Berkley looking for new Girls Basketball Coach according to source.

Written Thursday September 30th at 12:20 PM

It looks like the Berkley girls basketball coaching position is up again.

It has been a very challenging month for Berkley which started when then Coach Kurt Carolan left Berkley and accepted an assistant coaching postion at Macomb Community College.

The Bears named Ben Bancroft to the position a few hours after Carolan left however some folks said that there wasn’t a formal process to the search.

According to my source there was a meeting between Berkley Athletic Coordinator Taylor Horn, the principal, and the superintendent a few days later. They said that the move to name Bancroft the coach was final.

Then my source emailed me that the coaching vacancy was open again and that an application was out for a new coach that was posted on September 29th. The job opening said that all applicants who are interested in coaching the program has until October 8th to submit their applications to Erin Haley. They will begin coaching interviews on October 11th.

I really don't know what happened if Bancroft resigned or something else, that's really not my place.

I haven’t reached out to Horn to talk about this matter. If he does comment and updates me I will have it on the blog.

It is getting really close to the start of the season which is only a month away. It will be very interesting to see what happens.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

Here is the job posting.

MR. SANDY DUNES 48-16

BURNEY 43-21

COTTER 51-13

TIM 46-18

DUNLAP 51-13

STICK 48-16

If Troy and or Harper Woods find games I will add them on here.

1. Adams at 7. North Farmington: The Raiders return home to Ron Holland Field after two tough losses to Oak Park and Rochester. North Farmington has had issues defensively in both losses in which they allowed 62 points in that span. The Highlanders are rolling right now led by quarterback Parker Picot. I’m wondering where that Raiders team from the Lake Orion and Groves games were because something doesn’t seem right with North Farmington.

MR SANDY DUNES: ADAMS 38, NORTH FARMINGTON 28.

BURNEY: ADAMS 32, NORTH FARMINGTON 28.

COTTER: ADAMS 31, NORTH FARMINGTON 14.

TIM: ADAMS 35, NORTH FARMINGTON 31.

DUNLAP: ADAMS 28, NORTH FARMINGTON 21.

STICK: ADAMS 38, NORTH FARMINGTON 20.

2. Clarkston at 3. West Bloomfield: This is a huge game for both teams and control of the Red is on the line on West Bloomfield’s homecoming. The Lakers are a much different team since their loss to Adams in the Swamp. The Wolves have been rolling and are currently unbeaten. Both teams were tested last week on the road. West Bloomfield survived Lake Orion 28-21 while Clarkston survived Oxford 20-17. This is shaping up to be a very interesting matchup in the Swamp. The Lakers should be motivated after last season when the Wolves won 23-20 in overtime. West Bloomfield used that loss as motivation and the rest was history.

MR SANDY DUNES: WEST BLOOMFIELD 27, CLARKSTON 24.

BURNEY: CLARKSTON 34, WEST BLOOMFIELD 31.

COTTER: WEST BLOOMFIELD 31, CLARKSTON 28.

TIM: CLARKSTON 28, WEST BLOOMFIELD 27.

DUNLAP: CLARKSTON 31, WEST BLOOMFIELD 24.

STICK: CLARKSTON 28, WEST BLOOMFIELD 21.

Avondale at 4. Berkley: This is shaping up to be a very interesting game at Hurley Field. The Bears need to be careful of a letdown after an emotional 31-20 victory over Troy Athens last week. The Yellow Jackets gained some confidence in beating Ferndale 21-0 last week. Avondale is not an easy team and they have athletes. Also it’s homecoming at Berkley. This might have upset potential written all over it.

MR SANDY DUNES: BERKLEY 42, AVONDALE 14.

BURNEY: BERKLEY 24, AVONDALE 16.

COTTER: BERKLEY 38, AVONDALE 6.

TIM: BERKLEY 28, AVONDALE 14.

DUNLAP: BERKLEY 28, AVONDALE 15.

STICK: BERKLEY 28, AVONDALE 14.

5. Stoney Creek at Lake Orion: This game has trap game written all over it for the Cougars. Stoney Creek is coming off an emotional 21-14 homecoming win over Southfield Arts and Tech last week. They head to Lake Orion and take on a Dragons team that has struggled defensively all season long. Lake Orion played better last week despite falling 28-21 to West Bloomfield. This is the Dragons pink game. It's be shaping up to be a low scoring defensive type game like it was in 2019.

MR SANDY DUNES: LAKE ORION 28, STONEY CREEK 14.

BURNEY: STONEY CREEK 33, LAKE ORION 23.

COTTER: STONEY CREEK 24, LAKE ORION 21.

TIM: LAKE ORION 21, STONEY CREEK 14.

DUNLAP: LAKE ORION 27, STONEY CREEK 24.

STICK: STONEY CREEK 21, LAKE ORION 20.

9. Bloomfield Hills at 10. Troy Athens: This is a huge game for both teams. The Blackhawks are 5-0 but really haven’t been tested since the Berkley game. The Red Hawks are coming off a 31-20 loss to Troy Athens but things have been heading in the right direction for them. Troy Athens needs this one to keep pace in the Blue with one loss. Bloomfield Hills if they win can eliminate Troy Athens from the league race. This is shaping up to be a very interesting game.

