OAA Picks Week Seven.

Written Monday October 3rd at 10:50 PM

SAMMY 63-30
ANT 62-31
KEITH 64-29
SEAN 62-31
DAN 61-32
BURNEY 65-28

2. Adams @ 1. Groves:

This matchup could be a heavyweight street fight in Beverly Hills. The Falcons have had to survive numerous close calls and got a forfeit win over West Bloomfield in the process. Groves still has a tough schedule to close out the season when they go to Saline in two weeks. The Highlanders have also been battle tested and do have a loss on their record (44-43 overtime) to Oak Park but they too have been rolling lately. The Falcons will be tested against the same pistol veer offense that Seaholm ran against them a few weeks ago but Adams is a little bit better at running this type of the pistol veer offense.

SAMMY PICK: ADAMS 24, GROVES 21.
ANT PICK: GROVES 24, ADAMS 14.
KEITH PICK: GROVES 17, ADAMS 14.
DAN PICK: ADAMS 21, GROVES 20.
SEAN PICK: GROVES 14, ADAMS 10.
BURNEY PICK: GROVES 27, ADAMS 24

9. Harrison @ 3. Oak Park:

This matchup is far different from their wild 60-52 game in 2013 but the Hawks have suffered two heartbreaking losses to Adams 21-9 and Groves 14-7 in overtime. Now Harrison sits at 3-3 needing a must win to keep their season alive. They still have to go to Oxford to close the season. The Knights were in the same position as the Hawks last week needing a win against a solid football team to save their season and they got it by beating Clarkston 14-7. Oak Park still has to go to Southfield Arts and Tech to close its season out but this one will be a classic like it always has been.

SAMMY PICK: OAK PARK 21, HARRISON 14.
ANT PICK: OAK PARK 18, HARRISON 14.
KEITH PICK: OAK PARK 16, HARRISON 13.
DAN PICK: HARRISON 24, OAK PARK 21.
SEAN PICK: OAK PARK 12, HARRISON 7.
BURNEY PICK: OAK PARK 30, HARRISON 23.

4. Bloomfield Hills @ Pontiac Notre Dame Prep:

We are finally into October and we’ll know a lot about the Blackhawks in these next three weeks with this game along with Berkley and Orion. Bloomfield Hills had a test with Ferndale early in the season with the Blackhawks winning 23-20 a few weeks ago but let’s see how they do against a team in the Irish that has beaten Berkley 26-3 but lost to Rochester 38-32 in overtime. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep will be a tough matchup for Bloomfield Hills because it’s in Pontiac and the Irish have some athletes that can give the Blackhawks trouble.

SAMMY PICK: PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 28, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 14.
ANT PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 28, PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 21.
KEITH PICK: PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 21, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 20.
DAN PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 28, PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 20.
SEAN PICK: PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 28, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 21.
BURNEY PICK: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 28, PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 27.

Hazel Park @ 5. Ferndale:

The Eagles could be well on their way toward a possible playoff berth with a favorable schedule going forward but I am a little concerned about the game with the Thunderbirds of Dearborn Edsel Ford despite the game being at Ferndale. The Eagles sent a statement by beating Madison Heights Madison 21-6 on Saturday afternoon. Hazel Park made headlines with the possibility that they could leave the OAA soon but the Vikings were crushed 39-6 by Avondale last week. This could be a long game for Hazel Park and it’s odd because Ferndale is smaller than Hazel Park when it comes to school size.

SAMMY PICK: FERNDALE 35, HAZEL PARK 21.
ANT PICK: FERNDALE 28, HAZEL PARK 24.
KEITH PICK: FERNDALE 35, HAZEL PARK 14.
DAN PICK: FERNDALE 21, HAZEL PARK 14.
SEAN PICK: FERNDALE 49, HAZEL PARK 14.
BURNEY PICK: FERNDALE 33, HAZEL PARK 20.

T-10. West Bloomfield @ 6. Clarkston:

The Lakers won the Red last season going unbeaten in the regular season before losing to Novi in the playoffs last season. This season has been a challenge for West Bloomfield as they are 3-3, needing this game just to make the playoffs. The Lakers have a very tall task of going to Clarkston to take on a Wolves team that not only lost 14-7 to Oak Park last week but the same team West Bloomfield got their greatest win against last season winning 35-21. Clarkston sits at 4-2, needing this one if they want to make it one step closer to the playoffs. They have a tough schedule to close out the season with this game, Orion next week, and Adams after that. Wolves coach Kurt Richardson put his team on notice after their 14-7 loss to the Knights that they need to get better fast. The Lakers will be desperate in this game for their playoff lives. If they win this game, then they are in the playoffs no questions asked.

