Detroit Public School League Holiday Classic

BLOOMFIELD HILLS 54, Detroit Northwestern 51

The Blackhawks needed eight three pointers to survive Detroit Northwestern 54-51 on Thursday morning at Detroit Cass Tech. It was a game of runs on both sides in which Bloomfield Hills had the lead for most of the game but Detroit Northwestern answered every time to make the game close and keep pressure on the Blackhawks. Bloomfield Hills made just enough plays to bounce back after their tough loss at Traverse City West to head to the break on a positive note.

Cosmo Holiday Classic

Detroit Collegiate Prep beat HAZEL PARK

The Vikings continued their struggling ways in the Cosmo Holiday Classic. Hazel Park has struggled to adjust under new coach Stefan Wilson. The Vikings will have a chance to get their first win of the season when they play Center Line on Friday.

HAZEL PARK 42, Center Line 41

The Vikings bounced back by earning a one point win over Center Line on Friday night at Hamtramck. Hazel Park will head into the new year riding with a ton of confidence after getting their first win post the Brendan Barrett era.

North Farmington Showcase

Walled Lake Northern 52, STONEY CREEK 41

The Cougars fresh off a very tough loss to Avondale last week had a tough task with the undefeated Knights of Walled Lake Northern. Stoney Creek could not overcome the balance of the Knights at North Farmington on Friday night. The Cougars will head to the holiday break with some work to do.

Plymouth Canton 50, NORTH FARMINGTON 45

The Raiders have lost two of their last three games including a loss to Plymouth Canton on Friday night. The schedule will get tougher for North Farmington heading into the new year. The Raiders have a lot of work to do going forward.

Washtenaw County Classic

Ann Arbor Huron 52, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 45

The Warriors couldn't overcome Ann Arbor Huron whom was playing a back to back on Saturday afternoon in Ypsilanti. Southfield Arts and Tech has lost two straight heading into the new year which is something they need to fix moving forward.

St. Clair Community College Showcase

Macomb Dakota 61, WEST BLOOMFIELD 59

The Lakers battled back from an 18 point halftime deficit only to tie the game up late but it was a last second shot by Macomb Dakota that beat West Bloomfield on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers are going to be fine going forward especially with when they had 54 of the team's 59 points from their star guards, they are legit for sure.

Motor City Roundball Classic (Boys)

Ann Arbor Huron 53, TROY 48

When you have Brody Parker and Clay Sebastian combine for 42 of the Colts 48 points which is not a good recipe to win and it showed against Ann Arbor Huron at Ferndale. Troy will move on and play Novi in January before going back into league play.

Chicago Orr 69, FERNDALE 61

The Eagles did not have enough in the fourth quarter in a back and fourth game with Chicago Orr the two time Illinois State Champions but Ferndale gave a strong showing on Friday night on their home floor against a good opponent. The Eagles are starting to get their transfers into play and expect them to be better later in the season and especially in the postseason.

TROY ATHENS 47, Madison Heights Bishop Foley 40

The Red Hawks picked up a huge victory snapping a three game losing streak on Saturday afternoon. Troy Athens has had a tough start but beating the Ventures should help them heading into the future and back into league play.

ADAMS 45, Dearborn Divine Child 43

The Highlanders had an uneasy third quarter against Dearborn Divine Child but found a way in the fourth quarter to beat them on Sunday afternoon at Ferndale. Adams is 5-0 with their players back fully healthy which will be huge going forward for this team.

Motor City Roundball Classic (Girls)

Port Huron 80, OAK PARK 32

What happened to the Knights against the Big Reds??? Port Huron held Oak Park to zero fourth quarter points and it was a complete blowout at Warren Lincoln on Thursday afternoon. The Knights were outmatched in this one. Oak Park will get back into league play hoping to turn things around.

Jackson 73, PONTIAC 24

It wasn't a good day for the Phoenix as they were blown out by Jackson on Thursday afternoon. Pontiac was just outmatched in this contest against a good Vikings team. The Phoenix should be fine going forward though heading into league play.

SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 59, Chicago Wendell Phillips 44

The Warriors used the combo of Cheyenne McEvans and Alexis Johnson in their victory over Chicago Wendell Phillips on Friday night. McEvans had 22 points for Southfield Arts and Tech. The Warriors will head into the new year riding with confidence.

Macomb L’Anse Creuse North 49, NORTH FARMINGTON 36

The Raiders had a tough loss to Macomb L'Anse Creuse North on Sunday night at Warren Lincoln. North Farmington will need to address some things heading into the new year which knowing them they will get it fixed.

Sterling Heights Parkway Christian Tournament

Allen Park Cabrini 50, HAZEL PARK 29

The Vikings did not fare well falling to the Monarchs 50-29 at Sterling Heights Parkway Christian on Thursday afternoon. Allen Park Cabrini took advantage of Hazel Park's lack of depth in the game. The Vikings will play at Sterling Heights Parkway Christian on Friday.

Sterling Heights Parkway Christian 50, HAZEL PARK 29

The Vikings lost 50-29 to Allen Park Cabrini on Thursday but lost ironically by the same score to Sterling Heights Parkway Christian in the constellation game on Friday. Hazel Park will need to bounce back heading into the new year to get things turned around.

Bloomfield Hills Holiday Showcase

Chandler Park Academy 71, CLARKSTON 45

The Wolves were no match for Highland Park Chandler Park Academy on Friday morning. Clarkston had a hard time getting things going and it got ugly from there. The Wolves should be fine moving forward in a tough Red.

WEST BLOOMFIELD 66, NORTH FARMINGTON 43

The Lakers used three point shooting to their advantage against the Raiders which got them a big victory on Friday afternoon. West Bloomfield led throughout the game and got balance scoring. North Farmington battled back cutting the lead to five at one point but the Lakers experience and three point shooting increased the lead thus giving them the game. The Raiders play Macomb L'Anse Creuse North on Sunday while West Bloomfield heads into the new year with confidence.

GROVES 44, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep 39

The Falcons picked up their first win of the season against Pontiac Notre Dame Prep on Friday afternoon. Groves led throughout but the Fighting Irish cut the lead to one point a couple of times but the Falcons had to survive late. Groves will head into the new year with some confidence moving forward.

ROYAL OAK 57, River Rouge 43

The Ravens dominated against River Rouge. River Rouge also played in the back end of a back to back. Royal Oak might have found some guard play in Nila Conley whom had 21 points for the Ravens. Royal Oak will have a boatload of confidence heading into the new year. 

Royal Oak Shrine 46, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 37

This was a upset or sorts on the Blackhawks home court on Friday night. Bloomfield Hills trailed by as many as 15 points but couldn't overcome Royal Oak Shrine. The Blackhawks tried to come back but couldn't pull through. Bloomfield Hills was exposed in some sorts. It will be interesting to see how they respond moving forward.

Inside the OAA Top 23 Boys and Girls Basketball Rankings.

Here are my rankings heading into the Christmas and New Year Break. The records will be updated as mentioned with the holiday tournaments looming forward.

Girls

1. Southfield Arts and Tech (4-1): Warriors no doubt the best team in the OAA with big non conference wins. They could be a special group come March.

2. Stoney Creek (4-1): Really like where “Team Finebaum” is at right now. Cougars are in a groove right now.

3. Royal Oak (6-0): Ravens haven’t been that impressive lately especially against Clarkston and Royal Oak Shrine. The Royal Oak Shrine game has me concerned with this team right now.

4. West Bloomfield (4-1): Mya Bobo is the real deal for the Lakers. She is the reason why West Bloomfield is where they are at.

5. Bloomfield Hills (3-2): Blackhawks interior is a concern but they have enough experience to overcome that and it’s showing right now.

6. Avondale (6-0): Schedule hasn’t been strong but Yellow Jackets have blown out everyone with their closest game being 15 points.

