Well it looks like the Kensington Lakes Athletic Association
has a new proposal in the works. According to an article written by Brad Emons
of Hometown Life the Kensington Lakes Athletic Association released a new proposal
saving the league from disbanding. This new proposal is called Proposal B. In
it is mentioned to make sure there is competitive balance and the distances
wouldn’t be that far. Here would be the proposal.
KLAA Proposal (B)
Kensington:
South- John Glenn, Wayne Memorial, Livonia Churchill,
Livonia Franklin
Central- Plymouth, Canton, Salem, Livonia Stevenson
Midwest- Milford, Pinckney, South Lyon, South Lyon East
Lakes:
North- Northville, Walled Lake Central, Walled Lake
Western, Walled Lake Northern
East- Novi, Lakeland, Waterford Mott, Waterford
Kettering
West- Grand Blanc, Brighton, Howell, Hartland
Right now this is the Current divisions they are currently in based on geographic.
Kensington:
South- John Glenn, Wayne Memorial, Livonia Churchill,
Livonia Franklin, Canton, Plymouth
Central- Livonia Stevenson, South Lyon, South Lyon
East, Northville, Novi, Salem
Lakes:
West- Pinckney, Hartland, Howell, Brighton, Grand
Blanc, Milford
North- Lakeland, Waterford Mott, Waterford Kettering,
Walled Lake Northern, Walled Lake Central, Walled Lake Western
Deep Details:
Under Proposal B, it will keep the two leagues in tact but there will be four schools in three divisions instead of four sixes that the current
league has.
There would be six league champions that would be crowned.
Novi and
Northville will be changing conferences from the Kensington to the Lakes
Conference while Pinckney and Milford will go from the Lakes to the Kensington
Conference.
Grand Blanc still would have to travel the most miles as
they are the farthest north school in Genesee County at 34 miles while Pinckney
travels the second most at 23 miles being they are in far western Livingston
County.
Why this will Pass???
This proposal saves the league from disbanding. It creates
new rivalries and keeps the geographic format in place along with competitive balance.
It’s not the perfect plan but it’s the best plan the league
has in place.
There are schools that benefit from this proposal. Milford benefits
because they go to South Lyon and Pinckney and also the Plymouth schools
(Plymouth, Canton, and Salem) would all be together in one division as well.
There are benefits for those five schools.
Why this has Disaster in the Making???
What happens if Proposal B fails, it opens up disbanding
which means a few schools could be OAA bound. Remember for this proposal to pass
there has to be a three-fourths majority voted by the school principals.
I’m not sure if Waterford Kettering, Waterford Mott, or
Lakeland want Novi to come into their league because Novi is a Volleyball,
Girls Basketball, and Football power. The Wildcats are one of the main powers
in the league and I can see beef why those three schools don’t want to see Novi
in their division. The Wildcats will have to travel an hour more to get to Waterford
and White Lake on a consistent basis.
Same with Northville, the Mustangs are not sure if this proposal
will work??? If Proposal B is approved then Northville will have to go to Walled
Lake for league games. The Mustangs will beat everybody in Volleyball and Girls
Basketball. In football it could be interesting as all four teams are very
good. Not sure if the Walled Lake Schools would like that idea of getting beat
by Northville on a consistent basis.
Novi and Northville are border rivals and will want to continue playing each other on a consistent basis and this proposal might eliminate that possibility along with other rivalries.
Thoughts:
I don't think this will pass but if this passes it would be barely. I'm not sold on Northville going along with this decision because of travel and the Walled Lake schools could be up an arms over this proposal with having to see Northville on a consistent basis. Waterford Kettering and Waterford Mott won't be pleased wanting to see Novi in their division on a consistent basis because Novi is a consistent Volleyball and Girls Basketball power. Lakeland probably will also see fits as well if Novi were to join this division, the Eagles won't compete with them.
PROJECTED BUT NOT ACCURATE WHERE EACH SCHOOL MIGHT VOTE ON PROP B:
Remember for this to pass, it needs three fourths approved from the principals.