SAMMY PICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD 28, CLARKSTON 27.
ANT PICK: CLARKSTON 38, WEST BLOOMFIELD 35.
KEITH PICK: CLARKSTON 28, WEST BLOOMFIELD 24.
DAN PICK: CLARKSTON 24, WEST BLOOMFIELD 21.
SEAN PICK: CLARKSTON 35, WEST BLOOMFIELD 14.
BURNEY PICK: CLARKSTON 27, WEST BLOOMFIELD 23.

7. Orion @ Seaholm:

The Maples under coach Jim DeWald has ran a pistol veer offense since he arrived in Birmingham. Seaholm has been a program that has had its ups and downs since moving up to the White from the Blue. They exploded offensively last week against North Farmington scoring 41 points in a 41-14 blowout on 13 Mile Road in Farmington Hills. It’s the Maples homecoming this week. I don’t know if you want to be playing Orion on your homecoming. They won on Troy Athens homecoming 47-14 last week. The Dragons have never seen a team that has ran a pistol veer option this season but they are coming into this game winning three straight games since their 1-2 start. The main reason why Orion is playing well is because of their offense. Since scoring 52 against the Wildcats, Orion has scored 68 points in its last two games, both on the road. The Dragons offense is clicking right now but can it hold up against the Maples in the Maple Forest? Seaholm has been treating this game like Orion is Brother Rice and the Maples lost 26-3 to the Warriors early in the season. This is the first meeting between these two teams since 1999. This will be interesting to watch.

SAMMY PICK: ORION 49, SEAHOLM 14.
ANT PICK: ORION 49, SEAHOLM 7.
KEITH PICK: ORION 42, SEAHOLM 7.
DAN PICK: ORION 31, SEAHOLM 14.
SEAN PICK: ORION 42, SEAHOLM 7.
BURNEY PICK: ORION 34, SEAHOLM 22.

8. Berkley at Troy:

This will be the Colts homecoming game as they have been finding ways to get big wins lately which included last week's 28-21 win over Rochester at Stoney Creek. Troy hasn't won at home since 2013 when they beat Lathrup 27-0 and the Chargers are now merged with Southfield to become Southfield Arts and Tech. Troy has been struggling finding an identity along with injuries as well. They will be facing a Bears team that was at a crossroads last week but they found their mojo back when they beat Pontiac 48-0 last week. Berkley has not been afraid to face the big schools and they will be facing a big school in the Colts. Also, there is a storyline here as Dominic Morrelli will face his former team. Morrelli played running back and was a defensive back last season for Troy and now he is that for Berkley. Expect Morelli to have a big game here on the Colts homecoming against his former mates.

SAMMY PICK: BERKLEY 28, TROY 14.
ANT PICK: BERKLEY 20, TROY 17.
KEITH PICK: TROY 24, BERKLEY 17.
DAN PICK: BERKLEY 28, TROY 14.
SEAN PICK: TROY 28, BERKLEY 14.
BURNEY PICK: BERKLEY 29, TROY 21.

Stoney Creek @ T-10. Southfield Arts and Tech:

Last Friday was an emotional day for the Warriors, they had the Kara Allen funeral and then they had to go to the Swamp knowing that their playoff hopes were on the line and got a huge 33-14 win over West Bloomfield keeping their playoff hopes alive for another week. Southfield Arts and Tech still has a tough schedule with a home game against arch rival Oak Park to end the season and a trip to Oxford next week. The Warriors last home game was when they lost 21-14 to Orion two weeks ago, something that Southfield Arts and Tech players want to get rid of the bad taste in their mouths. They should cruse this week against a Stoney Creek team that is struggling to score and stop someone. The Cougars were shutout 26-0 by Oxford last week and have been giving up 92 points in their last three games since beating Troy Athens 35-7. These two teams scrimmaged each other to start the season at Stoney Creek. This game is a total mismatch on paper and also athlete wise, this won’t be close.

SAMMY PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 35, STONEY CREEK 0.
ANT PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 38, STONEY CREEK 0.
KEITH PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 35, STONEY CREEK 7.
DAN PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 28, STONEY CREEK 21.
SEAN PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 35, STONEY CREEK 0.
BURNEY PICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 30, STONEY CREEK 20.