7. Troy (4-1): Kendal Zeiter is the real deal and to go along with that experience, the Colts could be dangerous this season even though schedule hasn’t been the strongest.

8. Oxford (2-2): Wildcats have not been consistent but are finding ways to win games.

9. Lake Orion (3-1): Dragons despite setback to Oxford is more than half way to their win total from last season.

10. Clarkston (0-5): Wolves despite record are getting better everyday.

11. Rochester (1-4): Falcons have the best shot at winning the Blue this season and have played a brutal non conference schedule.

12. North Farmington (1-6): Raiders have really missed Sam Cherney and the record shows it right now.

13. Adams (1-4): Highlanders have not been the same team since beating Waterford Mott. They need to fix this heading into the new year.

14. Troy Athens (1-3): Red Hawks have three solid players but haven’t been consistent this season.

15. Berkley (4-1): The non conference schedule is a concern and their only test thus far was a loss to Waterford Mott. The Bears have a lot of work to do if they want to contend in the Blue this season.

16. Farmington (1-4): Falcons battled against Troy but schedule will toughen up in January.

17. Groves (2-4): Falcons were in it with Stoney Creek for three quarters. Will need to keep improving in January.

18. Seaholm (2-2): Maples have beaten the non OAA teams but have lost to the OAA teams. That must change if Seaholm wants to go places.

19. Pontiac (3-4): Phoenix had a tough loss to Rochester, they are out of the division race for now.

20. Oak Park (3-2): Schedule hasn’t been impressive thus far for the Knights despite winning three games.

21. Ferndale (4-2): Despite winning four games the Eagles have a long way to go to be competitive.

22. Hazel Park (0-6): Seen them play wasn’t impressed. Could be a long season for the Vikings.

Boys

1. Pontiac (8-0): “The Yak” is back enough said.

2. Clarkston (6-2): Wolves Big Three gaining confidence as we speak.

3. West Bloomfield (3-4): Tough schedule will benefit the Lakers in the long run.

4. Lake Orion (6-1): Besides the hiccup against Clarkston the Dragons have been solid thus far.

5. Adams (5-2): Fully healthy the Highlanders are ready to roll.

6. Farmington (3-2): It has been an uneasy week for the Falcons. They will need to shore up some things heading into 2019.

7. Ferndale (2-3): Eagles starting to get their transfers into the system and when on along with the rest of the team watch out.

8. Oxford (6-0): Schedule has not been impressive despite being unbeaten. The schedule will toughen up for the Wildcats in January.

9. Southfield Arts and Tech (3-3): Warriors battled tough against Farmington and have a big win over Southfield Christian. They are the darkhorse team to watch as we go forward in the season.

10. Oak Park (4-1): The Knights are very talented which showed against Birmingham Detroit Country Day but losing to North Farmington didn’t help things.

11. North Farmington (5-2): The Raiders non conference schedule hasn’t been that impressive and they have lost three straight to Bloomfield Hills which is alarming despite beating Oak Park.

12. Troy (5-3): Brody Parker is the real deal for the Colts.

13. Groves (5-3): Falcons quietly going along with their business right now.

14. Avondale (1-5): The win over Stoney Creek should hopefully turn the Yellow Jackets season around.

15. Berkley (3-2): Bears are an odd team to figure out. They look good one week and then bad the next. Need to address consistency moving forward.

16. Stoney Creek (4-4): Cougars suffered two tough losses but will look to progress heading into the new year.

17. Bloomfield Hills (4-4): Blackhawks have big wins but some questionable losses as well. Something they need to address.

18. Royal Oak (3-3): Can’t figure out the Ravens lately. Been disappointed with the start, hope they can turn it around.

19. Troy Athens (2-5): The Red Hawks had lost three straight until beating Madison Heights Bishop Foley, should be interesting moving forward.

20. Rochester (1-6): The Falcons have struggled giving up points in the last two games. It has been a long season thus far for Rochester.

21. Harrison (3-3): Hawks slowly getting better in their final season as a school.

22. Seaholm (1-6): Been very disappointed with the Maples lately.

23. Hazel Park (1-6): Vikings are in complete rebuild mode as we speak.

Basketball Stocks Right Now.

Hello all and Merry Christmas to all, here are the teams I'm high, medium, and down on heading into the Holiday Break. Also this will be updated after the Motor City Roundball, Bloomfield Hills Showcase, and other holiday tournaments OAA teams are in during the holidays.

Anyway here they are.

Boys

STOCK HIGH

Oxford (6-0): The Wildcats picked up two wins this week beating Royal Oak 51-36 on Tuesday night and then beat Berkley 55-38 on Friday night. Oxford will be tested heading into the new year but right now things are looking good for the Wildcats going forward.

Pontiac (8-0): The Phoenix may be the favorite to win the Blue after sending a statement winning 72-67 in overtime over Ferndale on Tuesday night and then won 72-47 over Harrison on Friday night. The Phoenix are off until the new year but right now “The Yak” is back.

Clarkston (6-2): The Wolves picked up two wins this week winning 58-37 on Tuesday over Lake Orion and 66-50 over West Bloomfield last Friday night. Clarkston beat Farmington 75-62 on Friday night to get their win streak to six straight. The Wolves are in a good spot right now and gaining confidence throughout the process.

Adams (5-2): The Highlanders are fully healthy now and they have an early edge in the White race. Adams sent a statement by blowing out Farmington 58-38 on Tuesday night and then beat arch rival Rochester 59-37 on Thursday night. The Highlanders also beat Dearborn Divine Child 45-43 on Sunday afternoon. Adams is rolling right now as we speak.

STOCK MEDIUM

Southfield Arts and Tech (3-3): The Warriors had a split week which included a 65-47 victory over Rochester on Tuesday night but had a tough 90-85 overtime loss to Farmington on Friday night. Southfield Arts and Tech  would then suffer another tough loss 52-45 to Ann Arbor Huron on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors have some time to make some adjustments right now..

Farmington (3-2): The Falcons had a split week losing to Adams 58-38 on Tuesday night but picked up a big overtime win 90-85 on Southfield Arts and Tech to stay in the White race. Farmington had a bad third quarter against Clarkston which resulted in a 75-62 defeat. The Falcons are fine though moving forward.

Oak Park (4-1): The Knights picked up a split this week both at home, which included a big 89-83 victory over Birmingham Detroit Country Day on Wednesday night but suffered a tough 60-58 loss to North Farmington on Friday night. Oak Park doesn’t have any games during the holiday break but that could change as they are looking for two games so it’s possible they could play during the break.

West Bloomfield (3-4): The Lakers had a split this week beating Troy 65-52 on Tuesday night but lost 66-50 to Clarkston on Friday night. West Bloomfield suffered a tough 61-59 loss to Macomb Dakota on Saturday night. The Lakers should be fine moving forward.

Lake Orion (6-1): The Dragons had a split this week on the road losing 58-37 to Clarkston on Tuesday night but picked up a big 64-54 victory over Troy on Friday night. Lake Orion should benefit from the break heading into the new year. The Dragons are borderline high and medium.

Troy (5-3): The Colts had two tough losses this week but Brody Parker is the real deal for Troy. The Colts lost 65-52 to West Bloomfield on Tuesday night and then lost 64-54 to Lake Orion last Friday night. Troy lost 53-48 to Ann Arbor Huron on Friday afternoon. The Colts have some questions to address right now.

Groves (5-3): The Falcons had two big wins but one tough loss this week beating Avondale 61-54 on Tuesday night and then earning an overtime 60-53 win over Troy Athens but lost 68-58 to Warren Lincoln on Sunday night. Groves will be interesting to watch heading into the new year.

North Farmington (5-2): The Raiders had an odd split at home which included a 60-58 victory on Friday night over Oak Park but suffered a horrible 46-42 loss on Tuesday night to Bloomfield Hills and had a tough loss to Plymouth Canton 50-45 on Friday night. North Farmington is a hard team to figure out, there are games they play well and games that want to make your head scratch.

