There was an incident that took place on Thursday night in the Groves/Ferndale Girls Basketball game at Ferndale.
The game between the Falcons and Eagles was halted because of a on court fight between the two teams. Groves was up 67-4 and the mercy rule was in effect.
The players were separated by coaches and spectators quickly and the game was called.
There was an ejection of a Ferndale player in the third quarter of the game.
So far both sides are looking into the incident at seeing which players were involved in the fight. Ferndale Athletic Director Shaun Butler said to MIPrepZone via email. "We are in the process of reviewing the film and making our determination for our student athletes at this time."
Groves Athletic Director Tom Flynn has not seen the film but Falcons Girls Basketball Coach Amos Thompson did write an email also to MIPrepZone describing what happened. "The incident last evening is being reviewed. In reflection it was evident that frustration from a season that didn't go as planned. Both sides of players, administrators, coaches, and parents worked to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. In doing so it was mutually agreeable to end the game at that point. If there is anything that is additional we will find out following the review."
The Falcons currently lead the Gold division at 12-5 and 7-1 in the league while the Eagles are 2-12, and 0-8 in the league. Ferndale is a Class B School along with Hazel Park playing a lot of Class A teams.
Personal Thoughts.
Fighting in sports is wrong, even if tensions boil over in frustration its important for the student-athlete to keep their cool even when things go wrong or if their team is having a rough season. Now it's looking like both teams will now have suspensions coming because of this fight. It's unfortunate but there are consequences if you throw punches in a game.
Stay tuned to OAA Now for coverage on this situation.

About Me
- Saginaw Bay
- I have highest function of autism (Asperger Syndrome.) I'm a huge Dallas Stars fan. I like to play and watch football, especially when the Dragons play on Friday nights. I am a 2006 alum and used to play football for the Dragons. I ran track, I ran the 100, 200, 400 meter dashes along with shot-put and discus. During my time in Orion I was a manager for Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team. I'm the volleyball, girls basketball, and football announcer for the team and do the book on the road for girls basketball. I do the clock for volleyball in the fall along with girls basketball in the winter and announce some boys basketball games as well. In the spring I coach shot-put at Scripps Middle School, in my fifth season coaching. I run the shot-put for high school meets. I played Special Olympics Basketball, I've won three gold medals for them. I host "Between Taorminas" which is on ONTV along with a podcast called "OAA Now". In other various things outside of Lake Orion, I love to jet ski over Saginaw Bay. Saginaw Bay is basically my life. I'm a trained weather spotter for the National Weather Service for Oakland and Huron counties.
