Duane Graves suddenly resigned on Thursday after allegations that he slapped a player and criticized another player for having "nappy hair" at practice on Wednesday night.
Graves apologized to both of the players and reported the violation to district administrators. He offered his resignation effective immediately. He said to Oakland Press MIPrepzone High School Coordinator Keith Dunlap saying he was resigning for personal reasons.
"It's time for me to move on. I have a 12 year old son who is becoming a man and I get to be there for him. I'm not done coaching but I am done this year" Graves said to Dunlap in a phone interview.
Graves a 1994 graduate at Lake Orion, coached at Bloomfield Hills Lahser for five seasons (including this season) before Lahser merged with Bloomfield Hills Andover to become Bloomfield Hills. In the first season of the merged school, the Blackhawks would go to the State Finals before losing to Muskegon.
Blackhawks freshman coach Nick Stration will coach the Varsity and will coach both teams for the rest of the season.
Graves leaves Bloomfield Hills with a 74-35 record. His former team will move on without him as they will travel to Clarkston to face the unbeaten Wolves. "They will be good. Give them some time and they will be able to do some good things" Graves concluded.

- I have highest function of autism (Asperger Syndrome.) I'm a huge Dallas Stars fan. I like to play and watch football, especially when the Dragons play on Friday nights. I am a 2006 alum and used to play football for the Dragons. I ran track, I ran the 100, 200, 400 meter dashes along with shot-put and discus. During my time in Orion I was a manager for Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team. I'm the volleyball, girls basketball, and football announcer for the team and do the book on the road for girls basketball. I do the clock for volleyball in the fall along with girls basketball in the winter and announce some boys basketball games as well. In the spring I coach shot-put at Scripps Middle School, in my fifth season coaching. I run the shot-put for high school meets. I played Special Olympics Basketball, I've won three gold medals for them. I host "Between Taorminas" which is on ONTV along with a podcast called "OAA Now". In other various things outside of Lake Orion, I love to jet ski over Saginaw Bay. Saginaw Bay is basically my life. I'm a trained weather spotter for the National Weather Service for Oakland and Huron counties.
