It was a shocking to say the least but this decision came out of nowhere.
Clarkston coach John Weyer confirmed on Twitter and Facebook that he was stepping down as the Girls Varsity Basketball Coach of the Wolves.
Weyer wrote on Twitter and Facebook explaining his decision.
“Clarkston family,
It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you all that I will not be returning as the Clarkston Girls Basketball Coach. The demands of my career, especially the change in my work hours has made it impossible for me to provide the level and care that our student athletes deserve.
I will forever cherish the memories we have made and I look forward to watching the amazing things this team will do. I would like to thank our administration, the athletic department, and Mr. (Jeff) Kosin for believing in me and supporting me these last three years. I would also like to thank those parents that provided support.
To our athletes, I want to thank you for giving everything you could to our program and I’m only a phone call away. I believe in you. Lastly, I want to thank my family for giving me the love I needed especially when I was too busy or stressed to reciprocate. To my supporting wife Staci, thank you for giving of your husband and yourself, it is only because of you that I was able to help make a positive impact on these young lives.”
Weyer was very good in his three years at Clarkston. He has won two district titles and has carried the Wolves tradition of having great teams since coming over from PR1DE.
Thoughts.
I’ll admit, I was shocked when hearing about Weyer stepping down from coaching. I look at everything that he has done and it has been the right way at Clarkston. He will be missed for sure.
I can see Kosin likely keeping this in house like he did with the volleyball program in naming Alison Smith to take over the program but it would be very interesting to see who Kosin goes with.
Clarkston has Maddy Skourpski, Izzy Hadley, Sophia Walker, Emerson Wood, Keira Tomlie, Ryan Bordogna, and Ava Hernandez coming back. They will be in the Red next season as well. Program strength is also strong as well.
