Could Pontiac Close???

The State of Michigan has a consent agreement with the Pontiac School District that was set up three years ago, after the State found that the school district had financial distress.

That consent agreement is up this year.

The Pontiac School District before the consent agreement had a budget deficit of $51 million but they have gotten it down to $25 million the last three years.

It is confirmed that Pontiac High School by the end of the school year could close as they are now on the list of schools because of low test scores and academic performance. They are one of the 38 lowest performing schools set by the State of Michigan's Reform Office.

Pontiac School District officials have said to the Oakland Press that they know their High School will be on the bottom of the list when it comes to test scores but they don’t believe that the school will be closing its doors.

There was a rally of 20-40 people in attendance at Pontiac on Wednesday afternoon rallying against the possible closure of their school.

If Pontiac High School were to close this could have a huge impact not only in High School sports. It would be a big loss for the league if they were to close at the end of the year.
