Way too Early Basketball Rankings.

Written Saturday September 6th at 9:00 PM

Here are my way too early season Basketball ranks.

Boys

1. Clarkston- The Wolves will be a different team this winter but they will still be very good this season.

2. West Bloomfield-The Lakers have a lot of talent back but can they sustain it for coach Jeremy Dehna???

3. Lake Orion-The Dragons have a lot of talent back and the personal to match the very best for coach Jim Manzo.

4. Oak Park- Knights have the talent to make some noise for coach Bobby Thompson.

5. Adams-The Highlanders may be better than last season which says a lot for coach Brad Crighton.

6. Farmington- Falcons have the guards but question will be the interior for coach Terrance Porter.

7. Oxford- Wildcats have a ton of experience back for coach Steve Laidlaw. Oxford will be a factor in the Blue this season.

8. Ferndale- New Eagles coach Juan Rickman and his team will have a lot to say in the Blue race this year.

9. Troy- Colts are solid with the guards but post will be a question for coach Gary Fralick and his team.

10. Groves- Falcons have a new coach in Benny White and a ton of athletes. Wonder if this could work and if this does look out.

11. Avondale- Yellow Jackets have a ton of experience back for coach Tim Morton. This is a perfect darkhorse candidate in the White.

12. North Farmington- Raiders need to address their scoring from last season, they have a lot of players back for coach Todd Negoshian.

13. Pontiac- Phoenix could be a darkhorse candidate for coach Josh Schroeder in the Blue.

14. Royal Oak- Ravens have really improved and like Pontiac could be a sleeper in the Blue under coach Aaron Smith.

15. Southfield Arts and Tech- Warriors and coach Mike Avery are in an unusual place, not being in the Red. It’s going to feel odd at first but they’ll get use to life in the White.

16. Bloomfield Hills- Blackhawks will be a young team this year but they will compete for coach Phil Kurjain.

17. Stoney Creek- Cougars have the pieces to be a darkhorse in the White but can they sustain it, that will test coach Steve Norgrove.

18. Troy Athens- Red Hawks are very young for coach Dave Scott. It will take some time for them to develop.

19. Rochester- Life in the White will be tough for the Falcons and coach Vance Kirkwood this season.

20. Berkley- There is nowhere to go but up for the Bears after finishing 1-11 during the second half of the season last year for coach Joe Sermo.

21. Seaholm- The Maples and coach Greg DeGeeter need a bounce back season in the worst way.

22. Hazel Park- Vikings are starting all over again for new coach Stefan Wilson.

23. Harrison- Hawks are a mess in the team’s final season for coach Jareel Hogan.

Girls

1. Southfield Arts and Tech- Warriors are loaded this season but big problem will be the bench for coach Michelle Marshall and crew.

2. Royal Oak- Ravens have the majority of their team back for coach Brian Sopota but they need to toughen up their non conference schedule to see if they belong.

3. Bloomfield Hills- Blackhawks have the shooters and experience but question for coach Jeff Rubin will be is who will help Jordan Banks.

4. Lake Orion- Dragons could be the most dangerous team in the White now that coach Bob Brydges is at the helm.

5. West Bloomfield- When you have everybody back like the Lakers have for coach Bert Mosley then you don’t have to change much.

6. Oxford- Wildcats have a ton of experience back but size is a concern for coach Rachel Bryer and her team.

7. Stoney Creek- Team Finebaum’s non conference is brutal but coach Kellen James feels that his Cougars are ready for it.

8. Clarkston- Wolves have a new coach in John Weyer but he will have a different group of girls this season and a brutal non conference to go with it.

9. Adams- The Highlanders are going all in on the future this season but will it pay off in the short term for coach Shay Lewis???

10. North Farmington- It will be interesting now for coach Jeff Simpson without Sam Cherney but they have two solid guards that can fill the void.

11. Avondale- New Yellow Jackets coach Bob Lees has three solid players but depth and bench will be a big concern this season.

12. Troy- Colts have a ton of experience coming back, they could be a sleeper to watch in the White this season for coach Simon Bato.

13. Groves- Falcons are now up in the Red but it could be a tough time for coach Jessica Wiesler and her team.

14. Troy Athens- Red Hawks have some experience returning, they are looking to make that next step for coach Stacie Klumpp.

15. Rochester- New coach Jeff Haney returns and the Falcons should be better right away but the turmoil has to go away for this to work.

16. Seaholm- Maples should be Rochester’s top challenger in the Blue this season but they have an interim coach in Chris Manchester.

17. Farmington- Falcons lost a ton of talent, it could be a long season for coach Laura Guzman.

18. Berkley- Bears are going to be a possible darkhorse sleeper in the Blue but don’t know if I see them being better than the top two teams in their division for coach Kirk Carolan.

19. Hazel Park- Vikings are going to be very young after losing a ton of experience for coach Chad Ossman.

20. Oak Park- Knights don’t have a lot of size or depth to be a contender this season.

21. Pontiac- Phoenix have two promising players but they need to address mental mindset and depth for coach Christopher Wright.

22. Ferndale- It could be a long season for coach Christina Nagle and the Eagles.

My photo
I have highest function of autism (Asperger Syndrome.) I'm a huge Dallas Stars fan. I like to play and watch football, especially when the Dragons play on Friday nights. I am a 2006 alum and used to play football for the Dragons. I ran track, I ran the 100, 200, 400 meter dashes along with shot-put and discus. During my time in Orion I was a manager for Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team. I'm the volleyball, girls basketball, and football announcer for the team and do the book on the road for girls basketball. I do the clock for volleyball in the fall along with girls basketball in the winter and announce some boys basketball games as well. In the spring I coach shot-put at Scripps Middle School, in my fifth season coaching. I run the shot-put for high school meets. I played Special Olympics Basketball, I've won three gold medals for them. I host "Between Taorminas" which is on ONTV along with a podcast called "OAA Now". In other various things outside of Lake Orion, I love to jet ski over Saginaw Bay. Saginaw Bay is basically my life. I'm a trained weather spotter for the National Weather Service for Oakland and Huron counties.
