The Warriors will have a new head coach this winter in Boys Basketball to which tryouts start on Monday.
Mike Avery has stepped down from coaching at Southfield Arts and Tech this season and the Warriors have a new coach to replace him but we do not know who he is as of yet.
Avery coached at Southfield-Lathrup and Southfield High when the school merged to become Southfield Arts and Tech to which it was a no brainier that he would be the guy.
Avery's biggest win as head coach was in 2017 his Warriors went into Clarkston and stunned the Wolves 64-60 in February that season.
Southfield Arts and Tech had a rough season last year and has Terrell Humes and Cameron McEvans back along with seven seniors and three juniors. This season, the Warriors moved down from the Red to the White and will compete against Farmington, Adams, Troy Athens, Stoney Creek, Rochester, Avondale, and Groves. They will be in a tough district with Oak Park, Detroit Renaissance, Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit, Detroit Mumford, and Redford Union.
Thoughts.
I was surprised that Avery resigned from coaching the Warriors. I thought he would embrace the challenge of possibly contending for a league championship but it wasn't meant to be. Southfield Arts and Tech should be good this season with a ton of experience coming back.
Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.