Ferndale (2-3): The Eagles earned a split which included a 51-36 victory on Thursday night over Seaholm but their division hopes took a hit on Tuesday night when they fell 72-67 to Pontiac in overtime. Ferndale lost a tough one to Chicago Orr 69-61 on Friday night on their home court but in the long term the Eagles are better off.

STOCK DOWN

Rochester (1-6): The Falcons had a tough week losing 59-37 to arch rival Adams on Thursday night and then losing 65-47 to Southfield Arts and Tech on Tuesday night. Rochester is going to need to turn things around heading into the new year, it could be a challenge for them going forward.

Stoney Creek (4-4): The Cougars had a split by beating Troy Athens 72-59 on Tuesday night but lost 41-37 to Avondale last Friday night and then lost 52-41 to Walled Lake Northern. Stoney Creek is an interesting team they haven’t been consistent all season which is something they need to turn around going forward.

Berkley (3-2): The Bears had a split which started on a high note with a convincing 48-24 win over Hazel Park but suffered a 55-38 loss to Oxford. The schedule gets tough for Berkley heading into the new year but right now stock seems to be down a bit.

Avondale (1-5): The Yellow Jackets had a split this week by losing 61-54 to Groves on Tuesday night but picked up a 41-37 victory over Stoney Creek on Friday night. Wonder if the win over Stoney Creek could turn things around for Avondale, it looks possible.

Bloomfield Hills (4-4): The Blackhawks had a split by pulling off a big 46-42 upset over North Farmington but took a tough 61-55 loss to Traverse City West up in Traverse City. Bloomfield Hills beat Detroit Northwestern 54-51 on Thursday afternoon to get their record back to 500 on the season. In three of the four losses the Blackhawks have been in those games but haven’t been able to close them out. It will be interesting to see what Bloomfield Hills has going forward.

Troy Athens (2-5): The Red Hawks had a tough week losing 72-59 to Stoney Creek on Tuesday night and then losing 60-53 in Friday to Groves. Troy Athens snapped a three game losing streak by beating Madison Heights Bishop Foley on Saturday afternoon. It will be interesting to see where the Red Hawks move forward.

Seaholm (1-6): The Maples had a rough week getting upset at home by Harrison 40-39 on Tuesday night and lost 51-36 on Thursday night to Seaholm. Seaholm is in a world of trouble right now but hopefully the new year will turn things around for the Maples.

Harrison (3-3): The Hawks had a split week pulling off a big upset over Seaholm 40-39 on Tuesday night but was given a dose of reality when they lost 72-47 to Pontiac on Friday night. Harrison is off until the new year.

Royal Oak (3-3): The Ravens got a split this week winning over Hazel Park on Thursday but losing 51-36 to Oxford on Tuesday night. Royal Oak is off until the new year but consistency has been an issue for the Ravens, something they need to fix moving forward.

Hazel Park (1-6): The Vikings had a rough week losing 48-24 to Berkley on Tuesday night and then had another loss on Thursday night to Royal Oak. Hazel Park has a split in the Cosmo Holiday Classic by losing to Detroit Collegiate Prep but knocked off Center Line 42-41 to get the team's first win post the Brendan Barrett era. They will hope that the momentum will continue moving forward for the Vikings.

Girls

STOCK HIGH

Southfield Arts and Tech (4-1): The Warriors have been rolling as of late winning 63-48 over Waterford Kettering on Tuesday night. Southfield Arts and Tech plays Chicago Phillips in the Motor City Roundball Classic this week. The Warriors are the team to beat right now.

Royal Oak (5-0): Royal Oak has been rolling. They beat Clarkston on the road 46-39 on Thursday night and won 57-43 over River Rouge on Friday afternoon at Bloomfield Hills. The Ravens do have some matchups they like in that game so it will be interesting to see if they can keep this start strong going forward.

Avondale (6-0): The Yellow Jackets have been blowing people out although the schedule hasn’t been the greatest. Avondale blew Hazel Park out 45-16 on Tuesday night and then beat Troy Athens 59-34 on Thursday night. The Yellow Jackets have a lot of confidence right now but they will be tested heading into the new year that is for sure.

Stoney Creek (4-1): “Team Finebaum” had an uneasy game with Groves on Thursday night which almost saw them being upset after an emotional win over Waterford Kettering. The Cougars shot an alarming 12 percent against the Falcons after three quarters but Stoney Creek pulled away in the fourth quarter which gave them a 54-39 victory. The Cougars should be fine going forward but that almost disastrous last week.

West Bloomfield (3-1): The Lakers picked up a big victory by blowing Adams out on the road 65-38 on Thursday night. West Bloomfield will play North Farmington at Bloomfield Hills this week. The Lakers are riding high with confidence which is always a good thing heading into the new year.

Troy (4-1): The Colts picked up a scrappy 52-39 win over Farmington to head into the new year with high expectations. Troy though hasn’t played that strong of a schedule which is a concern later into the year. The Colts have the talent to possibly make a deep run if things go right.

Bloomfield Hills (3-1): The Blackhawks picked up two big wins this week. Bloomfield Hills won 55-32 on Tuesday night over Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes at home and then earned a 40-28 road win over North Farmington on Thursday night. The Blackhawks play Royal Oak Shrine this week at home. Things are looking up heading into the new year for Bloomfield Hills.

STOCK MEDIUM

Berkley (4-1): The Bears picked up a blowout 68-26 win over Ferndale. Berkley right now seems to be rolling behind their experience but when the schedule gets tougher, I can’t seem to buy this team yet especially with the schedule moving forward.

Oxford (2-2): The Wildcats had a split this week losing 35-22 to Romeo on Tuesday night but won 42-27 over Lake Orion on Thursday night. Oxford will go into the new year with confidence but still questions remain for the Wildcats.

Lake Orion (3-1): The Dragons suffered their first loss on Thursday night to arch rival Oxford 42-27. Lake Orion has some questions to address but long term they should be fine but stock is at medium heading into the new year.

Clarkston (0-5): The Wolves had a tough week but they have been very competitive in their losses. Clarkston lost 52-45 to Warren Cousino on Monday night, 46-39 on Thursday night to Royal Oak, and 71-45 to Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy. The Wolves should be fine going forward in the long term, like Lake Orion have faith in them I do.

Rochester (1-4): The Falcons had a split this week losing 44-33 to Utica Ford on Tuesday night but went to Pontiac and beat the Phoenix 58-31 on Thursday night. Rochester should head into the new year with confidence despite having a losing record considering that the Blue is very winnable.

Pontiac (3-4): The Phoenix earned a split this week beating Warren Michigan Collegiate on Tuesday night but lost 58-31 to Rochester on Thursday night. Pontiac could still have a strong season but right now division race looks out of the question. The Phoenix did not look good against Jackson getting blown out 73-24 in the Motor City Roundball Classic but Pontiac has a lot of winnable games going forward.

Ferndale (4-2): The Eagles had a split last week by beating Ferndale University but lost 68-26 on Thursday night to Berkley. Ferndale has a lot of work to do heading into the new year if they want to stay competitive.

STOCK DOWN

North Farmington (1-6): The Raiders had a tough week losing 40-28 to Bloomfield Hills on Thursday night. North Farmington has two games this week with West Bloomfield at Bloomfield Hills to which they lost 66-43 and 49-36 to Macomb L'Anse Creuse North on Sunday night. It will be interesting to see what the Raiders have this week.

Adams (1-4): The Highlanders had a rough week losing to Utica 53-36 on Tuesday night and then losing 65-38 to West Bloomfield on Thursday night. Adams is a young team that is scrappy and works hard but the schedule will toughen up during the season. It could be gut check time for the Highlanders heading into the new year.

