BIG WIN: Southfield Arts and Tech. The Warriors
without their star quarterback exploded in the second half scoring 28 unanswered
points to stun Oak Park 28-14 at Southfield. The Warriors automatically clinched
a playoff spot at 6-3 but could very well hit the road for their first playoff
game. We’ll see what happens with them. This is a tough loss for the Knights
but the playoffs loom next week and Oak Park will be there.
TOUGH LOSS: Royal Oak. The Ravens had a chance to
take Berkley out of the playoffs but instead Royal Oak let the Bears off the
hook for a 21-14 win. The win by Berkley sends them to the playoffs for the
second straight season. The Ravens finished the season at 2-7, a huge setback
compared to the high expectations they were expected to have.
TEAM THAT NEEDS A HUG: Avondale. The Yellow Jackets
finished the season the best 3-6 team in the State and they gave Almont all
they can handle on Friday night. Almont escaped with a 40-34 win in Auburn Hills
clinching a playoff spot in the process. Next season guaranteed the Yellow
Jackets will be a playoff team.
WHAT HAPPENED: Rochester. The Falcons playoff hopes
took a major hit on Friday night at the hands of Stoney Creek as Rochester was
no match for the Cougars as Stoney Creek beat Rochester 40-14 giving a big win
for coach Bob Lantzy’s team heading into the offseason. Last season it was the
Falcons that kept the Cougars out of the playoffs, could Stoney Creek return
the favor, it’s possible.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME: Orion. The Dragons offense has
not been good in the final two weeks of the season but may have turned for the
worse on Friday night. Orion was shut out 21-0 by Bloomfield Hills sending
their record to 5-4. If the Dragons get into the playoffs then they must fix
their offense quickly but if not then it’s the third straight season Orion hasn’t
made the playoffs.