MR SANDY DUNES: TROY ATHENS 24, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 21.

BURNEY: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 27, TROY ATHENS 26.

COTTER: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 35, TROY ATHENS 21.

TIM: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 21, TROY ATHENS 17.

DUNLAP: TROY ATHENS 24, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 20.

STICK: TROY ATHENS 31, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 21.

6. Rochester at Groves: These are two birds that are heading in the right direction. The blue Falcons got that big one over North Farmington 32-27 last week at Stoney Creek. The green and gold Falcons have won two straight including a 22-14 overtime victory over Oak Park last week. The reason is Jaden Magnum is back which has been huge for Groves. This should be a very interesting game to watch in Beverly Hills.

MR SANDY DUNES: ROCHESTER 35, GROVES 31.

BURNEY: ROCHESTER 30, GROVES 21.

COTTER: GROVES 21, ROCHESTER 14.

TIM: ROCHESTER 28, GROVES 21.

DUNLAP: ROCHESTER 21, GROVES 10.

STICK: ROCHESTER 34, GROVES 14.

Oxford at Southfield Arts and Tech: This is a huge game for both teams when it comes to positioning in the Red. Both teams are coming off tough losses. The Wildcats have been playing really good football despite their 1-4 record. The Warriors are coming off a 21-14 loss to Stoney Creek last week. Southfield Arts and Tech is usually a pretty solid home team but they have had some struggles on the road. Oxford is improving each week and is gaining confidence by the minute.

MR SANDY DUNES: OXFORD 35, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 21.

BURNEY: OXFORD 28, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 18.

COTTER: OXFORD 38, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 28.

TIM: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 28, OXFORD 21.

DUNLAP: OXFORD 28, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 24.

STICK: OXFORD 24, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 21.

Royal Oak at Farmington: This is shaping up to be a very interesting game between the Ravens and Falcons on Shiawassee Road. Royal Oak had a week off. The question is will the week off help or will it hurt them??? Farmington is coming off a very disappointing 41-14 loss to Bloomfield Hills last week. Momentum favors the Ravens but it’s anyone’s game for sure.

MR SANDY DUNES: ROYAL OAK 34, FARMINGTON 31.

BURNEY: ROYAL OAK 23, FARMINGTON 20.

COTTER: FARMINGTON 21, ROYAL OAK 14.

TIM: ROYAL OAK 35, FARMINGTON 14.

DUNLAP: FARMINGTON 24, ROYAL OAK 21.

STICK: ROYAL OAK 27, FARMINGTON 20.

Seaholm at Oak Park: This is a big game for both teams coming into this week. The Knights are coming off a tough 22-14 overtime loss to Groves last week. The Maples are coming off a 35-0 blowout loss to Adams. Someone will win this week for sure.

MR SANDY DUNES: OAK PARK 30, SEAHOLM 7.

BURNEY: OAK PARK 33, SEAHOLM 26.

COTTER: OAK PARK 26, SEAHOLM 7.

TIM: OAK PARK 35, SEAHOLM 14.

DUNLAP: OAK PARK 20, SEAHOLM 6.

STICK: OAK PARK 21, SEAHOLM 7.

Ferndale at Walled Lake Western: This is shaping up to be an interesting matchup of two teams trying to find some confidence. The Eagles have really been struggling. They fell 21-0 to Avondale last week. The Warriors were upset by Milford 18-15 which that game saw three touchdowns in the last minute of play last week. Walled Lake Western looks like they are better team on paper and they have former Farmington coach Kory Cicroch on the sidelines. This should be an interesting game in Walled Lake.

MR SANDY DUNES: WALLED LAKE WESTERN 18, FERNDALE 12.

BURNEY: FERNDALE 25, WALLED LAKE WESTERN 22.

COTTER: WALLED LAKE WESTERN 42, FERNDALE 6.

TIM: WALLED LAKE WESTERN 28, FERNDALE 0.

DUNLAP: WALLED LAKE WESTERN 27, FERNDALE 13.

STICK: WALLED LAKE WESTERN 21, FERNDALE 20.

I have to be Better.

Written Sunday September 26th at 2:10 PM

I have to do better as a blogger and as a person.

The last week hasn’t been good for me.

I’ve let my emotions and opinions get the best of me which is never a good sign.

In sports journalism it’s always important to keep your emotions and opinions out of things. Sometimes it clouds your judgement which it has for me.

I’ve always wanted to be a podcaster and blogger which I am. I wanted to cover the OAA which I do. One of the premier conferences in the State of Michigan.

We all make mistakes and I’m owning up to mine. I don’t want to offend anybody but I feel like in the past week I have and to those who I offend I apologize.

I will do better with my sources and who it impacts.

I have too.

Life is full of learning experiences and this is a learning experience for me.

I encourage those who are interested in sports journalism and in my line of work to keep what you’re doing but research every fact and every detail and things will go your way.

I have to be better and I will be.