Farmington (1-4): The Falcons had a split this week by beating Milford 40-35 on Tuesday night but lost 52-39 to Troy on Thursday night. Farmington has some talent and work hard. It will be something for them to look forward to heading into the new year.

Troy Athens (1-3): The Red Hawks were competitive this week against Avondale on Thursday night but it wasn’t meant to be as they fell 59-34 in Auburn Hills. Troy Athens will head into the new year with some favorable matchups but they have some questions they will need to address.

Seaholm (2-2): The Maples are off for a couple of weeks so we will look and see what they have heading into the new year.

Oak Park (3-2): The Knights had a split last week by beating Hazel Park 45-40 on Thursday night but lost 51-31 to Detroit University Prep. Oak Park was blown out at the Motor City Roundball Classic by Port Huron 80-32. I'm concerned where the Knights confidence is at right now.

Groves (2-4): The Falcons had a tough week losing 66-25 to Walled Lake Western on Monday night and then almost pulling off an upset against Stoney Creek but fell short losing 52-39 to the Cougars. Groves did get their second win of the season as they won 45-39 over Pontiac Notre Dame Prep at Bloomfield Hills, this is a must win game for the Falcons for their confidence moving forward.

Hazel Park (0-6): The Vikings had a tough week losing 45-16 to Avondale on Tuesday night but showed some fight in a tough 45-40 loss to Oak Park. Hazel Park competed in the Sterling Heights Parkway Christian tournament this week losing on Thursday morning 50-29 to Allen Park Cabrini and by that same score to Sterling Heights Parkway Christian on Friday. This is a team that needs to fix some things and quick.

Talley Out at Pontiac.

The Pontiac Phoenix will have a new football coach next football season.

Charles Talley has stepped down coaching the Phoenix. Talley in his two seasons finished 2-16 including a 1-8 season this year.

Pontiac is 5-48 since 2012 which whomever takes over the team will need to address heading into next season.

Thoughts.

It wasn't going to be easy fixing the Phoenix. Pontiac has not been the same since Brad Zube left the program. Whomever the new coach is will have a tough job recruiting kids to play and the many disadvantages that face this football program with lack of numbers and many obstacles they face.

Herstein named new Varsity Football Coach at North Farmington.

There were a lot of changes that have happened at North Farmington and now they will have their third coach in five seasons.

The Raiders confirmed on Twitter that longtime Harrison assistant Jon Herstein has been named the new Varsity Football coach replacing Bob Chiesa.

Chiesa took over a North Farmington football program two seasons ago that went 0-9 and finished 5-13 in Chiesa's two seasons as coach.

It is unknown where Chiesa will coach at next season.

Herstein is a teacher in the Farmington School District and his ties to Harrison and legendary coach John Herrington. He was deemed the coach in waiting at Harrison but the school will be closing at the end of the school year.

Thoughts.

I wasn't surprised that Herstein would coach somewhere but didn't expect it would be at North Farmington. I really feel bad for Chiesa, he did not deserve to be forced out which it looks like this was. I hope Chiesa can get a Varsity coaching job soon, he certainly deserves that.

I think North Farmington will be better in the long hall under Herstein but it will never be like Harrison was under Herrington. It will be interesting to see how Herstein responds now that he is coaching the Raiders.

Basketball Stocks Right Now.

Here are my stocks up, middle, and down heading into the week from December 17th to December 23rd.

Boys

STOCK HIGH

Lake Orion (5-0): The Dragons whom are injury riddled right now picked up a 56-37 victory over Romeo last Tuesday night at home. This week Lake Orion will be tested as they have road games against Clarkston and Troy respectively to open up league play.

Oxford (4-0): The Wildcats picked up a big win over Waterford Kettering 52-47 last Tuesday night. Now they will hit the road for a showdown with Royal Oak in league play looming.

Pontiac (6-0): The Phoenix rolled to three straight wins including a 61-53 victory over Mount Clemens. Pontiac added two more wins in the week also beating Pontiac Academy of Excellence 71-16 and Detroit Hope of Academy 80-43. The Phoenix will be tested on Tuesday against Ferndale before closing out December with Harrison. Pontiac is in a good spot.

West Bloomfield (2-2): The Lakers bounced back in a big way by beating Warren De LaSalle 80-66 at home on Friday night. West Bloomfield has two big tests waiting them with Clarkston and Troy looming this week. It will be interesting to say the least surrounding the Lakers.

Farmington (2-0): The Falcons had a week off and this week they should be fully rested when they go to Adams and play host to Southfield Arts and Tech. Farmington should be good to go to make a deep run in the White.

Oak Park (3-0): The Knights have been trending water lately but have managed to win the close ones including a 69-62 victory over Detroit University Prep on Friday night. Oak Park will host Birmingham Detroit Country Day on Wednesday and then North Farmington on Friday. The Knights should be fine going forward.

Clarkston (3-2): The Wolves picked up two emotional wins last week by blowing out Lakeland 64-40 and then on a night where they honored coach Dan Fife by naming the Gym after him they beat Wayne Memorial 60-46 on Friday. Clarkston should be tested this week when they have Lake Orion and West Bloomfield this week. For now buy in on the Wolves.

STOCK MEDIUM

Southfield Arts and Tech (2-1): What happened to the Warriors last week losing 64-40 to River Rouge. I don’t know what it is with River Rouge not only beating Southfield Arts and Tech in Boys Basketball but also in football as well. The Warriors have to play Rochester and Farmington this week so they need to get it turned around and soon.

Adams (0-2): The Highlanders are getting some key players back and the wins have started to come. Adams picked up a 61-48 win at Utica last Tuesday night and then won on a buzzer beater 49-47 over Livonia Stevenson. The Highlanders are really close but they aren’t there quite yet. Adams has Farmington and Rochester this week so right now things are looking up for now.

Stoney Creek (2-2): The Cougars had a big 73-56 road win over Hackett Catholic Central on Saturday afternoon. Stoney Creek will play Troy Athens and Avondale this week but right now there are some questions that linger for the Cougars heading into league play.

Troy (5-0): The Colts are still undefeated and they just came off two wins over Utica Ford 56-30 last Tuesday night and 65-49 over arch rival Troy Athens on Friday night. The non conference schedule is the reason I’m not buying this team right now but if they get two wins over West Bloomfield and Lake Orion then it’s time to take Troy seriously.

Groves (3-2): The Falcons had a split this week losing 68-53 to Ferndale last Tuesday night but earned a hard fought 62-53 win over arch rival Seaholm. Groves will have Avondale, Troy Athens, and Warren Lincoln this week. This is a big week for the Falcons to make some noise.

Berkley (2-1): The Bears had a week off and should be fresh and ready to go when they play Hazel Park and Oxford this week. Berkley we will know a lot about especially on Friday is a mystery team to figure out thus far.

North Farmington (4-0): The Raiders picked up two big wins including a 65-29 blowout last Tuesday night over Detroit Cornerstone but they picked up a 52-44 victory on Friday night over Warren Michigan Collegiate. The non conference schedule bothers me when it comes to North Farmington especially playing Oak Park on Friday could be where they have a dose of reality.

Ferndale (1-1): The Eagles earned a 68-53 home win over Groves last Tuesday night. This week Ferndale has Pontiac and Seaholm. The Eagles have been dealing with transfer issues as they should have their full lineup by the second half of the semester, be patient with Ferndale right now.

STOCK DOWN

Rochester (1-4): The Falcons had a split by beating Bloomfield Hills 45-43 on Friday night and losing 56-33 to Seaholm on Tuesday night. Rochester hadn’t scored over 40 points until the Bloomfield Hills game which they won by two. The Falcons have a tough road awaiting them this week at Southfield Arts and Tech and Adams looming.

