The Berkley Bears have their new Boys Basketball coach for the 2016-2017 season in Joe Sermo.
Sermo was named Bears Boys Basketball coach on May 28th replacing David McGlown whom left the program due to family reasons.
Sermo is a teacher at Berkley High School and was an assistant last season. He played basketball as well and went to Berkley as a student. Sermo joins a proud list of coaches who coached at their high school with Steve Roberts, and Jim Manzo at Orion, Tom Staton at Ferndale, Brad Crighton at Adams, and Dan Fife at Clarkston.
The Bears should be very competitive in the Gold but will have a tough challenge in dealing with Farmington this season in the division.
Thoughts:
I like the move to tab Sermo as the next coach of the Bears, proud family man and a good coach. Being a former player helps as well and knowing the community helps as well.
Berkley will have a young team this season and with Sermo in charge, he will be the man for the job.
Berkley will open the season at home against Madison Heights Bishop Foley on December 6th.