Troy Athens @ Oxford:

The Wildcats finally return home to the blue turf after a month-long road trip that saw them win their last two games over Farmington and Stoney Creek by a combined 52-21 since giving up 52 to Orion three weeks ago. Oxford will see a Troy Athens team that was depleted on their homecoming. The Red Hawks lost two quarterbacks to injury against the Dragons and lost 47-14 last week. Joey Stark, the team’s starting quarterback did not play because he got concussed against Clarkston two weeks ago. Expect Stark to play in this matchup, if he doesn't then Troy Athens is in big trouble. I expect Ethan Williams to go off again like he did against the Cougars going for 23 carries for 209 yards and three touchdowns. Oxford should also be motivated because last season the Red Hawks shut out the Wildcats 28-0 on the blue turf. It could be the Ethan Williams show again at the expense of Troy Athens and the Wildcats will enjoy their homecoming. The next two games on the blue turf could be interesting with Southfield Arts and Tech and Harrison coming to Oxford.

SAMMY PICK: OXFORD 38, TROY ATHENS 0.
ANT PICK: OXFORD 28, TROY ATHENS 14.
KEITH PICK: OXFORD 31, TROY ATHENS 14.
DAN PICK: OXFORD 24, TROY ATHENS 14.
SEAN PICK: OXFORD 42, TROY ATHENS 14.
BURNEY PICK: OXFORD 32, TROY ATHENS 28.

North Farmington @ Farmington:

The Farmington Cup returns back to Farmington this week since the Raiders took it from the Falcons last season in a dramatic 26-21 win last season at the same field. Both teams give up a ton of points, both teams can’t score, and technically neither of them have a win despite the Falcons having that forfeit win over Walled Lake Western but anyway the Farmington Cup is on the line here and the Falcons want that trophy back to 32000 Shiawassee Street but North Farmington will do everything they can to keep the trophy on 32900 West 13 Mile Road. This one will be interesting, Farmington has the better team here but we said that last year and look what happened.

SAMMY PICK: NORTH FARMINGTON 30, FARMINGTON 28.
ANT PICK: NORTH FARMINGTON 24, FARMINGTON 23.
KEITH PICK: FARMINGTON 24, NORTH FARMINGTON 21.
DAN PICK: FARMINGTON 14, NORTH FARMINGTON 7.
SEAN PICK: FARMINGTON 35, NORTH FARMINGTON 14.
BURNEY PICK: FARMINGTON 35, NORTH FARMINGTON 17.

Avondale @ Pontiac:

The Yellow Jackets finally got their first win under Ed Cortuier when they destroyed Hazel Park 39-6 last week. Avondale used the triple option offense to perfection against the Vikings in that game. The Yellow Jackets will go back on the road again, only it will be a short trip to Wisner Stadium to take on a Phoenix team that has really been struggling. Pontiac lost 48-0 to Berkley last week. Things may finally be looking up for Avondale.

SAMMY PICK: AVONDALE 38, PONTIAC 6.
ANT PICK: AVONDALE 35, PONTIAC 0.
KEITH PICK: AVONDALE 31, PONTIAC 7.
DAN PICK:  AVONDALE 20, PONTIAC 7.
SEAN PICK: AVONDALE 42, PONTIAC 6.
BURNEY PICK: AVONDALE 28, PONTIAC 18.

Royal Oak vs Rochester @ Stoney Creek:

The Ravens have been far beyond a disappointment in my book. Royal Oak sits at 2-4 on the season, not going to the playoffs but they can ruin someone else season in Rochester. The Falcons will have an extra day in between to get prepared for Royal Oak. Rochester sits at 3-3 and needs to win out to get win number six even though they have a favorable schedule. The Falcons are the favorites in this game but they were the favorites last week and look what happened to them, they lost to Troy 28-21. What Raven and Falcon teams show up here?

SAMMY PICK: ROCHESTER 27, ROYAL OAK 14.
ANT PICK: ROCHESTER 24, ROYAL OAK 17.
KEITH PICK: ROCHESTER 34, ROYAL OAK 20.
DAN PICK: ROCHESTER 28, ROYAL OAK 14.
SEAN PICK: ROCHESTER 21, ROYAL OAK 14.
BURNEY PICK: ROCHESTER 34, ROYAL OAK 31.