Avondale (0-4): The Yellow Jackets lost 56-52 to Waterford Mott last Tuesday night. Avondale has to play Groves and Stoney Creek this week. This is a team that needs a win in the worst way but right now it’s about getting some confidence for the Yellow Jackets right now.

Bloomfield Hills (2-3): The Blackhawks had a rough week losing two close games including a buzzer beating 42-41 defeat to Novi last Tuesday night and then falling 45-43 to Rochester on Friday night. Bloomfield Hills has North Farmington and Traverse City West this week both on the road. They will need to regroup this week in a bad way.

Troy Athens (1-3): The Red Hawks had a tough loss losing 65-49 to arch rival Troy on Friday night. Troy Athens will have two games this week against Stoney Creek and Groves. The Red Hawks hope league play will turn their fortunes around this week.

Seaholm (1-4): The Maples had a split week beating Rochester 56-33 last Tuesday night but lost 62-53 to arch rival Groves on Friday night. Seaholm has Harrison and Ferndale looming this week. The Maples will need to put this loss behind them and focus on with what the task is in hand.

Harrison (2-2): The Hawks had an off week but they should be well rested heading into their two games against Seaholm and Pontiac. Harrison needs to get off to a strong start this week if not then they are in trouble.

Royal Oak (2-2): The Ravens got a split winning 50-44 over Clawson last Tuesday but lost 56-33 to Royal Oak Shrine on Friday night. The loss to Shrine was a head scratcher for me believing the direction where the program was heading but right now I can’t buy this team right now. Royal Oak has to play Oxford and Hazel Park this week to turn their season around.

Hazel Park (0-2): The Vikings lost 56-45 to Ferndale University on Friday night. Hazel Park though played better than they did against Warren Fitzgerald a few weeks ago. The Vikings have Berkley and Royal Oak this week which will be interesting games.

Girls

STOCK HIGH

Southfield Arts and Tech (3-1): The Warriors had two big wins this week beating River Rouge 67-51 last Tuesday night and then getting a big 66-55 victory over Flint Carman Ainsworth on Saturday at Detroit Edison. Southfield Arts and Tech has a home game with Waterford Kettering on Tuesday which could very well set them up for a special season.

Royal Oak (4-0): The Ravens had two big wins including surviving 48-40 against Royal Oak Shrine on Friday night and picking up a 40-16 blowout last Tuesday night over Novi. Royal Oak has Clarkston this week so it could be a statement matchup for the Ravens and company.

Avondale (4-0): The Yellow Jackets are blowing people out although the schedule hasn’t been the greatest. Avondale though survived Pontiac Notre Dame Prep 49-34 but blew out Cranbrook 59-16 on Friday night. The Yellow Jackets have Hazel Park this week before they head into the Holiday Break. Things are looking up for Avondale moving forward.

Stoney Creek (3-1): “Team Finebaum” is back into full effect. The Cougars beat a very good Waterford Kettering team 62-57 on Friday night and may have one of the best guards in the game in Lily DiPani. Stoney Creek also got a 70-53 win over St. Clair Shores Lakeview last Tuesday night. “Team Finebaum” has Groves this week before going on Christmas Break. The Cougars stock is rising by the second.

Oxford (1-1): The Wildcats didn’t have a game this week but they should be tested this week against Romeo and Lake Orion. Oxford has played well lately which is why people should still buy into the Wildcats but this week we will know a lot about Oxford and see where they are at moving forward.

West Bloomfield (2-1): The Lakers had a split last week losing last Tuesday night to a solid Walled Lake Western team 76-49 but they blew out Walled Lake Northern behind a strong performance from Mya Bobo on Saturday afternoon 62-39. With Destiny Monroe out for the season, Bobo has to carry the load for West Bloomfield. The Lakers will be as good a Bobo takes them and right now it’s time to buy in. West Bloomfield has Adams looming this week.

Troy (3-1): The Colts have an underrated starting five which is good for the long term. Troy got a big game from lefty Kendall Zeiter against Seaholm in route to a 55-31 blowout on Thursday night. The Colts also beat Utica Ford 55-46 last Tuesday night as well. Troy has Farmington this week before heading into the Holiday break, it’s time to go all in on the Colts.

Lake Orion (3-0): The Dragons picked up two big wins last week beating Midland 46-43 last Tuesday night and beating Groves 48-22 on Friday night. Lake Orion is still far from a finished product as they still have some work to do. The Dragons play Oxford at home this week so it will be interesting to see where they are at going forward but things are moving up.

STOCK MEDIUM

Berkley (3-1): The Bears had a split this week losing 41-36 to Waterford Mott last Tuesday night but needed to survive to beat Madison Heights Bishop Foley 28-20 on Friday night. Berkley has Ferndale this week before going on Holiday break. It will be interesting to see what the Bears have heading into 2019.

Clarkston (0-2): The Wolves did not look good on Saturday night against Walled Lake Western losing 50-35. Clarkston is very young but there are some promising players that could make an impact in the future but right now they are taking their lumps and playing a tough non conference schedule doesn’t help things either. The Wolves have Royal Oak this week so it will be another tough challenge looming for Clarkston but be patient with this group they will be fine long term.

Bloomfield Hills (1-1): The Blackhawks had a split this week losing a tough one on Friday night in overtime 50-45 to Walled Lake Central but won 46-39 over Adams last Tuesday night. Bloomfield Hills has Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes and North Farmington looming. It’s not time to panic for the Blackhawks they are fine.

Pontiac (3-1): The Phoenix had a split this week beating Chandler Park 53-26 last Tuesday night but lost to Pontiac Notre Dame Prep 55-37 on Friday night. Pontiac has some questions that they need to answer going forward. The Phoenix have two games this week as they have Warren Michigan Collegiate and Rochester. It will be interesting to see where Pontiac is at after this week.

Adams (1-2): The Highlanders had a split this week losing 46-39 to Bloomfield Hills last Tuesday night but they did pick up a huge 55-52 victory over Waterford Mott on Saturday night. Adams is a young team that has players with superstar potential in the works. The Highlanders have an interesting week on tap with Utica and West Bloomfield before they go on Christmas break. The win over Waterford Mott has given Adams some confidence right now.

Oak Park (2-0): The Knights picked up two wins over Detroit Communication of Media Arts and Harper Woods. Oak Park will continue and try to keep their undefeated season alive with Detroit University Prep and Hazel Park this week. Things look to be moving up for the Knights.

Ferndale (2-1): The Eagles beat Melvindale last Thursday night giving themselves a chance for a strong finish to 2018. Ferndale plays Ferndale University and Berkley this week. The Eagles right now are on the right track and looks like there are two winnable games on the horizon.

STOCK DOWN

North Farmington (1-3): The Raiders had a split week losing on Friday night 61-49 to South Lyon East but beat Detroit Cornerstone 61-17 last Tuesday night. North Farmington plays Bloomfield Hills this week which would be very interesting moving forward.

Farmington (0-3): The Falcons had an eight point lead only to blow it against South Lyon losing 45-44 on Saturday afternoon. Farmington has Milford and Troy this week and both those games could be troublesome games looming this week. Danger is looming for the Falcons.

Troy Athens (1-2): The Red Hawks got a split this week by beating Milford 45-35 on Friday night but lost 52-40 to Groves last Tuesday night. Troy Athens has Adams and Rochester looming this week in hoping to right the ship.

Seaholm (2-2): The Maples got a split in beating Clawson 53-22 last Tuesday night but they were blown out by Troy 55-31 on Thursday night. Seaholm is now off until 2019 but they have a ton of questions to answer that need to be addressed.

Groves (1-2): The Falcons got a split in beating Troy Athens 52-40 last Tuesday night but was blown out 48-22 by Lake Orion on Friday night. Groves has a very tough schedule looming with Walled Lake Western and Stoney Creek looming. Dark times are ahead for the Falcons.

