Football Thoughts After Week Six.

Written Saturday October 5th at 10:45 AM

The OAA Football Season is well underway and in full swing. Here are my thoughts before heading to the Podcast room on Monday to analyze what has happened in two weeks around the league.

Adams: I was disappointed with the Highlanders performance on Friday night in the Swamp. Adams lost 30-6 to West Bloomfield sending their record to 4-2 on the season. The Highlanders still have to play Clarkston, Southfield Arts and Tech, and Stoney Creek. Adams could be in danger territory if they don’t fix their offensive woes (they have scored 50 points in three games.)

Lake Orion: The Dragons bounced back after their heartbreaking four overtime loss to West Bloomfield by blowing out Bloomfield Hills 42-6 on Friday night. Lake Orion sits at 5-1 on the season and will host Rochester on their homecoming next week.

West Bloomfield: The Lakers made a statement by beating a good Adams team 30-6 at the Swamp on their homecoming on Friday night. West Bloomfield running back Donovan Edwards scored three touchdowns, two rushing and one receiving against a stout defense. The Lakers sit at 5-1 on the season and will host Bloomfield Hills next week.

Clarkston: The Wolves are coming off a huge win by surviving Southfield Arts and Tech 22-21 in overtime on Friday night on their homecoming. Ethan Clark has been a huge addition for Clarkston. He scored the tying score in overtime and got the winning two point conversion. The Wolves sit at 3-3 and will travel to Adams for a huge game next week.

Oxford: The Wildcats lost on their homecoming 27-14 to Stoney Creek on Friday night. Oxford has a tough schedule looming with Southfield Arts and Tech this week followed by West Bloomfield and then Oak Park to close the season. It’s going to be tough for sure.

Southfield Arts and Tech: The Warriors suffered a tough 22-21 overtime loss to sit at 3-3. Southfield Arts and Tech still has a tough schedule if they want to make the playoffs. They host Oxford next week.

Bloomfield Hills: The Blackhawks are struggling sitting at 0-6 after losing 42-6 to Lake Orion last week. Bloomfield Hills has a tough one looming next week when they head to the Swamp to take on West Bloomfield.

Groves: The Falcons had no problem with Troy winning 49-0 sending their record to 5-1 on the season. Groves should have an interesting matchup next week with Stoney Creek.

Oak Park: The Knights bounced back after a rough game with Stoney Creek by beating Seaholm 41-21 in the Maple Forest to go 5-1 on the season. Oak Park will host Troy next week for homecoming.

Seaholm: The Maples have lost two straight after a 4-0 start falling 41-21 to Oak Park on Friday night sending their record to 4-2. Seaholm has to play Troy Athens, Groves, and Avondale to close out the season. They need to get things fixed and quick if they want to make the playoffs for the second straight season.

Stoney Creek: The Cougars are really improved after going into Oxford and beating the Wildcats 27-14 on their homecoming. Stoney Creek sits at 4-2 but they still has a tough schedule having to play Groves, Rochester, and Adams. If they win two of the three then a playoff berth for the first time since 2013 is in the cards.

Troy Athens: The Red Hawks bounced back in a huge way by beating Rochester 44-38 in triple overtime keeping their playoff hopes alive at 3-3. Troy Athens still has to play Oak Park and Pontiac Notre Dame Prep but right now this team is heading in the right direction.

Rochester: The Falcons suffered a tough 44-38 loss to Troy Athens on their homecoming Friday night. Rochester sits at 1-5 on the season and will head to Lake Orion next week.

Troy: The Colts still have not scored a point at all this season after a 49-0 loss to Groves on Friday night putting them at 0-6. Troy has to play Groves next week. Points could be hard to come by in the next few weeks for the Colts.

North Farmington: The Raiders sit at 6-0 for the first time since 1988 after beating Royal Oak 42-8. North Farmington is 6-0 for the first time since 1988. The Raiders will host Okemos next week.

Farmington: The Falcons will be a playoff team this season going into Auburn Hills and beating Avondale 51-24. Farmington sits at 6-0 on the season. They will go to Hurley Field next week to play Berkley.

Avondale: The Yellow Jackets had a bad third quarter which they gave up 24 points in a 51-24 loss to Farmington. Avondale sits at 3-3 on the season and they still have to play Ferndale next week and Seaholm to close out the season. The Yellow Jackets could be in some trouble.

Ferndale: The Eagles had a tough 8-0 loss to Allen Park falling to 2-4. Ferndale plays Avondale next week. It could be tough for the Eagles because they still have to play Birmingham Detroit Country Day to close out the season.

Berkley: It has been a long season for the Bears but they picked up their first win of the season as they beat Pontiac 48-6 on Friday night improving to 1-5 on the season. Any win is a good win in the OAA but Berkley will be tested again at Hurley Field when they host Farmington.

Royal Oak: I knew it was going to be a tough homecoming for the Ravens against North Farmington as Royal Oak fell 42-8 on Friday night. The Ravens sit at 1-5 will head to Wisner Stadium next week to take on Pontiac.

Pontiac: The Phoenix struggled on their homecoming falling to Berkley 48-6 on Friday night. Pontiac sits at 0-6 on the season. They will hope to get back on track as they play Royal Oak next week.
