James takes over in Rochester.

Written Monday September 14th at 11:45 PM.

Stoney Creek has it's girls basketball coach to replace Brad Crighton.

Kellen James was hired to replace Crighton as the new head coach of the Cougars last week.

James was the Junior Varsity coach for three seasons and top assistant to Crighton. He is well known around the basketball ranks including top coaches such as Adams boys basketball coach John Hall, North Farmington assistant coach Tom Negoshian, and Oxford girls basketball coach Steve Emert.

James will return two starters back in Ally Voss and Emily Solek. Voss is a tall, lengthy player and is a three point threat. Solek is a hard worker and is expected to be huge this season. He will rely on these two to carry the Cougars.

Stoney Creek has won six straight district titles but winning number seven could be difficult as the Cougars are in a tough district at Utica with Adams, Rochester, Utica, and Utica Eisenhower. The Red will be very difficult for Stoney Creek as Harrison, Lathrup, Clarkston, Adams, and Oxford are also in the league as well.

I think it's a good move to make James the head coach. He was already there coaching the girls in the summer and is the perfect fit for those girls in Rochester. James will get the best of his girls this season and expect them to compete and be in every game. Size is a huge concern heading into the season for Stoney Creek so they may have to work harder to get their points and get them they will.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for updates.