Rochester (0-3): The Falcons did not have a good experience on Friday night against Birmingham Marian getting blown out 61-26 by the Mustangs. Rochester has Utica Ford and Pontiac this week. I do worry about this team moving forward considering this week that both opponents are tough matchups for the Falcons but if they win these two games then it will create some optimism heading into the Holiday break.

Hazel Park (0-2): The Vikings have a young team and has a solid guard along with two solid bigs but I was discouraged by the body language that of some of their players especially on Saturday morning when they lost 55-27 to Lakeland and they lost 36-27 to Eastpointe. Hazel Park has some talent but body language concerns me moving forward with this team. The Vikings have Avondale and Oak Park this week. It could be an interesting week to say the least.

Here are the teams that their stock is high, medium, or low after the week from December 3rd until December 9th.

Boys

STOCK HIGH

Lake Orion (4-0): The Dragons beat Troy Athens 77-48 and then got a huge win by beating a very good Lapeer team 60-48 on Friday night. Lake Orion plays Romeo this week but the Dragons right now are looking upwards and heading in the right direction thus far.

Oxford (3-0): The Wildcats are riding high after getting their third home win by beating Adams 49-40. This week Oxford gets an undefeated Kettering team whom they could very well see in the postseason. The Wildcats right now are heading in the right direction thus far.

Pontiac (3-0): It’s time to buy in on the Phoenix after beating Clarkston 63-58 and then Clawson 73-47 on Friday night. The schedule is pretty busy and winnable for Pontiac starting with Mount Clemens, then Pontiac Academy of Excellence, and Detroit Leadership Academy. If the Phoenix go to 6-0 then they will be a team that should be taken seriously in the Blue conversation going forward.

West Bloomfield (1-2): The Lakers had a tough week last week but they will be better in the long run. West Bloomfield lost 74-50 to Detroit Cass Tech and 75-62 to River Rouge on Friday night. This week they host Warren De LaSalle in another tough matchup. These non conference games should help the Lakers going into the future but this is a pretty tough spot that West Bloomfield is going through but the stock is high on this team.

Farmington (2-0): Could the Falcons be the best team in Farmington this year??? it looks possible after the Falcons beat Harrison 79-61 on Friday night. Farmington has a week off before getting ready to play Adams. Things right now are looking upward right now for the Falcons going forward.

Southfield Arts and Tech (2-0): It’s time to buy in on the Warriors, Southfield Arts and Tech beat Trillium Academy 68-28 last week prior to beating Southfield Christian 81-77. The Warriors will be tested this week when they host River Rouge. It will be a great test to see where Southfield Arts and Tech is at after getting some rest.

Oak Park (1-1): The Knights nearly lost 33-19 halftime lead against Chicago Corliss on Saturday night at home but they survived 61-59 in that game. Oak Park will have Detroit University Prep this week. It will be interesting to see the Knights have after nearly escaping in that game but there is plenty of upside going forward with this team.

STOCK MEDIUM

Clarkston (1-2): The Wolves got a split last week losing to Pontiac 63-58 but beat Orchard Lake St. Marys 62-46 on Friday night. Clarkston has Lakeland and Wayne Memorial this week. The question will be is that can they sustain it after winning Friday night. It will be interesting to see where the Wolves are at going forward in the season.

Adams (0-2): The Highlanders are still feeling the injury bug after losing 49-40 to Oxford last week but the upside is still high for Adams when they get their full team back and healthy. The Highlanders play Utica and Livonia Stevenson this week, both tough but winnable games for Adams. When healthy the Highlanders will be scary to watch, better get them early, they will be tough out later in the season.

Stoney Creek (1-2): The Cougars had a split last week beating Seaholm 58-48 but lost to a good Warren De LaSalle team 70-57 on Friday night. Stoney Creek has a road game at Hackett Catholic Central this week so it will be interesting to see if the Cougars can get to 500 or not.

Troy (3-0): The Colts are still undefeated and they just came off a good 50-43 win over Groves but the schedule still hasn’t been that impressive to me at all. Troy has Utica Ford and Troy Athens this week, both are winnable games but going forward it could be tough sledding for the Colts which has me concerned with this team.

Groves (2-1): The Falcons had a split last week losing 50-43 to Troy but beating Berkley 53-39 on Friday night. Groves will have arch rival Seaholm looming and a tough one with Ferndale this week. We’ll know a lot about the Falcons chances even though the jury is still out on Groves by the end of the week.

Royal Oak (1-1): The Ravens got a split last week losing on a buzzer beater to Waterford Kettering 63-60 but bounced back blowing out Rochester Lutheran Hills Northwest 62-33. Royal Oak has two games this week with Clawson and Royal Oak Shrine, both are winnable games. I wouldn’t panic on the Ravens right now but they still have more questions than answers.

Berkley (2-1): The Bears suffered their first defeat to Groves 53-39 on Friday night and now they will have a week off before getting ready for Hazel Park. Berkley is a team that is of deep mystery but right now they are in an interesting spot going forward.

North Farmington (2-0): The Raiders are 2-0 but the non conference schedule has not been impressive after blowing out Wyandotte 63-32 and Detroit West Side 80-33 the schedule should toughen up a bit with games against Detroit Cornerstone and Warren Collegiate, both are tough but winnable games for North Farmington moving forward.

Ferndale (0-1): The Eagles didn’t play this week after losing 78-55 to Flint Beecher last week but they should be well rested this week with Groves on the docket this week. It will be interesting to see what Ferndale has after getting nearly a week off of action.

STOCK DOWN

Rochester (0-3): The Falcons had a tough week losing 41-34 to Fraser. Rochester has Seaholm and Bloomfield Hills this week, both of them are winnable games but the problem is that they can’t score. They have not gotten over 40 points once this season which is a major problem. The Falcons need to get over 40 points if they stand a chance. Rochester right now is a team that has major concerns moving forward.

Avondale (0-3): The Yellow Jackets had a tough week losing 48-35 to Bloomfield Hills and the schedule doesn’t get any easier with Waterford Mott coming to Auburn Hills but remember it was the Corsairs that Avondale beat last season that got their season turned around so there is some hope that it could very well happen again.

Bloomfield Hills (2-1): The Blackhawks had a split week, winning 48-35 over Avondale but losing 48-33 to Dearborn Divine Child on Friday night. Bloomfield Hills has two winnable road games this week with Novi and Rochester. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Blackhawks moving forward.

Troy Athens (1-2): The Red Hawks had a split last week losing 77-48 to Lake Orion but they beat Mount Clemens 55-50 on Friday night. Troy Athens has their arch rival Troy on Friday night which will make things interesting but right now I have a lot of concerns with this team going forward.

Seaholm (0-3): The Maples had a tough week losing 81-58 to Grosse Pointe South but the schedule gets tricky with home games this week against arch rival Groves and Rochester. Seaholm needs to win at least one of these games to feel better about themselves moving forward.

Harrison (2-2): The Hawks had a decent week, picking up two wins over Detroit Leadership Academy 68-54 and Hope of Detroit Academy 71-27 but lost to Farmington 79-61 on Friday night. Harrison is off this week with their next game being played next Tuesday against Seaholm.

Hazel Park (0-1): The Vikings took a week off of action after losing 63-33 to Warren Fitzgerald. Hazel Park will be on the road again when they go to Ferndale University as they continue their season moving forward. It will be interesting to see how the Vikings do this time around.

Girls

STOCK HIGH

Southfield Arts and Tech (1-1): The Warriors split last week winning 47-41 over a very good Ann Arbor Huron team but they fought back on Saturday night against the defending State Champs in Saginaw Heritage only losing 45-43. The schedule gets tougher this week when they have River Rouge and Flint Carman Ainsworth so it will be interesting to see how Southfield Arts and Tech responds this week.

Royal Oak (2-0): The Ravens had a great week blowing out Walled Lake Northern 66-25 and Farmington 48-28 and the blowouts should continue with Royal Oak Shrine and Novi on the schedule for Royal Oak. Things are looking upward right now in the Ravens nest.

