.
LOCKE PICK: ROCHESTER 28, FERNDALE 27.
DUNLAP PICK: ROCHESTER 42, FERNDALE 7.
BURNEY PICK: ROCHESTER 23, FERNDALE 21.
STICK PICK: ROCHESTER 42, FERNDALE 28.
COTTER PICK: ROCHESTER 35, FERNDALE 6.
Farmington at 8. Lake Orion: The Dragons offense has a ton of problems lately. They have only scored 14 points in two weeks which is not good. Lake Orion lost 31-7 to Clarkston last week. The Falcons have had a rough year which they have allowed over 35 points in each game this season. Farmington lost 38-14 to North Farmington last week. This looks to be a mismatch on paper.
SANDY DUNES PICK: LAKE ORION 31, FARMINGTON 0.
LOCKE PICK: LAKE ORION over FARMINGTON.
DUNLAP PICK: LAKE ORION 21, FARMINGTON 14.
BURNEY PICK: LAKE ORION 34, FARMINGTON 18.
STICK PICK: LAKE ORION 21, FARMINGTON 7.
COTTER PICK: LAKE ORION 42, FARMINGTON 0.
North Farmington at 9. Oxford: This is the first meeting since 2015 between these two schools. North Farmington retained the Farmington Jug with a 38-14 victory over Farmington on the road. The Raiders are 2-0 when they score at or over 30 points. Oxford is coming off a 45-0 road loss to West Bloomfield. They turned the football over five times in that game in the Swamp. The Wildcats can play any style and they have experience. There is a great quarterback matchup coming into this game between Jake Bosamara and Brady Carpenter along with a great coaching matchup between coaches Jon Herstein and Zach Line. This shaping up to be a very interesting game.
SANDY DUNES PICK: OXFORD 28, NORTH FARMINGTON 14.
LOCKE PICK: NORTH FARMINGTON over OXFORD.
DUNLAP PICK: OXFORD 28, NORTH FARMINGTON 21.
BURNEY PICK: OXFORD 25, NORTH FARMINGTON 21.
STICK PICK: OXFORD 21, NORTH FARMINGTON 20.
COTTER PICK: NORTH FARMINGTON 24, OXFORD 21.
10. Groves at Oak Park: This is a very interesting matchup of two former rivals in the White but they are both in different places. Oak Park won 26-14 over Groves last season in Knight Valley. The Knights have really struggled since moving up to the Red. Oak Park was blown out 33-6 against Southfield Arts and Tech in Knight Valley. The Falcons are coming off a heartbreaking 35-28 loss to Seaholm in Beverly Hills. This is shaping up to be a very interesting game back in Knight Valley.
SANDY DUNES PICK: GROVES 28, OAK PARK 21.
LOCKE PICK: GROVES over OAK PARK.
DUNLAP PICK: GROVES 31, OAK PARK 13.
BURNEY PICK: GROVES 31, OAK PARK 26.
STICK PICK: OAK PARK 20, GROVES 14.
COTTER PICK: GROVES 21, OAK PARK 12.
Royal Oak at Avondale: These are two teams that have the same playoff points coming into this game but these are two teams that are heading in opposite directions. The Yellow Jackets blew out Pontiac 66-2 while the Ravens were blown out 54-0 by Rochester last week. Avondale has more athletes than Royal Oak but then again from basketball last season the Ravens always found a way to win ugly. This is shaping up to be a very interesting game.
SANDY DUNES PICK: AVONDALE 56, ROYAL OAK 14.
LOCKE PICK: AVONDALE 28, ROYAL OAK 27.
DUNLAP PICK: AVONDALE 27, ROYAL OAK 20.
BURNEY PICK: AVONDALE 28, ROYAL OAK 27.
STICK PICK: AVONDALE 28, ROYAL OAK 21.
COTTER PICK: AVONDALE 35, ROYAL OAK 10.
Pontiac at Troy: This is shaping up to be an interesting game between the Phoenix and the Colts. Both teams have really struggled. Troy has only scored seven points in two weeks which included a 28-7 loss to Ferndale. Pontiac has scored only two points and that was last week against Avondale where they were blown out 66-2 at Wisner Stadium. This has the makings of a very interesting game at Don Colt Stadium.
SANDY DUNES PICK: TROY 9, PONTIAC 6.
LOCKE PICK: TROY 21, PONTIAC 7.
DUNLAP PICK: TROY 21, PONTIAC 10.
BURNEY PICK: TROY 33, PONTIAC 18.
STICK PICK: TROY 21, PONTIAC 14.
COTTER PICK: TROY 49, PONTIAC 6.