Avondale (2-0): The Yellow Jackets are blowing people out although the schedule hasn’t been the greatest. Avondale blew out Rochester 57-33 and Rochester Lutheran Northwest 44-15. The Yellow Jackets have Notre Dame Prep and Cranbrook on the docket this week, both games look winnable. Things are heading in the right direction for Avondale.

Stoney Creek (1-1): The Cougars split this week losing to a very good Chandler Park Academy team 77-48 but they bounced back by beating Adams 67-54 on Friday night. “Team Finebaum” has a tough week awaiting them as they have St. Clair Shores Lakeview and Waterford Kettering awaiting them at home. It’s time to buy in with what Stoney Creek is doing.

Oxford (1-1): The Wildcats split this week losing 39-24 to Walled Lake Central but they beat Groves 43-33 on Friday night. Oxford does not have a game this week so they will be enjoying their week off and won’t play until next Tuesday when they host Romeo but it’s time for people to pay attention to the Wildcats.

Clarkston (0-1): The Wolves battled and competed hard against a very good Ypsilanti Arbor Prep squad losing 60-52 on Thursday night but there were some positives which should make people buy in to Clarkston. The Wolves have a tough week ahead of them with a trip to Detroit Renaissance and then at Walled Lake Northern to play Walled Lake Western. This is a brutal stretch for Clarkston but like Adams they need to trust the process moving forward.

Lake Orion (1-0): The Dragons looked solid in their 48-25 win over Seaholm on Thursday night but there is still a lot of work to do. The schedule is manageable this week with Midland and Groves on the docket. Both are winnable games but Lake Orion right now is heading in the right direction.

STOCK MEDIUM

Berkley (2-0): The Bears are off to a good start with a 35-33 win over Royal Oak Shrine and a 57-30 win over Warren Mott both on the road but we will know a lot about Berkley this week when they have Waterford Mott and Madison Heights Bishop Foley. If the Bears can win these two games this week, then it’s time to buy in on Berkley.

Bloomfield Hills (0-0): The Blackhawks haven’t played a game yet but they will be tested this week against Adams and Walled Lake Central. It will be interesting matchups to see what Bloomfield Hills has especially in the interior but we’ll get an idea what they have moving forward by the end of the week.

West Bloomfield (1-0): The Lakers got off to a good start getting a 46-21 victory at Lakeland on Friday night but they will be tested for sure this week with three games including Walled Lake Western, River Rouge, and Walled Lake Northern. We’ll know a lot about West Bloomfield by Saturday evening that is for sure.

Troy Athens (0-1): The Red Hawks were blown out 69-39 by Farmington Hills Mercy on Thursday night but Troy Athens has a chance to get back on the right track with games at Groves and then Milford at Stoney Creek. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Red Hawks moving forward.

Troy (1-1): The Colts are a mystery team losing to Waterford Mott 36-25 and beating Sterling Heights Stevenson 39-26 on Friday night. Troy has Utica Ford and Seaholm this week, both of them are winnable games which should get them on the right track going forward.

Pontiac (2-0): The Phoenix picked up two wins beating Mount Clemens 45-28 but had to survive in overtime against Mount Morris winning 53-52 after blowing a 20 point halftime lead to force the extra session. Pontiac will be tested this week against Chandler Park Academy at home and then they have to go to Notre Dame Prep. It might be a tough week for the Phoenix but it looks like they are heading in the right direction.

Adams (0-1): The Highlanders had a tough loss to Stoney Creek on Friday night 67-54. Adams though seems to be “Trusting the Process” as they had some bright moments in their game on the road. The Highlanders will be tested this week with road trips to Bloomfield Hills and a Saturday matchup at Walled Lake Northern against Waterford Mott. It will be interesting to say the least for Adams.

Oak Park (0-0): Jury is still out on the Knights as they haven’t played a game yet but there are two games this week for Oak Park as they have Harper Woods and Detroit Communication and Media Arts this week. These two games are winnable so it will be interesting to see what the Knights have this week.

Hazel Park (0-0): Jury is still out on the Vikings as they haven’t played a game yet but there are two winnable games on the plate this week for Hazel Park with road games at Eastpointe and Saturday at Walled Lake Northern against Lakeland. A perfect opportunity to go 2-0 this week awaits.

Ferndale (1-1): The Eagles split last week falling 51-44 to Advanced Tech but winning 46-22 over Madison. Ferndale the jury is still out on this team because of the schedule. The Eagles do play Melvindale this week but right now it looks like for them that things are going in the right direction.

STOCK DOWN

North Farmington (0-2): It was a rough week for the Raiders but North Farmington fought back against Waterford Kettering losing 56-44 in Waterford but lost to Walled Lake Northern 47-30 at home on Friday night. The Raiders have me very concerned moving forward. This week they have home games with Detroit Cornerstone and South Lyon East, North Farmington needs to win at least one of these games to get themselves on the right track.

Farmington (0-2): The Falcons had a rough week losing in overtime 46-43 to Seaholm and then was blown out 48-28 by Royal Oak. Saturday is a must win game for Farmington at Walled Lake Northern against South Lyon for them to get any positive momentum moving forward.

Seaholm (1-1): The Maples got a split last week with a 46-43 overtime escape against Farmington after being down 21-7 but they were blown out by Lake Orion 48-25 on Thursday night. Seaholm has a ton of questions that needs to be addressed. They have two more games before they go on Christmas Break with road games at Clawson and Troy looming.

Groves (0-1): The Falcons suffered a tough 43-33 loss at Oxford on Friday night but the schedule gets interesting as Groves has Troy Athens and Lake Orion coming to Beverly Hills this week. The Falcons need to find some momentum moving forward especially playing in the Red.

Rochester (0-2): The Falcons lost two games last week to Avondale 57-33 and Waterford Mott 43-30 now both are good teams and the schedule doesn’t get any easier this week with Birmingham Marian coming to town this week.

Here are the direction and progress where teams are heading either their stocks are up, middle, or down after the first week of the season.

STOCK HIGH:

Southfield Arts and Tech (1-0): The Warriors under first year coach Darryelle Buchannan went into a tough hostile environment and won at Southfield Christian 81-77 on Thursday night. Cameron McEvans was the story scoring 34 points for Southfield Arts and Tech. The Warriors have a tough non conference schedule in December ahead of them with a league game against Farmington and games against Kalamazoo Central, Ann Arbor Huron, and River Rouge. Things are trending up for Southfield Arts and Tech.

Oxford (2-0): The Wildcats could be the team to beat in the Blue especially with two wins over Walled Lake Central 57-40 and a four point win over a very solid Avondale team 48-44. The schedule will get interesting and we’ll know a lot about coach Steve Laidlaw’s team when they have Adams, Waterford Kettering, and league matchups with Berkley and Royal Oak on the horizon. Oxford is trending up right now.

Lake Orion (2-0): The Dragons are off to a good start with two road wins at Avondale 71-44 and Adams 51-41 but Lake Orion is far from a finished product as there is always room for improvement for coach Jim Manzo’s team. The Dragons schedule in December features Romeo and tough league games against Clarkston and Troy. Lake Orion could be a scary team that no one wants to see on the schedule.

Adams (0-1): The Highlanders are depleted with injuries to three key players but some of injured are expected to be back next week. Adams lost 51-41 to Lake Orion on Friday night but things will soon be looking up for coach Brad Crighton’s team. The schedule in December is interesting with league games against Farmington and Rochester along with games against Dearborn Divine Child, Utica, Oxford, and Livonia Stevenson. It will be interesting to see where Adams is at but they will be trending upward when healthy.

Farmington (1-0): The Falcons are trending upward right now with an impressive 88-73 win on Friday night at North Farmington over Waterford Mott. Farmington has a nice blend of youth and experience which is always a plus. Also coach Terrance Porter has a solid big that he can go too to aid his big three stars at the guards. The schedule in December isn’t as vaunted as most people think despite league games against Adams and Southfield Arts and Tech loom large along with a non league game at Clarkston. Things should be looking up for the Falcons.

West Bloomfield (1-0): The Lakers got a big victory at Warren Woods Tower 71-60 on Saturday afternoon but the month of December is absolutely brutal for coach Jeremy Dehna and his team starting with non league games against Warren De LaSalle, Detroit Cass Tech, River Rouge, and Macomb Dakota and league games against Troy and Clarkston. That’s going to be tough sledding for West Bloomfield. The Lakers will be fine going forward heading into the New Year.

Oak Park (0-1): The Knights suffered a tough 74-59 loss to Detroit Edison on Saturday afternoon but there is a lot of positives to look at for coach Bobby Thompson and his team. Malik Carr went over 20 points in the game which is huge. Oak Park has a tough non conference December schedule with games against Corliss Illinois, Detroit University Prep, and Birmingham Detroit Country Day. They will have a league game against North Farmington to close out the month. Things are looking up for the Knights even though they are 0-1 right now.

STOCK MEDIUM:

Troy (2-0): The Colts record has been impressive but the competition they have played hasn’t been that impressive with blowout victories over Rochester 64-30 and Seaholm 58-45. Troy should be tested in December with league games against Lake Orion and Clarkston along with non league matchups against Groves, Ann Arbor Huron, and Troy Athens. It will be interesting to see where coach Gary Fralick’s team will be at heading into the new year.

Stoney Creek (1-1): The Cougars split their first two games with two Macomb County teams at home. Stoney Creek blew Utica Ford out 68-45 on Tuesday but lost 53-47 to Chippewa Valley on Friday night. The schedule for coach Steve Norgrove’s team is manageable with tough games against Warren De LaSalle, Walled Lake Northern, and Hackett Catholic Central along with league games against Troy Athens and Avondale. It will be interesting to see where the Cougars are at the end of December.

Groves (1-0): The Falcons looked impressive winning 64-46 over Redford Thurston on Friday night in Beverly Hills but we will know a lot about coach Benny White’s team in the month of December when they play Troy, Warren Lincoln, Berkley, Ferndale, Seaholm and league games against Troy Athens and Avondale. Groves could be a team on the way up but there are some good teams that they need to beat going forward.

Bloomfield Hills (1-0): The Blackhawks needed a home escape against Grosse Pointe South winning 55-54 on Friday night but the jury is still out on Bloomfield Hills. The non conference schedule in December isn’t as impressive to as people think even though they have Avondale and league game against North Farmington looming. The game against Traverse City West will be interesting but right now to me the jury is still out if people should be buying in on coach Phil Kurajian’s team or not.

North Farmington (1-0): The Raiders had a blowout 80-33 win over Detroit Westside on Saturday night but we will know a lot about North Farmington in the month of December especially early. The Raiders will have league games against Bloomfield Hills and Oak Park but they have to play Detroit Cornerstone, Detroit Cass Tech, Wyandotte Roosevelt, and Warren Colligate. It will be interesting to see where North Farmington is at and where coach Todd Negoshian has his team going forward.

Pontiac (1-0): The Phoenix came off a 68-53 victory on Friday night over Advanced Tech but questions still loom for coach Josh Schroeder and his team. Pontiac’s schedule will toughen up with games against Clarkston, Clawson, and Mount Clemens. They also have league games against Ferndale and Harrison but the stretch of December 4^th through the 10^th could tell the Phoenix’s whole season if they are for real or not.

Avondale (0-2): The Yellow Jackets have came off a tough week losing to Lake Orion 71-44 at home and a tough 48-44 defeat to Oxford. Avondale should be fine moving forward after playing two solid teams. The rest of December is interesting for coach Tim Morton and his team as they still have league games against Stoney Creek and Groves but non league matchups with Bloomfield Hills and Waterford Mott looms huge as well. The Yellow Jackets are in an interesting spot but this is a team that can break out of their slump really quickly.

Berkley (2-0): The Bears had two convincing wins last week over Detroit Central 46-32 on Friday night and Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest when they won 74-32 on Tuesday night but the non conference schedule does get tough for coach Joe Sermo and his team starting with Groves on Tuesday night before going to league play with games against Oxford and Hazel Park. If Berkley wins over Groves on Tuesday night then maybe the Bears could be a darkhorse to watch in the Blue.

Royal Oak (0-0): Can’t really judge the Ravens, they haven’t played yet but I like this team going forward. There are tough games that loom for coach Aaron Smith’s team in December with Waterford Kettering and a league game against Oxford but the rest of the schedule is manageable. If Royal Oak can beat the Captains and get off to a solid start then a special season could loom for the Ravens.

STOCK DOWN:

Ferndale (0-1): The Eagles and coach Juan Rickman had so much hype surrounding this team but they were blown out 78-55 on Saturday night by Flint Beecher at Detroit Edison. Ferndale has Seaholm and Pontiac with their league matchup in December but they have to play Groves and Chicago Orr which are tough matchups for the Eagles. Ferndale is an interesting team to keep an eye on for sure but right now their stock is down.

Clarkston (0-1): The Wolves had a shocking setback against Sterling Heights Stevenson being upset 59-53 by the Titans on Friday night. Clarkston still has a tough December slate which includes league games against Lake Orion and West Bloomfield but they still have non league matchups against Orchard Lake St. Marys, Lakeland, Pontiac, Wayne Memorial, and Farmington. If the Wolves win out in this December slate then it would be much easier for coach Tim Waslik and his team but right now looks like trouble is looming for Clarkston.

Troy Athens (0-1): The Red Hawks suffered a tough 59-40 loss to Utica Eisenhower on Friday night. Troy Athens is young but coach Dave Scott knows his schedule in December is brutal with non league games against Lake Orion, Mt Clemens, Troy, and Madison Heights Bishop Foley and league games against Stoney Creek and Groves. There are some growing pains for the Red Hawks but right now the stock is down for Troy Athens.

Rochester (0-2): The Falcons we knew were going to go through some scoring pains with the departures of LaMarko Gulledge and Hunter Schalater but losing 56-38 to Warren Mott on Tuesday night and 64-30 to Troy on Friday night does not feel really good. Rochester in the month of December has league games against Adams and Southfield Arts and Tech along with manageable games against Bloomfield Hills, Seaholm, and Fraser so it will be interesting moving forward for coach Vance Kirkwood and his team.

Seaholm (0-1): The Maples did not look on Tuesday night losing 58-45 to Troy. Seaholm is young for coach Greg DeGeyter but the schedule gets tricky for the Maples in December which includes non league games against Stoney Creek, Grosse Pointe South, Rochester, and Groves along with league games against Harrison and Ferndale. It will be a tricky going forward to see where they go in the Blue.

Harrison (0-1): The Hawks did not look good on Friday night against Waterford Kettering losing 75-61 at home. Harrison has three games this week which includes games against Detroit Leadership Academy and Hope of Detroit Academy along with Farmington. Coach Jarrell Hogan’s schedule is manageable in December besides this week’s three games they have Seaholm and Pontiac as their league matchups. It will be interesting to see where the Hawks go this season.

Hazel Park (0-1): The Vikings stock took a disappointing hit as they were blown out in by their Battle of Nine Mile arch rivals Warren Fitzgerald 63-33 on Friday night in Warren. Hazel Park is a young team for coach Stefan Wilson but not being competitive in their final season in the OAA doesn’t look good. It’s going to be a long season for the Vikings especially with the schedule even though manageable looms in December with games against Ferndale University, whom they place twice and either Center Line or Hamtramck, all teams in their district along with league games against Berkley and Royal Oak in the month of December.
